Title: Software Engineer
Location: New York NY United States
Job Description:
About Orchard
Orchard is radically simplifying the way people buy and sell their homes. For the average American, the home purchase and sale process takes months, creates anxiety, and is filled with uncertainty and hassle. Orchard has reimagined the end-to-end experience of buying and selling, from innovative home search tools to find the perfect home to the ability to buy a new home before selling your current one. Orchard customers manage the entire experience through a personalized online dashboard, while also getting the support of best-in-class Orchard real estate agents.
Headquartered in New York City with teammates across the US, Orchard has 150+ employees. We have financing from top-tier investors including Revolution, Firstmark, Accomplice, Navitas and Juxtapose, who have also backed the likes of Pinterest, Airbnb, Shopify and Sweetgreen. We're proud to be recognized by Crain's, Inc. 5000, Glassdoor, Parity.org and Built In on their lists of best places to work.
About the Role
Orchard's engineering team values clarity, collaboration, and ownership. Our Consumer team builds the systems behind Orchard's website and the tools that help agents reach new customers. We focus on helping people explore homes, book consultations, and connect with our agents.
Our site serves over 150k unique visitors each month and sees about 700k pageviews. The team partners closely with marketing, product, and design to support new campaigns, track performance, and ensure the site is fast and reliable at scale.
You'll work on the backend systems that make this possible. That means building and improving APIs, data services, and integrations that support both customers and agents. Your work will touch many parts of the systems our team owns. We build and maintain the services that bring new customers into Orchard, from the public website and intake flows, to scheduling and consultation booking. We also support the tools that help our agents work with those customers, like managing and syncing leads, powering outreach, and maintaining privacy and consent systems that keep customer data safe and compliant.
You'll work closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and business stakeholders to plan and ship projects. The team is small and moves quickly, so you'll have real ownership and visibility in your work. We use AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude in our daily work, and look for engineers who are curious about how these tools can make development faster and more effective.
This is a full-time hybrid role based in our New York office (2 days per week).
What You'll Do Here
- Build and maintain APIs and backend services that power Orchard's website and internal tools. Most of our stack uses Qwik on the frontend and Python with Postgres and OpenSearch on the backend, though some other services use Angular and Go.
- Work with product and design to turn ideas into clear, well-scoped projects.
- Debug and improve core services to make them faster and more reliable as we prepare for national growth over the next 12-18 months.
- Ensure our systems can scale smoothly as our user base continues to grow.
- Write clean, tested code that's easy to understand and maintain.
- Help improve developer workflows, testing, and documentation.
- Take part in on-call rotations and own the systems you build.
- Work with a small team that values communication, trust, and practical solutions.
We'd Love to Hear From You if You Have
- At least 3 years of experience as a software engineer focused on backend development.
- Strong skills in Python or other backend languages, with solid knowledge of APIs and databases.
- Experience with tools like AWS, Postgres, SQL, Kafka, Airflow, Docker, or CircleCI is a plus.
- Strong debugging and testing habits, and experience working in shared codebases.
- Regularly use AI tools like Copilot, Cursor, or Claude - or are genuinely curious and eager to learn how to use them effectively.
- A low-ego, problem-solving mindset. You take ownership and improve what you touch.
- Interest in a hands-on team where engineers ship quickly and have real impact.
For NYC residents only: The pay range for this position in New York City is $130,000-$150,000/year. The actual base pay offered may vary within the range provided depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Stock options and other incentive pay may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law. Please note that the range provided is applicable only to New York City-based. - Ensure consistent communications with Responsible Disclosure reporters and internal stakeholders and maintain accurate records for compliance.
- Use scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash, REST APIs, Terraform modules, GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps/GitLab CI) for ad hoc fixes and to reduce toil (bulk policy changes, project provisioning, baseline exceptions, report consolidation).
- Stakeholder for helping design Secure Pipelines to be implemented by the Security Engineering Enablement team
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 4 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 18 years’ experience in a related field

- Practical expertise operating and tuning SAST, DAST, SCA, API testing, IaC/container scanners, plus CNAPP for multi cloud.
- Scripting/automation proficiency (Python preferred; PowerShell/Bash nice) and REST API integration skills; able to create quick utilities and pipeline jobs to reduce manual effort.
- Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10, ASVS, SAMM, NIST SSDF, CSA CCM, secure design patterns, cryptography fundamentals, authN/Z (OAuth2/OIDC/JWT), and common web/API vulns and mitigations.

Title: Search - Workchat - Applied Data Scientist II
Location:
Remote (Distributed): U.S., Greece, Ireland, Israel, Portugal, Spain, Sweden - Fully remote
Hybrid: London, U.K. - Hybrid
Job Description:
Elastic, the Search AI Company, enables everyone to find the answers they need in real time, using all their data, at scale — unleashing the potential of businesses and people. The Elastic Search AI Platform, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500, brings together the precision of search and the intelligence of AI to enable everyone to accelerate the results that matter. By taking advantage of all structured and unstructured data — securing and protecting private information more effectively — Elastic’s complete, cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability help organizations deliver on the promise of AI.
What is The Role
The Search Conversational Experiences team builds Elastic’s new conversational (agentic) platform that lets customers chat with their own data in Elasticsearch. We own the quality layer for RAG, agents and tools, retrieval/citations, streaming, memory, and—crucially—the evaluation signals that turn open-ended questions into grounded, reliable answers. As a Data Scientist, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team (backend, DS, PM, UX) driving chat quality end-to-end: designing and running evaluation pipelines, improving prompts and tool behaviors, and turning measurements into product decisions that customers can feel.se
You’ll help tackle frontier problems—folding RAG and vector search into an agent’s knowledge base, dynamically enriching model context to boost groundedness, shaping agent routing and tool selection policies, lighting up agent-driven visualizations on top of Elasticsearch data, and exploring multimodality and reasoning strategies where they truly move the needle. This is an applied role: you will prototype, evaluate, and partner with engineers to ship.
What you will be doing
- Own well scoped pieces of the offline and online evaluation pipeline for agent workflows: retrieval coverage, reranking quality, reasoning traces, tool selection accuracy, citation integrity, and final answer helpfulness and faithfulness
- Calibrate and validate LLM-as-judge rubrics against human labels, track agreement with statistics, and add periodic checks to prevent drift
- Instrument agent runs with traces so you can localize errors to retrieval, reasoning, tool execution, or grounding, then contribute CI checks that block merges on regressions
- Translate evaluation readouts into product calls such as model choice, routing policy, tool gating thresholds, prompt and chunking updates, and agent customization for Elastic use cases
- Collaborate with backend engineers on contracts for ES|QL, citations, and telemetry schemas, and with PM and UX to land findings in shipped features
- Share outcomes through clear docs, notebooks, and PRs, and contribute utilities that make evaluation faster and more reproducible for the team
What you will bring
- 3 to 5 years in applied DS or ML with production ownership, including at least 1 to 2 years focused on evaluating LLM or agent workflows in shipped systems
- Proven experience designing and running stepwise evaluations for agent pipelines: retrieval coverage, reranking quality, reasoning traces, tool selection accuracy, citation grounding, and final answer helpfulness and faithfulness
- Golden set hygiene: stratified dataset design, leakage controls, reviewer guidelines, inter-rater checks, and versioned labels
- Fluent with offline IR metrics and guardrails: Recall at k, nDCG, MRR, groundedness or citation support, plus latency and cost tracking; can move from offline gains to online A or B tests
- Telemetry and traces for agent runs that localize failures to retrieval, reasoning, tool execution, or grounding; ability to add CI quality gates that block merges on regressions
- Practical Elasticsearch experience or a similar search system; ES|QL familiarity is a plus
- Strong written communication and async collaboration habits in a distributed teamCompensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.
The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below.
These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.
An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.

Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies -- including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay -- manage their observability strategies with the Grafana LGTM Stack, which can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud or self-managed with the Grafana Enterprise Stack, both featuring scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).
We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.
We are looking for candidates in Eastern US time zones.
We are looking for a Security Assurance Engineer to join our GRC engineering team. We are building a security system that’s automated at scale, rigorously data-driven, and built from the ground up with defense-in-depth and self-healing in mind. We support a highly autonomous, remote-first, cloud-native organization. We are a technical team that can build any tool we need, while knowing when to buy to improve velocity.
To support our growth and ambitious vision, we embrace agile principles and values, share openly, apply context-driven security mechanisms, default to action, and have an OSS-first mindset. We are a 100% remote company. We believe in high-velocity but sustainable expectations and timeframes, giving people the room to do great work.
The Opportunity:
The Security Security Assurance Engineer will collaborate across their team, the security department, and wider Grafana to articulate security policies, implement continuous monitoring, automate workflows, and write and deploy policies across all of our SDLC, applications, and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience building, implementing and improving the maturity of security programs in Cloud-based SaaS organizations.
This role is significantly hands-on keyboard development, so programming experience is critical and a knowledge of securing cloud-native, container-based architectures are highly valuable. Knowledge of security standards and frameworks (ISO, FedRAMP, PCI-DSS, etc) is useful, but the disposition to quickly learn new things is more important than rote knowledge. Experience negotiating with peers, stakeholders, customers, and auditors is a plus. You will work alongside other security engineers, full-stack developers, and customer-facing teams.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Be a technical contributor on our assurance team covering a range of areas, including certifications, application, build, cloud, and supply chain security, and internal security tooling development
- Develop, implement, and maintain highly automated security assurance programs to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, NIST, PCI-DSS, TISAX, whatever else our customers eventually throw at us)
- Develop systems, automations, and methods of security observability to push the GRC engineering organization beyond just meeting certification requirements
- Deploy security and compliance checks in an employee-enabling way (guardrails and paved roads) in their daily workflows and build pipelines
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security controls into the software development lifecycle and operational processes.
- Respond to customer security issues, security alerts, and potential incidents
What Makes You a Great Fit:
- Solid experience with at least one programming language. We primarily use Go, TypeScript, and Python but most languages translate well. You will take a code screen.
- Knowledge of using and securing containerized, cloud-native applications, ideally with Kubernetes. Experience with multiple cloud providers is a strong plus.
- Experience in automating security compliance processes using tools, scripts, and frameworks while enabling developer and employee workflows.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Some experience collaborating (and negotiating) with peers, stakeholders, auditors, and customers.
- Some understanding of industry-recognized security frameworks, standards, and certifications, such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS, NIST, or GDPR.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Bonus Points For:
- Working knowledge of Grafana Labs OSS projects and products. Experience in using observability tooling to solve security problems.
- Experience working with OSS communities
- Experience securing large-scale distributed systems running in public clouds
In the US, the base compensation range for this role is $123,933 - $148,719. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed throughout the interview process. All of our roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), giving every team member ownership in Grafana Labs' success. We believe in shared outcomes—RSUs help us stay aligned and invested as we scale globally.
*Compensation ranges are country specific. If you are applying for this role from a different location than listed above, your recruiter will discuss your specific market’s defined pay range & benefits at the beginning of the process.
