Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Software Development for the Utility Virtual Power Plant (VPP) API, this role will be responsible for building and maintaining Renew Homes B2B service, serving our energy partners. You will provide highly-available, highly-scalable, secure access to enrolled consumer IoT appliances, associated telemetry, and other reporting data in support of energy services for our partners. You will work closely with product design and management, sales, and other engineering teams to directly impact our revenue.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain Renew Homes API, connecting hundreds of energy service and utility partners to millions of consumer IoT devices and appliances.
  • Write code across our stack (AWS, GCP, Python, Postgres, Nx)
  • Establish, monitor, enforce and meet KPIs and SLOs measuring the operational health of the energy partner service
  • Create and update API documentation to support energy partner onboarding and services
  • Work directly with energy partners as necessary to onboard or resolve technical challenges in integrating with the API
  • Participate in our agile development process: regular team updates, standup meetings, 1-on-1s, and peer code reviews.

Requirements

  • 4+ years professional, day-to-day experience building backend software services
  • Bachelors/Masters degree in computer science or equivalent experience in the software industry
  • Experience building and maintaining B2B APIs, including working knowledge of tools and libraries in the ecosystem
  • Experience with event-driven, cloud-based systems and serverless architectures
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in order to work effectively in a remote environment and in support of energy partners
  • Bonus/Nice To Haves:
    • Expertise in one or more elements of our specific stack: Python, Nx, AWS Lambda and CDK, Postgres, AirFlow
    • Experience with modern API frameworks and standards (e.g., OpenAPI)
    • Experience with scalable distributed data processing
    • Experience in the electric power industry
