The role

The successful SQL Server DBA for Kin + Carta will be responsible for ensuring our Enterprise client’s critical SQL Server databases are properly protected and recoverable in the event of a disaster. The role will require extensive knowledge of SQL Server database administration, disaster recovery planning and execution, and experience with the Ab Initio data integration toolset. This is a contract position.

Role responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain SQL Server disaster recovery plans, policies, and procedures to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor and maintain SQL Server database availability and performance, including system backups, replication, clustering, and log shipping.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve SQL Server database-related issues, such as connectivity, performance, and data corruption.
  • Work with development teams to design and implement high-performance, scalable database solutions.
  • Utilize Ab Initio to design, develop and maintain ETL processes to load data into SQL Server databases.
  • Perform database schema and table design and optimization to ensure the best performance and scalability.
  • Conduct regular security audits and implement security measures to protect sensitive data.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration, disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on CST (Central Standard Time) hours.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of Ab Initio or other ETL toolset required

Preferred qualifications

  • Proficiency in visualization/reporting tools such as Tableau and PowerBI or programmatic visualization library such as R ggplot2, Python matplotlib/seaborn/bokeh, Javascript D3.
  • Proficiency scripting in UNIX environment
  • Proficiency in big data environments and tools such as Spark, Hive, Impala, Pig, etc.
  • Proficiency with cloud architecture components (AWS, Azure, Google)
