< class="h1">About Rutter

Rutter is the Universal API for reading and writing data across different commerce platforms, marketplaces, accounting systems, and payment processors. Rutter makes it easier for companies to access data to offer data-driven loans, underwrite merchants and SMBs, launch in new marketplaces, and more.

We’re backed by a16z and investors from leading fintech innovators like Plaid, Alloy, Ramp, and Modern Treasury.

< class="h1">The Role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer II to help us build the platform that supports our 30+ integrations. This presents a host of interesting technical challenges, from managing complex external dependencies to supporting data movement and normalization, to setting up measures on data quality.

As our Software Engineer, you are an essential part of Rutter’s Engineering team, and are directly responsible for pushing forward Rutter’s integration platform. You’ll learn our code base, determine the biggest areas for improvement, and align our team on the correct technical direction. You’ll help mentor and train other engineers on the team, and you’ll work closely with your peers. Finally, as with any engineering role, there will be a lot of code to write, review, and ship.

You will:

  • Improve the core systems that we use in order to build integrations in order to help Rutter become a first-in-class universal API.

  • Own Rutter’s infrastructure, working with the team to maintain our database, our workers, and our servers.

  • Build the alerting, testing, tooling, and QA processes needed to make maintenance of external dependencies easy.

  • Build out new features and products to help our customers deliver best-in-class e-commerce technology.

You are:

  • A software engineer with 2+ years of professional experience in back-end services

  • Excited about building for other engineers

  • Experienced with Typescript, Node, React, and Postgres. However, languages can be learned: we care much more about your general engineering skill than your understanding of a particular language or framework

You (ideally) have:

  • Experience working and scaling API products

  • Experience building integrations and managing several external dependencies

What you'll get:

  • A fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • Unlimited paid time off, quarterly company-wide recharge days, and a wellness stipend

  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave

  • A stipend to buy your laptop and set up your home office

  • 401K match

Where we are, and where you’ll be:

We're remote-first, with local offices in SoHo NYC and downtown San Francisco. This position can be hired anywhere in the United States.

Examples of what we've built:

Our product lives in our documentation. Here are some interesting features we've built:

  • Rutter Odyssey: building integrations 10x faster

  • A customizable merchant authentication component called Rutter Link

  • Syncing engines that handle data fetching and updates for all of our platform integrations

  • Access management controls for merchant credentials, which we refer to as Rutter Connections

  • A webhook handling system to deliver real-time store data updates

Rutter believes that ersity and inclusion enrich our workplace, so we are committed to hiring talented iniduals with erse backgrounds for our roles, including qualified applicants with prior arrest or conviction records in accordance with local, state, and/or federal laws, including the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
