We’re obsessed with creating work that people truly love and welcome into their digital lives — unlocking new possibilities with brilliant ideas, purposeful innovation, and exceptional digital craft. We’ve been recognized by the industry’s leading publications and award shows, including having won 14 Cannes Lions, 40 FWAs, and 36 Webby nominations. We’ve also been recognized as Ad Age’s Small Agency of the Year Southeast and “Best Places to Work” from both Ad Age and Inc.
We’re looking for an experienced Design Director to join our team, leading our design discipline with a compelling vision for best-in-class work, and fostering the culture that makes it possible. In this role, you’ll lead and manage our team of UX and visual designers, helping them grow and thrive. You’ll be responsible for upholding and advancing our standard for exceptional work, both as a hands-on leader of key projects and by overseeing work driven by design leads within your team. The right candidate for this role will be an accomplished and trusted creative leader, with a track record of building amazing teams and shaping world-class digital platforms, products, and interactive experiences.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage our multidisciplinary team of designers, including both UX and visual designers, giving them clear direction, candid feedback, regular coaching, and thoughtful support to help them grow and thrive.
Oversee design quality across projects, upholding and advancing our standard for exceptional work. Ensure all of our work is perfectly human-centered, inspiringly creative, and flawlessly crafted.
For projects in which you are the hands-on creative lead:
Own responsibility for the creative approach, plan, and final product. Direct the creatives assigned to the project and their day-to-day workstreams.
Collaborate with leads in strategy, technology, production, and client partnership to drive overall project success — ensuring exceptional work quality, great client outcomes, and on-time / on-budget delivery.
Present and sell-in the work, from vision to execution. Build client trust through expertise, collaboration, and chemistry.
Contribute hands-on design, as the work requires.
Assist in the creation of new business proposals and presentations, illuminating our creative vision and approach for the work. Pitch and present the work with clarity, confidence, and energy.
Hire and manage right-fit freelancers or full-time design resources to meet project or agency growth needs.
Along with fellow creative leaders, including our CEO/ECD, creative director, and principal designer, guide the direction of the creative department and shape overall team success.
Drive continuous improvement of our design process, tools, and best practices — especially those that incorporate AI, as it continually reshapes how work gets done. Stay on top of emerging trends and innovation opportunities.
Be a champion of our values, a role model for creative excellence, and a positive force within the company.
Our design discipline is part of our overall creative team and houses a remarkable group of talent, including but not limited to team and project leaders such as our creative director, principal designer, and two associate design directors. Our collective company is about 25 people, with talent spanning strategy, creative, technology, production, and client engagement — all sharing the same vision to create the world’s best digital experiences. Our clients know us as a committed partner who creates category-defining work. Our team knows it’s possible because of the incredible culture we’ve built.
Requirements
10+ years of agency or in-house experience, at least 4 in a creative leadership role
An inspiring digital portfolio
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Benefits
A wealth of company benefits include health, dental, matching 401k, parental leave, paid learning and development opportunities, and more. We offer flexible paid time off and uncapped sick time. In addition, we close for 18 paid holidays, including two full weeks in which we fully close operations—one at midsummer, and one at the winter holidays.
Location
We’d love to have you join us in our headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, where most of our team is based, and so we’ll give preference to candidates who are open to working here, but we’re also open to a remote role for the right candidate. If remote, expect to join us in Norfolk about once a quarter, in addition to any necessary client travel. Our local team works a hybrid schedule with three days in the office, as well as the option to work remotely up to two months a year.
For a candidate open to relocation, we’ll cover relocation expenses and can also offer temporary housing. If you’re not already familiar, the Norfolk-Virginia Beach region is an amazing community on the coast that marries beach lifestyle with city culture. There’s thriving scenes in food, creative arts, small businesses, and startups — and it’s a wonderful place to raise a family. Work with devs to ensure pixel-perfect implementation in both web and mobile apps.
Contribute to and evolve a flexible design system for PlayMode that balances brand consistency with gameplay creativity.

Enjoys solving interaction challenges with elegant, clever solutions.
Understands how to design for both casual gamers and power users.
Has experience designing responsive interfaces and mobile-first UIs.

A portfolio showcasing strong UI and interaction design across both desktop and mobile platforms.
Native in Figma :)
An eye for a beautiful, balanced design

Senior Product and Web Designer
About Miscreants
Miscreants is a global digital marketing and design agency, focused on cybersecurity companies. We’re a team of ex-security analysts, strategists, designers, marketers, and all-around problem solvers who have made it our mission to build better systems and experiences for the cybersecurity industry.
Our services run the gamut from physical brand activations to digital product experiences.
We are a fully-remote team primarily based in the United States and Europe. We believe in sourcing the best talent so we can consistently deliver top notch results to our clients.
The Role
We're looking for a mid to senior-level Product Designer who isn’t afraid to jump in on web design projects from time to time.
You’ll work closely with our Product Lead to help our clients craft engaging user experiences that make complex workflows feel simple. You’ll typically be establishing new design systems and setting the look and feel for the products you work on.
You’ll also collaborate with our web design team, taking on web design projects or helping to make sure that the web and product experiences are cohesive.
This role requires someone who can learn quickly, digest lots of technical details, and has a strong product sense. You need to be equally comfortable working in low fidelity wireframes and high fidelity mockups.
Note: must be in a timezone between Central Standard Time and Central European Time.
Your responsibilities will include:
Producing wireframes and high-fidelity, interactive prototypes for new products and features in Figma.
Creating well-organized, maintainable design systems from scratch or improving on existing systems.
Designing engaging, maintainable marketing sites that convey a client’s brand and resonate with their target audience.
Working with other Miscreants teammates to ideate and explore design directions for new products and brands.
Participating in design critiques with the Miscreants team and with clients (you must take feedback well).
Working with developers on client teams to help them understand and implement your designs.
Building strong client and team relationships through clear communication.
Creating and delivering presentations that communicate the process (the why) behind your design decisions.
Serving as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate difficult product and brand decisions.
What We're Looking For
Detail oriented
Most of your work will be creating production-ready, high-fidelity mockups and working with the client’s team to get these implemented. You should have a sharp eye for details in your design and pay attention to things like consistent typography, spacing and use of color.
Eye for aesthetics
We create software that solves problems and looks great doing it (nobody wants to use ugly software!). You should be a creative visual designer with an understanding of how aesthetics impact user experience and perception.
Strong communication skills
The success of a project and the client’s experience often depends as much or more on your communication skills as it does on your designs themselves. It is important that you can communicate the process behind your work, navigate and interpret client feedback, and work with developers to implement your designs.
Experience designs as a user
We believe the best designers excel when you can put yourself in the shoes of the users and your clients. You should seek out feedback on your ideas as a way to push your work to the best it can be. You need to always make thoughtful considerations for things like error messages, empty states, and edge cases.
Comfort with technical, data-heavy applications
Cybersecurity products are often extremely technical and need to display large volumes of data in a way that isn’t overwhelming, but also gives users a broad view of what’s going on in their systems. This means understanding technical concepts, and balancing data density with the flow of an application.
What We Offer
Competitive salary & benefits - We offer competitive salaries and benefits based on your area and experience
Flexibility - Unlimited PTO, flexible work hours, and a focus on momentum over process
Remote-first - Everyone on our team is remote and we plan to stay that way
Challenging, interesting work - Work with innovative cybersecurity brands to bring new products to market and improve experiences for existing products
Collaborative team of talented industry experts
Growth opportunities - in the past year we have doubled in size and are in the process of doubling again
How to apply
First, submit an application. If we think you could be a strong addition to the team, we’ll invite you to interview. Our interview process consists of 3 steps:
Product Lead - The first interview is with our Product Lead, this is who you will be working most closely with on product design projects. They will get to know you and e into your background, portfolio, and design philosophy.
COO - The second interview is with our COO. They will cover company culture, logistics, and answer any questions you have about working at Miscreants.
Creative Director - The final interview will be with our Creative Director. They will e into more detail on your technical skills and portfolio of work, and can answer questions about our creative process at Miscreants.
During the process we’ll do our best to let you know if it’s not going to be a good fit. Thank you for taking the time to read this far, we can’t wait to meet you!

Mission
Behavioral health is more important than ever. But almost half of behavioral health clinicians report that they spend 5+ hrs per day on administrative work. Some of that admin work happens “in the room” during patient visits but no matter where it happens, we believe it’s too much.
JotPsych’s mission is to defeat admin work and let clinicians practice human-centered healthcare.
We already reduce note taking time by 90%. But we’re just getting started. Billing, appointment scheduling, e-prescriptions, and more are right around the bend.
Role
As the Head of Design, you will be the visionary and hands-on leader behind the design of JotPsych’s user experience (UX) and interface (UI), ensuring our product remains intuitive, engaging, and highly functional. You will collaborate closely with our product and engineering teams to design seamless experiences for our users, with an emphasis on user research and feedback integration.
While the primary focus of this role is on product design, you will also oversee the creation of marketing assets, ensuring consistent branding across our marketing and conference materials. Your role will balance high-level strategic thinking with the ability to roll up your sleeves and execute beautiful, functional designs.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Design Leadership: Own and lead the end-to-end design process for JotPsych’s user interface and experience, working closely with product management and engineering teams to translate complex workflows into simple, effective designs.
User-Centered Design: Conduct user research, usability testing, and feedback sessions to deeply understand the needs of mental health providers, incorporating those insights into the product design.
Design Systems & Standards: Develop and maintain a robust design system and set of design standards that ensure consistency, scalability, and a polished, cohesive product experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, and data science teams to define design requirements, iterate on wireframes, prototypes, and designs, and ensure a seamless handoff of design specifications.
Marketing & Branding Support: While product design is your primary focus, you will also provide strategic oversight and execution for marketing and event materials (e.g., brochures, presentations, digital content) to ensure consistent visual identity across all platforms.
Event Design: Oversee the creation of design assets for conferences and trade shows, including booth designs, banners, and promotional materials that align with the product’s story and values.
Creative Leadership: Serve as a thought leader in design, promoting a culture of innovation, creativity, and user-centric thinking across the company.
Requirements
We’re looking for a team member with wildly high insight, and dogged work ethic. This particular role requires a great deal of flexibility, confidence, and attention to detail. Here is some more of what we’re looking for:
Experience: 7+ years of experience in a design leadership role, with an emphasis on product design (UI/UX), and a strong portfolio showcasing your work in SaaS or digital products.
Curiosity-Driven Design: A demonstrated passion for deeply understanding user behaviors, with a knack for “reading between the lines” and identifying underlying needs that aren’t explicitly stated. You are always asking why and digging into the unspoken, revealed preferences of users, not just their expressed desires.
Over-the-Shoulder Research: Experience with hands-on, observational research methods—whether that’s sitting with users as they interact with the product or conducting contextual inquiries—gaining insights that go beyond traditional surveys and focus groups.
User-Centered Thinking: An ability to translate these deep insights into intuitive, user-focused designs. You excel at uncovering the small details that enhance usability while maintaining a broader vision of how these insights fit into the overall product experience.
Product Design Expertise: Proficiency in creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, with an emphasis on usability and user research. You know how to bring a product to life by balancing aesthetics with function, and you iterate based on data and real user feedback.
Technical Skills: Mastery of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools like InVision or similar.
Design Systems Thinker: Experience in building and scaling design systems that enable consistency and efficiency across product interfaces while leaving room for creativity where it counts.
Collaboration: Strong communicator and collaborator, capable of working closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to champion the user’s perspective throughout the design process.
Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment, with the ability to pivot as needed and scale design efforts efficiently.
Timing and location
We want to hire as soon as possible.
🏡 🚞 This full-time role is officially remote, but with a strong preference for candidates based in the US and willing to travel somewhat frequently to our headquarters in Washington, DC. We have an office here that both co-founders work out of.
Compensation
Compensation includes the following benefits:
🌎 Deeply meaningful work - you’re changing how behavioral health happens
💵 Cash ($140k+)
🧱 Material equity
➡️ All other benefits on our full job listing.
Application process
First, email us ([email protected]) to introduce yourself and explain why you want to work at JotPsych. Keep it short (200 words or less) but professional. Include your resume, LinkedIn, and portfolio (if you have it).
The Subject of the email must include the palette (🎨) emoji…. because this role includes (but is not limited to!) correct use of metaphorical color!
Second, we’ll ask you to construct a feature design based on a set of materials we provide you. This will require ~2 hrs of at-home work, along with a 60 minute interview about your process, the “why” behind your design choices, and more.
Third, we’ll do 3 reference checks.
Fourth, we’ll choose a small cohort (2-3) of you for a weekend of co-working together. We’ll fly you to DC if you don’t live here, and by day we’ll jam on a design problem. In the evenings, we’ll gather around the table for structured conversations about product direction, strategy, and vision.

At Ello, our mission is to maximize the potential of all children. Our first product, Read with Ello, is an AI reading teacher that listens to children read out loud. Ello uses speech recognition to help them when they get stuck, makes up stories using generative AI, and inspires a love for reading.
We’re now building on the success of Read with Ello and putting together the pieces of the world’s first complete AI teacher for all children. Together, we believe we can close the primary school education gap worldwide.
Ello has been recognized on Fortune’s “Change the World” and Time’s 2024 Best Inventions lists. We are well-funded, backed by world-class investors, and ready to recruit new talent to help us achieve our vision.
Who you’ll be joining
Ello is a rapidly growing, series A startup focused on revolutionizing the way children learn and interact with technology. You will work directly with Ello’s Co-founder & CTO, Catalin Voss, on a small team (<10) of engineers, learning designers, and PMs to develop new products. You’ll be surrounded by a team of A+ engineers and you’ll work with some of the foremost experts in ML to productionize models and build new product experiences. We work in-person out of our San Francisco office and we’re big believers in face-to-face collaboration.
About the role
We’re looking for a strong Sr. Product Engineer, New Products to independently own the build-out of learning activities as part of Ello’s next-generation AI tutoring apps. You will bridge the gap between product development and engineering to own features from conception to playtest, at times acting as your own product manager, and at times collaborating closely with our product team. You’ll be part of a small team that is responsible for bringing Ello’s tutoring AI to life through agent control, character development, and game interactions. You pay attention to the details and thrive building products that delight users.
You can work full-stack and across multiple programming languages, build chains, etc. Learning yet another language doesn’t feel like a daunting task at this point. You have experience with or a demonstrated curiosity for GenAI pipelines. On the backend, you’re able to write performant Python code and deal with complex I/O pipelines. On the frontend, you’re able to take an existing component library and build a rough UI from scratch (Flutter & React) without a designer or implement pixel-perfect layouts in collaboration with a designer.
We welcome candidates from all backgrounds – mobile engineering, machine learning, or design & product – but we prioritize strong technical foundations and demonstrated execution speed in shipping. As an ideal candidate, you’ll have built and shipped software products end-to-end in the past, for example through an initiative you championed at a prior job, through an impressive side project, or as the founder of your own company. We’d love to hear about those in the interview process!
Responsibilities
Own and build features end-to-end, from concept to delivery
Build agent-based AI pipelines, interfacing with ML engineers working on core models (e.g. our child speech recognition pipeline)
Serve as a bridge between product design and engineering, moving fluidly between UX/UI and technical problem-solving
Develop and integrate front-end components for mobile and web platforms, leveraging existing design systems and brand guidelines
Do whatever it takes to go from product conception to playtest
Required Experience
Engineering:
Excellent production-grade engineering & debugging skills across backend, ML, and mobile frontend
Experience with at least one of Flutter, native Android development in Java/Kotlin, or iOS development in Swift/ObjC
Experience with ML tooling and GenAI tools (you don’t need to be a linear algebra beast designing your own models, but you should understand how multimodal models work and communicate with ML engineers in their language)
Some experience with GenAI models & pipelines, including human eval infrastructure
Familiarity with Git flow, etc.
Basic data science skills (enough to analyze your own product insights)
Familiarity with basic infrastructure setup, continuous integration, and production release workflows
Design & Product:
Very high level of attention to detail. For example, you see how small changes in a character’s facial expression or the shading of a background affect the emotional impact of the end product
Demonstrated bias to action in product building: creating something from nothing and turning chaos into order
Demonstrated ability to work within existing design systems and brand standards to build new front-end components
Cross-functional skills; you likely either picked up engineering from a product/design domain or product skills from a computer science background
Familiarity with project management tools and collaborative development tools
Nice to have experience
Experience with game development
Experience as a product manager or in a role with significant ownership over features or components
Deep understanding of mobile app architecture, design patterns, and performance optimization techniques
Experience with designing products for children
We look for candidates who
Have something to teach us
Want to do work they are proud of to ship products they are proud of
Have an urge to make a real impact on child development at scale
Take initiative and full ownership of their work
Prefer open and direct communication grounded in empathy to beating around the bush
Exemplify integrity in their actions, decisions, and communication
Want to build meaningful relationships at work
Here are some reasons to be a part of our team
Dive deep into the rapidly evolving world of AI and interactive learning.
Experience the joy of turning your designs and code into engaging and educational experiences for children worldwide
Be part of an A+ team and an engineering culture of excellence
About Ello
Ello is a public benefit corporation on a mission to maximize the potential of all children. We’re currently around 45 people, headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in São Paulo, Brazil; Nairobi, Kenya; and New York.
Our team has deep expertise in artificial intelligence, K-12 education, and child development across institutions such as Stanford, Berkeley, Google, Apple, and more. We were part of Y Combinator’s W20 batch and are funded by world-class investors including Goodwater Capital, Homebrew, Reed Hastings, Common Sense Growth, Ravensburger, Project A Ventures, Reach Capital, Khosla Ventures, WndrCo, Visible Ventures, and K9 Ventures.
We’re a small, collaborative team that takes each other’s voices very seriously. Because our mission is to support all children, it is critical that our team is representative of the communities we work in; we place significant emphasis on ensuring ersity in our team and inclusion in our culture.
We feel enormously privileged to be one of the few companies that has the opportunity to take a shot at truly revolutionizing education with AI at this inflection point in technology. We don’t take it for granted, so we work quite hard to turn that vision into reality with urgency. We want to create an environment in which we can all be our best selves, use our strengths to take Ello forward, and develop our own skills. We want to have fun while working hard to do impactful things that we’re proud of – and we believe it’s possible to do both.
