< class="h1">Description

A UX contractor's primary focus is to support Sparkbox's Experience Design team members by providing insights and strategy on our projects. Each contractor will work closely with a Sparkbox UX Strategist or Design Director and could be asked to participate in various tasks from initial research and recommendations to defining the direction through wireframes and testing.

A UX contractor is expected to help guide the user-centered mindset for the project, providing insights and completing various usability tests, wireframe planning,  and assessments. They will help influence decisions that result in user-focused solutions that meet accessibility standards and best practices while accomplishing the project's goals.

With the support of the Sparkbox team, a contractor will help establish the experience strategy and is responsible for articulating research findings, UX recommendations, and reasoning to both internal and external teams. Sparkbox may also request assistance in other tasks such as facilitating interviews, brainstorming sessions, audits, assessments, wireframes, sitemaps, taxonomy, mapping, or analyses.

Contractors are seen as a team extension and are expected to follow the attitude and communication expectations of any Sparkbox employee. Each contractor will closely work with all project team members to provide feedback and education, further infusing user-centered thinking throughout the team. They encourage others' ideas and help educate the team on best practices and testing techniques.

< class="h3">Engagement Structure

The engagement structure between you, as a contractor, and Sparkbox will depend on project needs. However, expectations will be clearly negotiated and communicated through a contract process.

Though each engagement is unique, we anticipate most contracts to include expectations similar to the following:

  • Contractor will commit to 15-25 hours per week while engaged on a Sparkbox project, recording hours in Sparkbox time tracking software, and will invoice for time recorded weekly.
  • Contractor will be paid a flat hourly rate, plus approved expenses and travel as necessary and directed by Sparkbox.
  • Contractor will work under the direction of a Sparkbox employee and will abide by Sparkbox's code of conduct.
  • Contractor may be required to undergo a background check and drug test if required by our contract with the end client.
  • Sparkbox will attempt to provide long-term estimates of the time required of contractors but will provide final hourly commitments weekly.
