Social Media Communications Specialist

Job Overview:

Community Solutions is a field catalyst that supports cities and counties that are proving that homelessness is solvable. Through an initiative known as Built for Zero, we support local leaders and teams to harness the power of systems change to reduce and end homelessness. Our strategic plan recognizes that communications is a critical vehicle for accelerating our collective progress toward a future where homelessness is rare and brief. Our team works directly with communities, helping them leverage communications as a mechanism for addressing barriers and untapping opportunities, and works to nationally change discourse and accountability for population-level reductions in homelessess. We believe that sharing knowledge is critical to driving behavior change and seeding new expectations of what is possible. In order to support that work, your job will be to harness the power of social media to measurably shift public discourse to reflect the reality that homelessness is a solvable, systems problem.

Community Solutions is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, proactive, innovative Social Media Communications Specialist with a record for implementing a strategy for digital media that delivers measurable results. The Social Media Communications Specialist will report to the Digital Media Strategist.

The Community Solutions’ Communications department is dedicated to establishing new expectations, behaviors, and conditions so that homelessness is both understood and treated as solvable. In support of our Built for Zero initiative, we work with communities, newsmakers, policymakers, and our core partners to showcase the progress of the movement to end homelessness and create public accountability for ending homelessness.

We recognize that social media is a critical lane for advancing a new narrative and understanding, and engaging key constituents to expand our field of champions. The Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to implement and manage the social media communications plan and foster social media communities and relationships. This role will work closely with the team dedicated to content to inform our social, newsletter, and dissemination strategies.

Defining Success for this Position:

  • Execute a social media strategy that shifts discourse — as measured in part by share of voice — toward homelessness as a solvable problem.
  • Coordinate across the team to ensure that the organization’s social media channels remain responsive, innovative, collaborative, and engaging while promoting homelessness as a solvable problem.
  • Continuous monitoring and analysis that generates a strong understanding of our audiences, the social media landscape, and opportunities to expand our impact.
  • Grow engaged audiences across channels. Create champions and engage influencers within our social media community.
  • Engage social audiences and community partners in social media actions, such as Twitter chats, Instagram Lives, etc.
  • Design, implement, and maintain an external, weekly email newsletter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Impactful execution of multichannel campaigns

  • Own the social execution of our digital campaign strategy, delivering results to expand the share of social discourse around the solvability of homelessness.
  • Partner with communities, core partners, and sector organizations to collaboratively execute campaigns that center homelessness as a solvable, systems problem.
  • Contribute to the development of thoughtful and engaging social media and email newsletter content strategies. The Social Media Communications Specialist will be responsible for maintaining Community Solutions Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn accounts, as well as the Built for Zero Facebook and Twitter accounts.
  • Support the Digital Media Strategist on the execution of paid social media ads, as needed.

Expanded and engaged audiences

  • Manage day-to-day social media operations for Community Solutions and Built for Zero, including maintaining the social media calendar, posting content, community management, and ensuring content accessibility.
  • Work with Digital Media Strategist and Creative Director to develop shareable, engaging content for social that promotes key messages and information.
  • Understand and engage social audiences and significantly grow this community.
  • Contribute to the production of social media toolkits to be shared with internal and external stakeholders to help amplify relevant events and projects.

Monitoring, learning, and improvement

  • Provide weekly reporting on key metrics, key learnings, and actionable insights. Monitor quality assurance of weekly share of voice.
  • Research, explore, and test new ideas to expand digital presence through social media.
  • As needed, support efforts to evaluate when social channels should be retired, and/or when new channels should be explored.
  • Capture and help disseminate learnings on community campaign efforts.
  • Maintain a clear archive of used digital assets.
  • Help support our communications efforts through various administrative supports, such as optimizing social previews in WordPress, monitoring the Comms inbox, supporting newsletters, and adding staff bios to the website.

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience overseeing organizational social accounts
  • Knowledge of best practices for social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.
  • Knowledge of best practices for email newsletter platforms, such as Campaign Monitor.
  • Excellent social listening skills
  • Strong strategic thinker with a passion for understanding data and using it for improvement
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong, organized multitasker
  • Zeal for continuous learning and improvement
  • A belief that homelessness can and must be solved

Salary Range: $62,191-$77,739

Work Environment:

  • The position may work remotely from anywhere in the US.
  • Between 5 to 7 days of travel may be required every 6 months to attend team retreats and other on-site trainings or convenings. Most travel is to major cities around the U.S., including current Built for Zero communities.
