Hybrid work at Stripe
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Adaptive Telemetry Group
The Adaptive Telemetry group, part of the Databases department, has the mission of ensuring that all telemetry stored in our databases is worthy of attention. The group has already developed Adaptive Metrics and Adaptive Logs and is now in the path of iterating them while expanding the same vision to other telemetry signals These services operate at a large scale and performance is key to keeping the offering competitive and running smoothly.
An Adaptive Telemetry engineer has various work streams. They likely are engaged in a larger project with another engineer, as well as mixing in some performance and reliability improvements discovered through operating the system in production. FilmFreeway is seeking a Senior Ruby Engineer to build and optimize the best user-focused product serving the film industry. Our small but mighty engineering team of two. We are a team that values independence and autonomy, and trust our engineers to pick the best tools suited for their tasks, while working collaboratively towards mutual goals.
We adhere to agile principles with a modified Kanban process, where we collectively contribute to several projects at a time, leveraging Jira to create tickets. From there, we brainstorm issues, assign and manage work, and deploy changes. We create WIP PRs and communicate on code changes as they’re happening, and use PRs to help indicate when work is ready to be reviewed and deployed.
As Senior Ruby Engineer, you will be working on the entire system, including feature development, production reliability, infrastructure, maintenance, upgrades, tooling, bugs, and troubleshooting. You will be partnering with our product and customer support teams to design and architect new features that will solve the pain points of our customers. While this is an inidual contributor role, you will also be guiding technical decisions, and providing code reviews. Your work will have a direct impact on our very fast-growing community and will be seen and used by millions of people around the world!
The Senior Ruby Engineer will report to FilmFreeeway’s General Manager.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead feature development while managing timelines and stakeholder expectations
- Collaborate with designers and product developers to conceptualize and build new features end-to-end
- Design, write and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby and JavaScript code
- Establish processes to ensure maintainability of new code; upgrade old code to new standards via refactor and replacement
- Write automated tests to ensure proper code coverage for new features
- Plan, develop, upgrade, and maintain current and future infrastructure and frameworks
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues while coordinating with the Support team to deliver the best possible user experience
- Monitor system instrumentation to optimize performance
- Investigate and implement new web development technologies and best practices, as applicable
- Identify any bottlenecks or bugs in the system and devise solutions
- Work in a collaborative environment where you will need to coordinate with and mentor other team members and department
What we’re looking for from you:
- Demonstrated prior experience leading feature development (delegating, code reviews, overseeing projects to completion) and shipping software in a professional team setting
- Strong project management skills; ability to create timelines, prioritize tasks, and communicate with stakeholders
- Familiarity with project management software such as JIRA to manage tasks and coordinate with others
- 8+ years of experience working with Ruby on Rails
- Demonstrated ability to create and improve well-architected, readable code that conforms to established best practices and RESTful principles
- Deep knowledge of the standard Ruby library
- Experience upgrading Ruby on Rails (RoR) between major versions
- 4+ years of experience using ReactJS or a comparable frontend framework for building user forms and interactions
- Knowledge of responsive styling using CSS and preprocessors like SCSS and SASS</li>
- Experience with ElasticSearch and full-text indexing of content
- Experience with caching solutions such as Memcached and Redis
- Experience integrating with third-party payment solutions such as Stripe, PayPal, and Dwolla
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, including security and deployment best practices, EC2, S3, RDS, Elasticache, Elastic Transcoder, and OpenSearch
- Experience managing Linux servers from “fresh install” to “running production stable”; ability to provision systems using Ansible and comfortable with command-line tools
- Experience monitoring and managing the WAF firewall and network optimization through Cloudflare
- Experience creating small utilities through AWS lambda or Cloudflare workers
- Ability to implement automated testing of your code, particularly integration testing via Selenium / Capybara
- Competency working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL) and experience designing database schema, particularly in relation to Ruby on Rails / ActiveRecord.
- Familiarity working with mass email systems such as Sendgrid
- Experience writing both client and server side (Node.js) Javascript
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
The compensation range for this position is:
$150,000—$180,000 USD

The Role:
Backstage is seeking a remote Senior Frontend Engineer to join our passionate web team. Our frontend web team consists of six engineers, and includes mid and senior level engineers, a tech lead, and an engineering manager. This team is a part of Backstage’s larger product and engineering department, which numbers approximately thirty high-performance engineers, designers, product managers, analysts, and quality assurance resources. Our process is a modified Kanban process with the goal of delivering incremental value to the customer. Products are workshopped and then broken into milestones, with estimates driven by engineers, not managers. We uphold autonomy and trust our engineers to pick the best tools suited for their tasks, while working collaboratively towards mutual goals. In line with our goal to continue delivering value to the customer, we release multiple times a day, every day, and adhere to a robust QA and code review process before any code is released.
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will be working with cutting edge technology and new product development in a stable and rapidly growing company. The Senior Frontend Engineer will report to the Frontend Director of Engineering
What You’ll Do:
- Partner with product, marketing, business intelligence, and design teams to create beautiful, usable interfaces for desktop and mobile web
- Design engineering plans to meet the requirements of the product or goal
- Leverage a modern tech stack, including TypeScript and React, to build complex web applications
- Contribute to and influence the overall frontend architecture decisions
- Work closely with product, marketing, and customer service to translate customer feedback into successful features and tools
- Collaborate with front-end engineers outside your feature team to maintain shared code and front-end infrastructure
- Coordinate with back-end engineers to provide a cohesive experience
What we’re looking for from you:
- Proven experience building a major product or feature from scratch at scale for a large public-facing web application
- Advanced proficiency with Typescript and React
- Proficient with CSS. Experience with TailwindCSS is a plus.
- Deep understanding of various state management and data fetching approaches in the React ecosystem.
- Knowledgeable of the trade-offs of different rendering techniques (server-side-rendering, static-site-generation, client-side rendering)
- Familiarity with common front-end build tools such as Webpack and Vite
- Experience incrementally rolling out new features, components or refactors without blocking the rest of the team, and iterating upon and maintaining live products
- Strong project management skills; able to organize, adhere to process, and execute projects across disciplines and by deadline
- Excellent communication skills; you can articulate clearly, thoroughly, and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfortability with the entire development life cycle (inception to release) in an Agile environment
- Collaborative, engaged, and adaptable; you are comfortable joining a team with a large, mature codebase with established engineering processes
- Flexible and proactive, you’re able to shift gears quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Python and/or Django a plus

Salary Range ($200,000 – $265,000)
The salary for this role is dependent on geographic location. The salary offered within the range described will be based on the inidual candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
