Ness is an early-stage, remote-first startup at the unique intersection of fintech and healthcare. We’re on a mission to build a world where everyone can afford to be healthy.

We’ve raised $15.5M from some of the most iconic operators and entrepreneurs in the space (e.g. Sweetgreen, Oura, Mirror, Headspace, One Medical, Thrive Market). Started by the former CEO & Founder of Greatist (acquired by Healthline in 2019), we're building an AmEx-like credit card for health. We’ve got enormous ambitions to flip healthcare on its head through an alternative to health insurance that rewards consumers for the right behaviors and brings down the cost of healthcare.

Requirements

< class="h3">You May Be The Ideal Candidate If...

None of these are requirements, just the kinds of people and experiences we think could be most successful here.

  • You have 8+ years of marketing experience and BOTH built a consumer brand from zero to one AND scaled a brand from one to many.
  • You’ve proven not only the ability to think strategically, but also the willingness to get your hands dirty and do what needs to be done. (We may be well-funded, but we're still very much an early stage startup!)
  • You’ve got a history of being a tremendous manager and servant leader that empowers others to do their best work however they work best.
  • You’ve got a contagious attitude that's team-first and super collaborative with all the rest of the company's amazing leadership.
  • You’re experienced enough in content, growth, influencer, partnership, and email marketing to figure out how to succeed in each. And if you aren’t, we’re looking for someone who learns very quick. (Yes, we're looking for a marketing unicorn… but we know they exist!)
  • You’ve got a personal passion for health & wellness and making it more accessible (ideally some relationships in the space, too.)
  • And, finally, if you’ve got experience in acquiring fintech users and/or high price-point fitness customers that’d be a plus!

  • Spearhead all growth, awareness, and engagement initiatives... growing our funnel through EOY leading to a big public launch early next and then rocketship growth from there on!
  • Guide and coach a growing, unbelievably talented team of content, growth, influencer, and brand marketers.
  • Work super closely with our partnerships team, product team, and then some to coordinate campaigns, launches, and more.
  • Grow a massive top-of-the funnel audience on organic channels the right way, build a paid marketing machine that's cost effective, and deliver on amazing engagement and experience for existing users.

  • We're a pre-launch startup with a lot to prove over the next six months. There's lots of pressure AND lots of potential, but not 24+ months of runway.
  • We're looking for someone that's done this before, not someone looking to do a startup for the first time.
  • This is a job focused mostly on strategy, but there's tactical work to do, too. We're not just hiring for a manager.
  • We're looking for someone okay to roll with the punches—projects and priorities are likely to shift!

1. First Hello

You'll meet our CEO & Founder, Derek, on a 30-45 minute video call. There's nothing to prepare in advance.

First, we want to explore if we're a good fit for each other. Derek will have reviewed your application and resume in detail, so the discussion will be mostly focused on what brings out the best in you and what's next. We want to be confident Ness can offer the environment (culture, responsibility, org structure, etc...) that'll drive the most professional success you've had so far.

Derek will also share more about our vision and why he started Ness!

2. Deeper Dive

You'll talk to Derek for another 30-45 minutes. Again, no need to prepare anything.

Next, we want to figure out if you've got the right experience for this position. This discussion will be mostly a "behavioral" interview focused on what you've done before. We want to build conviction you'll succeed in this job the same way you've succeeded in the past and then some!

We'll save time for you to ask any questions you'd like, too!

3. Meet The Team

You'll meet at least two of our team members, each for 30 minutes. Again, no need to prepare anything.

Everyone will have reviewed anything in advance. The purpose of these meetings is to deepen your understanding of how we work and our confidence in your ability to thrive in our culture and your functional expertise and expertise.

3. Take-Home + Work Session

After this, we'll ask you to do a take home challenge (along with answering some team questions) of some kind so we can see how you think and perform. We'll ask you to work on it, then lead our entire marketing team through it.

Why? Well, there ain't no job interview like actually doing what's expected of you on the job. (This also helps us weed out unconscious bias.) We value rigorous, "crispy" thinking— and this is a chance to prove it.

4. References

With your help, we'll reach out to folks you've worked with in the past. We're usually pretty far along here, so this is mostly about learning from outside perspectives how to best manage and empower you.

5. The Decision / Job Offer
