Pollen’s Mission

Pollen is a software and education company rooted in the belief that everyone should be able to control their own economic outcomes. We start with our first product that helps aspiring freelance entrepreneurs manage their businesses through financial dashboards made for freelancers, assessments, and accountability features. Our vision is to become the SBA for the future of work.

Pollen is led by Hillary Bush (MasterClass, Kiva, Bungalow) and is backed by the industry’s leading investment firms: Founder Collective, XYZ Venture Partners and angel investors from Trilogy Education, b12, and more.

The position

We are looking for our founding designer. You are an experienced UX and Product Designer who loves going deep into customer needs and bringing things to life. You enjoy working with engineers and other product owners, and are a fan of quick iterative feedback cycles.

To be successful, you will have a passion for the customer and will rapidly iterate on the first version of our product. You will be responsible for creating low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, design systems and user research best practices.

Importantly, as one of our earliest team members, you are excited to actively shape Pollen’s culture and how we work together.

Ideal qualifications

  • 4+ years experience in UX design, product design, and design management in startups.
  • Experience and passion in starting and running user research processes.
  • Proficiency with Figma.
  • You consistently deliver delightful experiences and UX for our customers.
  • Can move extremely quickly to create rough mockups and get them in front of users for feedback.
  • High user empathy and a passion for creating products that customers love.
  • Well versed in taking a product from 0 to 1 and scaling design systems to support a growing team.
  • Self-starter and owner mentality; you are highly collaborative, identify problems, and create solutions with limited oversight.
  • Excited about shaping the culture and outcomes of an early stage organization.
  • Excellent product sense and taste for good design.

Bonus points

  • You are in NYC or able to come here for team off sites.
  • You have experience with rapidly prototyping working products.
  • You can build working products with low-code / no-code tools like Webflow, Bubble, etc and are proficient at HTML / CSS.
  • You have build component libraries and design systems from scratch before.
  • Have scaled products to hundreds of thousands of users.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the team and early customers to influence and execute our strategy and plan.
  • Visualize ideas and concepts that arise from user research.
  • Quickly develop production-ready designs.
  • Spearhead user research initiatives and rapidly generate new insights to inform designs.
  • Build our design system, tech stack, and processes.
  • Make key architectural decisions that will serve as the pillars for the product experience.
  • Talk to customers, tease out use cases, and influence prioritization decisions. We are a customer-centric company.
  • Go beyond your role and solve problems as they come up. We value an ownership mentality that focuses on delivering the best experience possible for customers.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and equity (commensurate with experience)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Benefits and health insurance
  • Opportunity to be on the ground level of an exciting opportunity with a talented and mission-driven team
  • Pollen is a remote-first company but you will have to be available on US-friendly hours.
