Chief of Partnerships and Communications

Equis is a set of organizations working to create a better understanding of Latinos, innovate new approaches to reach and engage them, invest in the leadership and infrastructure for long-term change and increased engagement. Since 2019, we have served as a hub of Latino polling, qualitative insights, and data, with analysis based on a large set of interviews, focus groups, online journals, ethnographies, and vote simulations. Equis is a leader in digital innovation, focused on message testing and experiments, anti-disinformation tracking, and digital capacity-building for grassroots groups. Equis is also committed to developing Latino leaders across the progressive space, serving as a convener of organizations and iniduals leading Hispanic-focused programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Equis Chief of Staff, Equis is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief of Partnerships and Communications to lead strategy development and implementation of external communications and partnerships work. Partnerships and communication is core to the success of Equis and our mission. A successful candidate will have experience in national leadership roles, strong relationships across the Latino/progressive/political ecosystem, experience managing communications and/or narrative strategy, as well as be a strong organizational + team manager and leader.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Design and implement Equis' external partnerships and communications strategy to strengthen and expand Latino infrastructure advancing our mission of investing in the leadership and infrastructure for long-term engagement of Latinos through research, innovation, relationships and thought leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships and develop initiatives for relationship building, cultivation and leadership development through the advancement of key narratives across the political spectrum.
  • Maintain and expand Equis relationships across the political spectrum - from Members of Congress, Administration, to key leaders across other organizations and institutions.
  • Support strategy development of Moonshot projects, acting as a thought partner and potential manager of project directors.

Press and External Communications

  • Design and implement press strategy based on Equis' long-term goals and objectives and serve as spokesperson on behalf of Equis in both Spanish and English language media.
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan, focused on building Latinx movement, civic engagement, and political infrastructure and response.
  • Develop strategy for deploying other influencers and spokespeople in advancement of the Latino narrative.
  • Arrange and attend press conferences, and media appearances in both Spanish and English language as required. Manage Press Secretary and other communications consultants.
  • Support larger narrative project related to Latino power and influence

Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of the Equis leadership team, working closely with executive leadership to develop systems and strategies that strengthen Equis' role as a thought leader in the industry.
  • Manage a growing partnerships team, including Equis's Director of Program Implementation, responsible for advancing implementation of our research with core and strategy partners through a robust cycle of engagement.
  • Working alongside the Chief of Moonshots Strategy, and Equis leadership team, support the development of long-term Latino narrative infrastructure that includes shaping messaging strategy at the state and national level and narrative dissemination about Latino political power and influence.
  • Develops systems with the Chief of Staff to strengthen and streamline internal workflows related to partnerships and communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10-12 years of advanced campaign, communications and partnerships experience
  • Strong staff management experience with direct oversight and execution over strategy and program within high-level political, corporate, or cultural organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ideas into strategy and action.
  • At least 5 years of direct experience (preferably on the record) working with press and reporters, with a track record of successfully advancing/shifting key narratives.
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership managing high level relationships that yield long-term results and deep knowledge of the nuances along with relationships across the progressive ecosystem (national and state based).
  • Outstanding collaboration skills with erse audience groups.
  • History and understanding of political nuances and deep familiarity with the societal, cultural, and political landscape of the Hispanic and Latino community.
  • Demonstrated history of proactive attitude and high degree of self-direction; with a history of positively collaborating with high-level principals.
  • Deep understanding of and experience in connecting interlocking strategies in program implementation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate priorities, needs and expectations
  • Experience in facilitating short, mid, and long-term project development with detail oriented program management while addressing sensitive timelines, deadlines, and competing priorities
  • Comfortable in the fast paced environment
  • Comprehensive ability to communicate in Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of advanced experience in partnerships, communications, campaign
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • 5+ years demonstrated “on the record” experience with press, reporters, and media relations
  • Experience utilizing ClickUp, Google Suites software
  • Fluency in Spanish, including ability to deliver Spanish language interviews

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a fully remote (USA only), full time position with occasional domestic travel and a competitive salary range of $140,000-$165,000 per year. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what Equis may pay for this position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as budget availability and commensurate with the selected candidates' experience. Equis offers medical, dental, vision coverage ( at no premium), 4% employer match 401K, and excellent vacation, sick and personal leave.
