About Microverse

We believe the place where you are born shouldn’t determine your opportunities in life. We provide access to global opportunities by offering a world-class education no matter where you come from.

Microverse is an online school for software developers where students learn to work remotely with people from around the world. Students don’t pay tuition until they get hired and start a global career. As of today, we have students in 100+ countries, and more than 90% of our alumni get a job within 6 months with an average salary increase of 240% working for companies like Microsoft, and VMWare.

We are backed by amazing investors worldwide, including Y Combinator, Northzone, General Catalyst, and many world-class angel investors, such as Paul Graham, Paul Buchheit (the creator of Gmail), Kevin Hartz (the founder of Eventbrite), and Erica Brescia (Github’s COO).

We are a passionate and fast-moving team of global citizens working remotely from 12+ countries. Being remote-first and transparent, we take pride in the amazing remote culture we are building, while also making time for in-person time with team members around the world. We are a small but mighty team of curious, life-long learners, who love tackling challenges and helping shape the future of education.

About the Role

Are you interested in developing learning paths for students all around the world working hard to change their lives? Do you want to be at the forefront of remote education, helping students learn collaboratively in a multicultural, teacher-less environment?

We are searching for a detail-oriented, data-driven, experimentally-minded curriculum designer to join Microverse and take our full-stack web development program to the next level. You will own designing and developing technical components of the curriculum, focusing on the front-end components. You will be helping break down barriers and enable students from all over the world access life-changing opportunities through our remote education.

The Technical Curriculum Designer will report to the Product & Learning Director, and day-to-day you’ll work with a cross-functional Product Development squad focused on ensuring students get from Day 1 to completing the learning program successfully. You’ll collaborate with two other curriculum designers, PMs, experience designers, developers, and subject matter experts (both internal and external) as you work to achieve your goals. While we are highly collaborative, we are also highly asynchronous and strive to abide by remote-first best practices. You’ll send a lot of Loom videos and have comment conversations on documentation before meetings, so we can all stay off Zoom and maintain our flexible working schedules.

You’ll get an opportunity to be a highly impactful member of a fast-growing, mission-driven start-up with ambitious goals and a strong culture of care and collaboration. We’re looking to launch another program in the next year, and you could be part of designing the curriculum for that whole program!

Responsibilities

  • Own the learning outcomes, assessments, and curricula that support technical skills development in our programs.
  • Conduct research and collaborate with designers, subject matter experts, and other professionals both internal and external to Microverse to develop quality curricula and learning resources that can be completed collaboratively in a multi-cultural, peer-to-peer learning environment.
  • Develop a range of digital resources to optimize online learning for different learner profiles (video, audio, etc.)
  • Source and manage external content creators and subject matter experts to create new learning resources as needed.
  • Champion our curriculum design methodologies, which include a focus on curation not creation, and helping students find “just enough” mastery without going too deep.
  • Help design a curriculum management system that enables us to share different versions of our content with different cohorts of students, so you can run data-driven experiments to inform long-term changes to our program. (Think A/B testing, different versions of content between cohorts, etc.)
  • Establish feasible timeframes for students to achieve the goals and objectives outlined in the curriculum.
  • Collect feedback from students, reviewers, and coaches and monitor student progress, using that information to drive changes to curriculums.
  • Define and iterate on outcomes-based learning objectives, to ensure students are focused on the right things to land them an excellent job after completing the program.
  • Set up quizzes, capstone projects, and other formal and informal assessments to gauge the effectiveness of curricula and ensure students aren’t moving forward without adequately understanding the material.

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience specifically working with front-end technologies (JavaScript and React or other front-end frameworks)
