Title: Licensure Exam Prep Tutor, Adolescent Mathematics

Location: Flexible within the US (New York Metro-Area Preferred)

Relay Graduate School of Education seeks an Adolescent Mathematics Licensure Exam Prep Tutor to support students with teacher licensure exams that assess mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge. The Tutor will work closely with Relay’s licensure exam preparation department to support candidates in our educator preparation programs across the country. This inidual will ensure we meet our vision of building a more erse teacher workforce through the incorporation of a comprehensive student support model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach licensure exam prep coursework in a synchronous (live) online format to teacher candidates preparing for a range of adolescent mathematics licensure exams
  • Become intimately familiar with the adolescent mathematics licensure exams you are assigned to support (e.g., NYSTCE Multi-Subject Middle Childhood & Secondary Mathematics exams (232/244), NYSTCE Mathematics (004))
  • Create a professional and welcoming environment in group and 1:1 settings, demonstrating respect for candidates’ erse backgrounds and experiences
  • Utilize active listening and questioning strategies to diagnose candidate needs and monitor progress
  • Support candidates’ development of inidualized study plans, making appropriate referrals to other study resources as needed
  • Guide teacher candidates in cultivating growth mindsets, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning habits as they prepare for their licensure exams
  • Participate in professional development opportunities with Relay’s licensure assessment prep team to improve facilitation skills, grow cultural competencies, and utilize feedback and reflection to improve tutoring practices
  • Ability to teach, tutor, and/or attend department meetings in the evenings and occasional Saturdays (no more than 4 per term) for 2 hour sessions, 2-3 days/week

QUALIFICATIONS

First and foremost, the tutor must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in ersity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This includes providing teacher preparation programs that set novice teachers up to succeed in the classroom from day one; leadership programs that train new and veteran school and district leaders to best serve their school communities; and teacher-facing professional education that provides ongoing learning to educators. Additionally, for this position we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • Valid teaching certificate in adolescent mathematics (New York Initial or Professional Certificate preferred)
  • At least 2 years of work experience as an adolescent mathematics teacher
  • Experience teaching or facilitating professional development for adult learners in an online environment preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the content area (e.g., mathematics content and mathematics content pedagogy)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Alignment with Relay’s mission
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

COMPENSATION

Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a erse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. This a part-time hourly role with a start date of May 30th 2023 and tutoring between the dates of June 5th 2023 – August 5th 2023. Tutors will be paid an hourly rate of $35/hour.
