What You’ll Do
As a Full Stack Engineer on the Digital Payments team, you will be responsible for the Scalability and Modernization of digital payments that is geared towards eliminating fraud and protecting every entity within payments eco system including Discover’s consumers. You will build and release reliable software systems at scale. By partnering with enterprise-wide) teams, you’ll develop and maintain full stack solutions that fit our business needs. You’ll use your holistic view of all products (and their interactions) to design elegant solutions and strategize the future state of our larger technical ecosystem. - Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production
- Tends to Associate Application Engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work related tasks, directs the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers, and helps them continue to grow
- Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills
- Has an oversight on design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them
- Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures
- Contributes to and leads technology communities at Discover
- The chosen candidate will work in a paired programming environment
- This group follows the Agile methodology and works in 2 weeks sprints, each engineer is responsible for writing their own test scripts
Qualifications You’ll Need

Compensation:

The Role**As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be taking ownership of one or more domains of our product and will work closely with other Backend and Frontend engineers using cutting-edge open source frameworks to develop highly-available RESTful services and back-end systems.

Within this organization, we are looking for frontend engineers across a few different areas:
- Product: You’ll join a payments team building high-quality UIs for merchants’ checkout pages or the Stripe Dashboard working with experienced frontend and full-stack engineers to deliver world-class checkout experiences. You’ll work with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders across the organization to build new features and products across Elements, Checkout, and Link.
- Frontend Platform: As a platform engineer you will be building tools and systems to enable a 100+ engineering organization to deliver delightful frontend features for millions of Stripe merchants. Our team places a heavy emphasis on being domain experts on how to develop reliably and safely for the web platform at a very high scale.
- Experimentation/Growth: As part of a growth-focused engineering team, you will improve our buyer-facing experiences, experimentation foundations, and systems that power intelligence to improve a consumer’s experience and checkout conversion. This is a new, exciting area of focus for our organization, and we are looking for frontend engineers with growth or experimentation expertise to help us deliver more experiments than we’ve ever run before, and help us improve our foundations. You’ll work closely with data science, product managers, and designers to create, build, and execute buyer experiments efficiently.
As a frontend engineer at Stripe, you’ll join fast-moving teams building consumer-focused UIs and full-stack products. You’ll work with experienced engineers, product, design, and data science to conceive of and deliver world-class solutions to end-users problems.

Hybrid work at Stripe
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for iniduals and their teams.
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Pay and benefits
The annual US base salary range for this role is $150,500 – $269,200. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. What is Grafana Cloud?
Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.
The Databases department owns and operates the telemetry databases that are Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles. We offer our databases as a Cloud service supporting Grafana Cloud, and additionally as on-premise solutions with Grafana Enterprise Metrics, Grafana Enterprise Logs, and Grafana Enterprise Traces. They are multi-tenant distributed systems implemented in Go and running on Kubernetes across all major Cloud service providers (GCP, Azure, AWS).
Adaptive Telemetry Group
The Adaptive Telemetry group, part of the Databases department, has the mission of ensuring that all telemetry stored in our databases is worthy of attention. The group has already developed Adaptive Metrics and Adaptive Logs and is now in the path of iterating them while expanding the same vision to other telemetry signals These services operate at a large scale and performance is key to keeping the offering competitive and running smoothly.
An Adaptive Telemetry engineer has various work streams. They likely are engaged in a larger project with another engineer, as well as mixing in some performance and reliability improvements discovered through operating the system in production. They are also responsible for writing and reviewing PRs and design documents from other engineers in the squad, shepherding automated release rollouts, and participating in the on-call rotation for their systems.

Our tech stack is mostly made up of services written in Go, running on multiple Kubernetes clusters that leverage Cloud object storage.
