PRPL’s Design Director leads our creative team, ensuring the agency always puts its best foot forward visually. This inidual uses their experience, talent, and creative intuition to push our work to new places and bring our clients' ideas to life. They have a passion for bringing new products to market and know what it takes to get the next big project off the ground.

They are known for their killer design aesthetic and are able to cast a vision for designers working across enterprise-level web, brand and product design. The design director inspires our creative team to imagine new ways of bringing digital experiences to life through beautiful design, innovative interaction, and engaging content. The ideal candidate will influence the agency in using design to connect brands to their customers. 

Reports To: VP of Operations

Responsibilities

Department Vision and Growth

  • Continually aim to grow the Creative department in support of the larger company goal of becoming a consultative agency. Keep an eye on ensuring there is an appropriate team hierarchy and structure to support growth.
  • Provide thought leadership to PRPL by staying at the forefront of holistic design thought and practice.
  • Partner with other department leads to build a vision for new products working with PMO, Strategy, and Development.
  • Support and promote the use of Friends of PRPL to augment our team’s talent and skills where possible. Collaborate with other department leaders to develop and evolve processes that support and expand the use of outside/contract-based labor.

Department Management

  • Possesses an intimate grasp of design, copy and web best practices and ensures that the creative team maintains a high level of quality in their work. 
  • You can build trust and guide clients through our creative process. You have the ability to define and establish digital processes that align with both client and internal needs.
  • You have a solid understanding of UX design principles and prototyping tools, and an equally polished portfolio showcasing your UI/visual design capabilities. 
  • Set internal annual and quarterly goals for the Creative Department per the Traction process.
  • Drive performance and profitability optimizations for the department.
  • Challenge and ensure each Creative team member stays within estimated hours per project and in turn, monitor their project teams in the same fashion. 
  • Work with Operations/Leadership to determine and provide an incentive for projects completed within budget. (Example: additional PTO days, cash bonus, etc)
  • Oversee and provide guidance on staffing/resourcing allocations for the Creative team in conjunction with the Manager of Production and Resourcing and the VP of Operations.
  • Promote, encourage, and evangelize the PRPL process. 
  • Conduct team member performance reviews and assist in their personal growth and career planning
  • Provide active team leadership and mentorship to all Creative team members. Build up the department’s next generation of leaders. 
  • Assist in the onboarding of new Friends of PRPL as needed to support the department. 

Sales Support

  • Partner with the sales team to define holistic strategic solutions for potential and existing clients.
  • Effectively scope projects and during the sales process 

Qualifications

  • You have 10+ years of digital design experience working at a creative agency, startup, or similar environment. 
  • 3+ years in previous leadership roles and can effectively oversee the quality and efficacy of our digital team's work.
  • Proficiency with Apple products including but not limited to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers
  • An online portfolio that demonstrates strong, varied design and interactive work
  • Expert knowledge of design software and workflows, including Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Firm understanding of the cross-platform responsive patterns, usability heuristics, web technologies, and accessibility
  • Strong grasp of user experience design, information architecture, and prototyping 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with or without supervision
  • Functional knowledge of iWork (particularly Keynote) and Microsoft Office
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
