Vero is a multi-channel messaging platform built for the modern data stack. Modern marketing and product teams all over the world use Vero to automate communications with hundreds of millions of end-users.
With nearly a decade's experience in this space Vero is undergoing a transformation that is putting it on an exciting new trajectory. We've recently launched a new take on our product: a version that sits directly on top of customers' data platforms like Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake and more. This is a massive shift that gives teams easier access to their data, faster and for less cost.
Vero is looking for a Senior Site Reliability/Platform Engineer to join us on our journey and to help us build the future of messaging automation.
As a company, Vero works hard to ensure a friendly and empathetic working environment. We aim for as little politics and ego as possible, we believe in inclusivity and work to understand and support each other at every turn. We're proud of our culture and if these values sound on point to you, we'd love to hear from you!
About the role
We’re looking for a senior platform engineer to architect, develop and manage our infrastructure. Along with the other members of our platform team you will be responsible for the reliability, security and scalability of our infrastructure.
You will have strong practical experience with AWS, Docker and Terraform. You have real world experience with real-time, event-driven data pipelines and technologies such as Kafka. You have experience in scaling SQL-based data stores such as PostgreSQL (Amazon RDS, Aurora).

Responsibilities
- Implement changes that improve the stability and reliability of our existing platform. Think ahead and build for the future as opposed to bandaid fixes for today. We aim to balance “getting things done” with work that improves our velocity and long-term outcomes.
- Build robust, easy-to-use foundational platforms and tools that enable engineering teams to provision services rapidly, consistently, and securely.
- Develop tools and applications that use clean, efficient code, ensuring code quality and standards.
- Be part of our on-call rotation, owning the EU hours 9am-5pm CET, and respond to operational incidents during on-call hours.

- You have excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate on ideas.
Requirements
Must-haves:
- Experience and strong interest in databases and data storage (PostgreSQL, Redshift), key-value stores, messaging, and distributed systems.
- Experience delivering projects at scale and making sound engineering choices to set us up for future growth and success.
- Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.
- A strong fundamental understanding of backend components such as databases, web protocols and networking.
- Coding/scripting knowledge in Bash, Ruby, Python, Java or a C-based language.

- Experience working in remote teams.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with Go or Rust.
- BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related degree.
- Contributions to major open source projects.
Benefits
- Competitive salary. We pay in the top quartile, based on Sydney (AU) salary data wherever you are located. Sydney has a similar cost of living to cities like Tel Aviv, Austin, Portland, Oslo and more: making it very competitive. We pay everyone the same, regardless of geography.
- Flexible work. Work in the way that produces your best results. Many of our team members work from home one day a week, others come to the office every day and many are completely remote. We’re committed to helping you feel like you can be the happiest and most productive you.
- Yearly team conference. We host an annual team conference to get together as a team, challenge the status-quo and expand our vision for the future.
- Parental leave. We offer a generous parental leave policy.
Vero is an equal opportunity employer. We are a participant in programs like Project F's Program 50/50 and are endorsed by Australia's Work180. Hi, I'm Ajay, and I run GMass, a popular email automation platform. We've grown every single year and we're finally at the point where I want to offload the handling of our email deliverability work onto someone else.
Want to ease my workload? This is a technical role that requires a deep understanding of how email is sent and received. You should already be an expert with SMTP, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. It's strange, because I've interviewed dozens of candidates over the years who claim these protocols on their resume but then can't answer even the most fundamental questions about email authentication. You should understand the factors that affect email deliverability and how to resolve them or work around them. GMass sends 5-7 million emails daily on behalf of tens of thousands of daily active users, and it will be your job to ensure that every single one of them lands in the Inbox.
Just kidding! If anyone ever requires that of you, run far away.
Issues we encounter on a regular basis:- A user is claiming that it's our fault that their emails are going to Spam. Is it actually our fault?
- A domain or IP has been blacklisted. Need to figure out a solution.
- We've received an abuse complaint AWS, and we have 24 hours to respond or they start shutting down our EC2 instances.
- A domain used for click tracking has ended up on the Google Safe Browsing list. Uh oh, the red screen of death!
- The SendGrid compliance department says our mail stream doesn't conform to their policies.
Technical skills that you should have:
- You have a deep understanding of how email is sent.
- You should understand the SMTP protocol.
- You should have a thorough understanding of email authentication protocols like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
- You understand the DNS system and its impact on email.
- You know how to query databases. You don't need to be a full fledged DBA, but the more SQL you know, the better, because then you can analyze deliverability trends across the whole system.
- You understand Inbox vs Promotions vs Spam placement and factors that impact it.
- You've worked with transactional email services like SendGrid, Mailgun, Mandrill, and Amazon SES.
What would make you a dream candidate
You've demonstrated thought leadership and original insight into email deliverability issues. You regularly publish your thoughts. You've been a postmaster for an Email Service Provider before. Your writing is so good that we are comfortable sending your article to our 1M+ user list. What probably doesn't make you qualified
You've run a mail server out of your basement where you've hosted email for family and friends. While that gives you some understanding of email servers, it doesn't give you the deep experience needed for troubleshooting delivery issues and coming up with creative solutions to blocking. Long gone are the days where to unblock an IP, you just fill out a form on the blacklist's site and voila! -- problem solved.More about me:
I created GMass seven years ago, and I love the system, company, and user base. I believe GMass has a shot at becoming a tech household name. I live in Dayton, Ohio with my wife and kids. I work a lot, because I love my work. You can find me on Twitter at @PartTimeSnob. I'm on LinkedIn too but not as active there as on Twitter: https://linkedin.com/in/ajaygoel999Ready to rescue me?
I prefer you send me an email directly to ajay AT wordzen DOT com, and tell me about yourself and how you fit with this role. The subject line can be whatever you like, but please include the word "deliverability" in it so I don't miss your email. My policy is that if you put effort into your email to me, you'll get a response from me.Compensation:
This is a high-level, full-time position. We don't set traditional salary ranges for open roles. Rather, we aim for the role to offer you the highest compensation you've ever had.

We’re hiring a senior development operations administrator at Merit for the first time. It’s a really good job for the right person.
Before explaining what we’re looking for, let us tell you about Merit and what it’s like to work here. We’re a small company that created and sells a cool, unusual software product to the marketing departments of colleges. We’re planning a complementary new product, too, that has applications to a much broader market and represents an exciting new opportunity. We’re proud of what we’ve made, and how we sell it, and how we support it. Clients know our team by name and like us (or they’re indifferent, but renew their annual subscriptions at a 90%+ rate). We don’t think we’re taking over the world, or disrupting anything, or moving fast and breaking things. We’re doing good work with colleagues we respect and like, too.
Merit is a very “flat” organization, management-wise, so we hire people who are independent and self-directed. None of us is a super-specialist in anything (though each of us is better at some things, which we’re responsible for), so we tend to hire generalists in their fields. Ideally, you’re broadly good at dev-ops but perhaps have other stuff you like to do and can add special expertise at.
One of our team once said we were “an island of misfit toys” (a la Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer). That means we look past résumés and credentials, which can lead to hiring unconventional people. We really encourage people from erse backgrounds and identities to apply for this job because you’ll find a place that welcomes and values the perspective you bring to our work.
There’s more about our policies and benefits below, but here are some of the characteristics of who we’re hoping will work with us:
You have a strong curiosity about technology in general. By now you may have curated a specific set of tools for your industry (including workstation and OS preferences) which we are happy to accommodate. We’re a small development team so we’re regularly having to learn about and become experts in new things. We care about your curiosity, eagerness to learn, and history of working independently more than your “passion” for systems administration. Managing systems in your free time, side projects, and GitHub portfolios are not necessary.
- You have the demonstrable experience, ability and interest to move us toward solutions for infrastructure as code, configuration as code, continuous integration, and continuous delivery/deployment. Our current infrastructure is cloud-based with Terraform provisioning and Ansible configuration with potential to move toward platform as a service.
- You are skilled with those existing technologies of ours and can also lead the continuous integration/delivery/deployment initiative for our Ruby on Rails code-base.
- Your experience should include professionally administering GNU/Linux-based systems focused on supporting web applications and surrounding services, and have a familiarity with the work in the above first bullet points.
- Experience with supporting aspects of platform engineering, such as Python/Golang programming and Bash scripting are highly welcomed.
We pay as well as we can given our size and location; as far as we can tell, it’s competitive. We offer a platinum health care plan (Blue Shield PPO) and pick up 100% of the premiums for you and your family. We also match 3% of your salary in your retirement plan contribution, provide paid parental leave, and insist you take a lot of vacation (it’s an unlimited policy, which often means people don’t take enough out of social pressure, but our president, Colin, will actively pressure you to take time off).
Balance is important to us. Taking the time you need for community, connection, and commitments outside of work is encouraged. We’re against mandatory face time, are light on meetings, and focus on what you contribute and how well you do that as a colleague more than anything else. We're very remote-friendly but we hope you’ll let us bring you to World HQ once or twice a year if you're up for it.
If you’re interested, the most important thing to send us is a good letter or e-mail. Good, strong writing is an excellent signal for good, strong thinking and we can learn a lot more about you from what you write us than we will from your résumé (but please send that, too, for specifics and context). We will respond to every application we get that has a custom letter.
We’re all genuinely excited to hear from you and learn more about you!

We are planning to overhaul our VPN infrastructure with a new server build to radically improve the transparency of our service. We are looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer who is excited by the opportunity to build a secure, high performance network of VPN servers from the ground-up using open-source software and many layers of security technologies. The position is fully remote with high level of autonomy and requires that you thrive in this type of environment.**
What you will work on**- You will help research and develop a new server architecture for our VPN gateways that is open, immutable, diskless and secure. You will be expected to design this from the ground up whilst consulting with various members of our team.
- When the build is ready for production, you will be responsible for the initial provisioning of servers, from procurement to building and final distribution to data centers. Depending on the requirements, we will hire additional staff to assist with this stage, ie. travel might not be required.
- Once the new infrastructure is in production, it will operate in parallel with our existing one, until it has proven itself and we have a clear migration path. You will be expected to work together with our existing infrastructure team on this migration, and will be responsible for managing and improving the infrastructure going forward.
**
What can you expect**- We work in a fully remote setting with a high degree of independence. This means maximum freedom, minimum meetings.
- If your ideal workplace offers regular meetups and busy chat channels, IVPN is probably not a good fit for you. On the other hand, if you value autonomy and focused work, you will appreciate our culture.
- We offer 25 days of vacation per year, the hardware of your choice to do your job, plus ample budget for your research projects.
**
How we stand out from the crowd of VPN providers**- Early adopters of the latest protocols and technologies (like WireGuard) to improve our service.
- Strict ethical stances around data collection and marketing practices - principles over profits.
- Clear commitment to regular audits and transparency.
- Calling out bad practices in the VPN industry and shunning false promises.
- Recommended by experts whose voice we truly value - those not motivated by affiliate payouts.
Experience required
- Strong understanding and interest in InfoSec, specifically with regards to cryptographic controls used on servers e.g. Public key crypto, reproduceable builds, TPM.
- 5+ years experience managing Linux servers.
- 5+ years experience with Python, Go or other scripting language.
Nice to haves
- Experience with PXE boot.
- Experience with firmware development.

Hi, I'm Ajay, and I'm tired.
For the past seven years, I've been managing 75 servers across AWS, a dozen more at various other providers, trying to keep my users' emails out of Spam, studying SPF and DMARC records, fighting with my overloaded IIS servers, tuning ridiculously complex SQL queries, figuring out how to stop my 5 TB database from growing so fast, all the while building new features and fixing bugs for my SaaS platform. I run GMass, a popular email automation platform. We've grown every single year and we're finally at the point where I want to offload the management of our systems onto someone else. Want to ease my pain? First, let me tell you about the tech environment GMass is built on. 90% of our infrastructure is hosted at AWS, and 10% is hosted across several more traditional hosting companies. In total, there are about 85 servers, including lots of IIS web servers, a couple SQL Servers, one MySQL server, and a bunch of SMTP servers. Most of our backend code is in C#/.NET Standard, but our front-end, which is a Chrome extension, is JavaScript. The overarching goals of this position is to make sure GMass is always up and running and emails are getting delivered in a timely manner. Issues we encounter on a regular basis:- Our senders are overwhelmed and sending too slowly. Need to fire up some more servers.
- A domain or IP has been blacklisted. Need to figure out a workaround.
- An IIS server isn't responding fast enough. Diagnose.
- A disk on a critical server is about to fill up.
- An abuser has penetrated our network and needs to be stopped.
- We've received an abuse complaint from an upstream provider, and we have 24 hours to respond.
Technical skills that you should have:
- You have a deep understanding of how email is sent
- You know how to manage an IIS server
- You know how to query databases. You don't need to be a full fledged DBA, but the more you know, the better.
- You understand email deliverability and factors that impact it.
- You have a thorough understanding of the DNS system.
- You're already familiar with AWS.
There's an element of email deliverability to this role. You should be well versed in these protocols:
- SPF
- DKIM
- DMARC
- SMTP
Bonus points if you've worked with transactional email services like SendGrid, Mailgun, Mandrill, and Amazon SES. DevOps? You'll notice that this is a "sysadmin" role rather than a DevOps role. While there are elements of engineering and development that will make this role easier, it still falls better within the scope of a sysadmin role. More about me:I created GMass seven years ago, and I love the system, company, and user base. I believe GMass has a shot at becoming a tech household name. I live in Dayton, Ohio with my wife and kids. I work a lot, because I love my work. You can find me on Twitter at @PartTimeSnob. I'm on LinkedIn too but not as active there as on Twitter: https://linkedin.com/in/ajaygoel999
Ready to rescue me?
I prefer you send me an email directly to ajay AT wordzen DOT com, and tell me about yourself and how you fit with this role. The subject line can be whatever you like, but please include the word "sysadmin" in it so I don't miss your email. My policy is that if you put effort into your email to me, you'll get a response from me.

_As an author for Baeldung, you’ll work within a team of authors and editors that will provide guidance and feedback on your articles and code.
Our writing guidelines are important to ensure a good quality of the article, as well as consistency across articles. Here are the formatting, code, and writing guidelines we use:
The publishing process starts with you choosing a topic to work on (we have a list of open topics you can choose from, or you can suggest your own). You’ll then work with an editor to create an outline and provide a draft and supporting code.
The editor will help you get your articles over the finish line. They’re going to do reviews, offer guidance with technical and language feedback, and generally be helpful.
Once the article is ready, we hit publish.
As for how quickly you’d like to write – that’s fully up to you. For example, we have great authors publishing one article weekly, and we have authors publishing an article every month or so.
Budgets
The budget for each article is based on your author level and the number of words.
Here are some typical budgets used by authors:
- Level 12 – 750 words – 80$
- Level 12 – 1000 words – 85$
- Level 15 – 750 words – 88$
- Level 15 – 1000 words – 92$
The level is based on the feedback from your editors on 3 metrics: writing, technical, and communication. When you start, you’ll be at level 1, then you’ll progress as you improve (the max level is 20).
Basically, the better the quality of your writeups, the higher the payment will be.
Here’s the full list of budget levels on the site.
Applying
Before applying, you should have at least a couple of years of experience working as a developer or actively involved in the Linux ecosystem. The articles will be code-centric, so being in the trenches and able to code is instrumental.

And we generally handle payments via Paypal.

**
Salary Range**$60 - $80k per year
**
Position Type**Full-time contract

Location**We are remote-first but for this position you must be +/- 5 hours of UTC. You must be willing to overlap most of your day with leadership in the UK
Time zones: GMT (UTC +0), CET (UTC +1), EET (UTC +2), CVT (UTC -1)
We are looking for someone who likes creating stability and efficiency in a cloud environment. Someone who is versatile at the shell to debug weird network issues, but who hates snowflakes. Someone who likes developing tools that are used by other developers, and makes their lives easier. Someone who masters our cloud.
Whilst it is possible to run completely “server less” these days, that isn’t always practical for all applications. Thus we still run a moderate cloud stack on the Google Cloud Platform. As you can see in the description of our stack, we use Hashicorp’s tools for deployment. That means a Consul + Vault cluster, and Nomad to schedule (container) jobs. That actually runs stable without too much maintenance. Most of the work is in improving the experience of other developers, and making it easier for them to do the things they need to do on the operations side.
For example, we use Terraform to control and set up our resources. However that doesn’t mean that it is clear for everyone what to use and how to tie that together. Modularizing and documenting is key here. Also, we want to enable continuous integration, so everyone can see what the effect would be of their changes, without giving everyone the proverbial keys to the kingdom.
The rest of the team will look at you for advice on how to deploy their service, how to keep sight on its metrics and errors. Note that whilst you are probably the one with the most knowledge, we do rotate on-call duties with the whole team.
**Compensation
**The envisioned salary range for this position is €55-80k per year (excluding 8% holiday pay), depending on experience. Besides that we offer Stock Appreciation Rights and a 4% learning budget. You’ll get an Apple Macbook Pro (M1 or M2) to work on.
Required skills
- You have experience managing a cloud platform (GCP/AWS/OpenStack) from code.
- You are proficient in Python (or another server-side language like Go or Ruby, and willing to learn Python).
- You can design a “stack” for a new service so it is scalable and trustworthy.
- You have experience with container based deployment.
- You are able to work with a erse group of people. You’re not a rock star or code-ninja, you’re a human, of some form 🙂.
- You can clearly outline your thoughts about a technical solution in written form (and diagrams are always a bonus!)
- You actively engage with others to optimize processes and reduce bottlenecks.
- You are able to pick up new things quickly.
- You want to work 32 to 40 hours a week.
Wishlist
- You have experience with Hashicorp’s Consul, Vault & Nomad.
- You have experience with Terraform.

Hi, my name is Brad Touesnard. I’m the founder and CEO of SpinupWP, a modern cloud server control panel designed to manage WordPress sites and serve them lightning fast.
We are a small team of talented developers, designers, and marketers. There’s our dev team of Ashley, George, James, and Daniel; our designer Lewis; and our marketers Caillie and Sam. I have a background as an engineer, but these days I’m the product manager, CEO, and whatever other hats need wearing. I’m very proud to say that our company has been managing to delight thousands of customers, working from our homes since 2017.
We have big plans for the next 12 months and this is a great opportunity to join a small team of talented folks building an awesome product.
**The Job
**Our talented team of developers have re-invented the term “Full Stack Developer,” developing everything from Vue.js on the frontend to Ansible/Bash scripts for the workers. They also manage our SaaS app infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and handle technical support escalations.
The scope of their job is too broad and needs to be narrowed. That’s where you come in.
I’m looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer who will collaborate with our dev team. They will use their experience and expertise to help the dev team design and implement the app’s workers, manage our infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines, and take over as the primary contact for support escalations.
_(If that last part scares you, know that we only provide typical SaaS support, during our work hours Monday to Friday. No one is on call. We don’t provide 24×7 incident response or anything like that.)
_Responsibilities
- Help design and build new features using PHP (Laravel), Ansible and Bash
- Support our customers via email
- Monitor and maintain Linux servers
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines
- Write documentation
- Write articles and tutorials for our blog
Requirements
- 5+ years of DevOps experience supporting a complex SaaS web application
- Expert Linux sysadmin skills including maintenance, security, backups, monitoring, etc. (Ubuntu)
- Advanced Bash scripting skills
- Experience with infrastructure configuration management tools (Ansible)
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines
- Strong PHP development skills
- Knowledgeable in Web-Queue-Worker architecture
- Familiar with systems and networking (DNS, SSH, HTTP)
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written)
- Self-motivated and work well independently
- Love working remotely
Bonus Points
- Experience building a web app using Laravel
- Javascript development experience
- Experience with hosting WordPress
- Open source contributions
- Computer Science degree or equivalent
**
About You**You’re thrilled to work with the latest hotness tool, language or framework but also thrive working on a “fixer-upper” project. You respect old code, no matter how ugly it looks. You truly enjoy figuring out how old code works, refactoring it, and tackling the challenges that come with it. You have experience doing this type of work and know you love it.
You’re a problem solver who loves to analyze an issue, recreate it and track it back to the source of the problem. You won’t commit any code unless it’s fully tested and solves the problem. Better still, you write the tests to go with it.
You feel a profound sense of accomplishment after helping a customer resolve an issue that was frustrating them. You have a strong compulsion to help when people need it. It’s important to you that people get the best possible answer, not just a reply.
When you encounter something you’re not sure about, you stop, research, ask questions, and make sure, rather than giving it a best guess. The idea of sending incorrect information to a customer is mortifying and completely unacceptable to you.
You’re curious and love to learn. You embrace the opportunity to level up, learn something new and really dig into it. You’re a disciplined worker and have no trouble getting work done at home on any given day.
You value consistency above preference and will adopt new coding styles, standards, and tools to that end. You are stellar at identifying the simple, elegant solution in a sea of over-engineering possibilities.
Although you enjoy working with people to help you generate ideas and formulate a plan of attack on a project, you do your best work in isolation without interruption. You’re proactive in tackling things that need to be done without direction.
You’re exceptional at communicating in writing via direct message, email, etc. You’re ok on the phone and video chat too. You understand that clear, concise written communication is how remote teams thrive. People being confused by a message you’ve posted is extremely rare.
You own both successes and failures. When a project you’re leading turns into a disaster, you own it and you learn from it. You never point the finger at others.
You invite criticism and genuinely want to grow as a professional. You’re onboard with pushing each other to be better and are not afraid to give constructive criticism in addition to receiving it.
**
The Offer**- Remote First. We have always been a remote company, since the very start in 2012. Working from home has its challenges, but you’ll be surrounded by compassionate folks who have been successfully working from home for many years.
- Company Retreats. As a remote company, it’s super important to get some face time. We just had our first company retreat in a few years in San Diego, around WordCamp US 2022 and had a blast. Will you be joining us in 2023?
- Location Independent. Work from wherever you’re happiest. All members of our team currently work from their homes in Canada, the UK, the US, and Mexico.
- Choose Your Schedule. Most companies claim to have flexible hours, but the reality is often very different. We flex our hours for real 💪. As long as on average you’re working the number of hours you’ve committed to working each week, we’re good.
- Personal Development. If there’s a conference or event that will help you level up, the company will cover your expenses. You’re also allotted some time each month to learn something new unrelated to your job, participate in community discussions, and/or contribute to an open source project.
- Profit & Exit Sharing. I share a financial report with the team quarterly so everyone knows how the company is doing. And when the company does well, the team does well. When we sell the company, members of the team get a share of the proceeds based on their tenure.
- Company Holidays. Things get pretty quiet in late December / early January, so we always treat ourselves to a couple of weeks off to reboot during this time.
- Paid Leave. For the birth or adoption of a child, the company offers 8 weeks of 100% paid leave for primary caregivers and 3 weeks for secondary caregivers. We also offer 5 paid sick days and 3 days of paid bereavement leave.
- Health Insurance. Members of the team based in Canada are eligible for health/dental/life/disability insurance through the company’s Chambers of Commerce plan while those outside of Canada are eligible for a stipend to partially cover insurance costs.
- Competitive Salaries. The company typically pays salaries that are competitive with the market in which you reside. There are situations that call for higher pay even when living in a region with a lower cost of living, so we’re flexible on this.
**Apply
**I wrote this job posting like an informal message to you. Please reply to it in an email (no attachment letters please), introduce yourself, and let me know why you’re applying. Describe how you meet the Requirements, if you score any Bonus Points, if you’re the person I describe, and what’s on your resume that I ought not miss. Send your reply to [email protected].
We are an equal opportunity employer. Application information that is prone to unconscious biases is hidden during the review process whenever possible. We judge the content of the applications on their own without knowledge of the applicant’s race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, or age. We support workplace ersity, but not at the expense of equal opportunity and meritocracy. We’re looking for talented and empathetic people no matter their other attributes.
I look forward to reviewing your application.

Job Overview
Podchaser is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to be responsible for the ongoing configuration and maintenance of our existing stack including CI/CD pipelines, automating our software delivery processes and the general management and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure.
Working alongside our CTO and the rest of the engineering team, you'll develop and maintain container deployment, continuous integration, monitoring systems and performance troubleshooting, using your experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and Elasticsearch, as well as your ability to learn new technologies.
Responsible for our security management and infrastructure roadmap, this role is integral to our development work, ensuring our platform is compliant and secure.
You will be taking over for an outgoing employee, so there will be a handover period after which you will be expected to ensure that business can continue as usual, while also collaborating on new projects.
This is a senior role, and we are only considering applicants with significant DevOps experience - at least 5 years experience is desired.
This is a 100% remote position, our engineers can live and work anywhere in the world, though there will be a requirement of at least some overlapping work hours with Melbourne, Australia (GMT+10).
We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, as we believe a erse team leads to erse ideas and solutions!
Responsibilities
- Responsibility for our existing Kubernetes cluster and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring they are able to run smoothly with minimal downtime.
- Troubleshooting, performance tuning and optimisation of cloud-hosted applications and services in AWS, including cost optimisation.
- Adding additional microservice containers and supporting infrastructure and recommending how they can be integrated into the rest of our stack.
- Deploying new infrastructure as required for new projects and initiatives in a maintainable manner.
- Working with CTO to determine the infrastructure required for new projects, as well as improvements to existing infrastructure for performance benefits or cost reduction.
- Assisting with onboarding of new employees, ensuring they have a working dev environment and access to appropriate resources.
Skills & Requirements
- Deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting applications in production with Kubernetes.
- Configuring and implementing CI/CD pipelines on the appropriate tools - we are currently using Gitlab and don’t have any reason to change that so experience there will be a bonus.
- Building infrastructure on AWS
- Using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Managing Elasticsearch clusters, with a good understanding of the processes involved in adding nodes to scale horizontally, manage required computing and memory resources, configure Kibana, etc.
- Configuring and deploying NGINX to serve up a PHP backend.
- Configuring and deploying a NodeJS Express backend (currently using PM2) to handle a server rendered React application.
- General scripting skill to assist with automation and understand existing systems.
Qualities
- You can earn our trust by sharing your thoughts and making commitments, and you're willing to trust your teammates to do the same.
- You see your work all the way through to the end.
- You can debate with empathy.
- You are self-motivated, which means you handle your own time. This is a remote-only role, so it’s especially important that you are able to understand when a task is blocked by a colleague so you can use your time effectively elsewhere.
- You are not afraid to try new things, and you're enthusiastic about helping others learn and grow.
- You are pragmatic and can balance "textbook correctness" against practical reality.
- You can keep your eye on the goal, while communicating early and often throughout a sprint.
Perks of Working at Podchaser
- Fully distributed team - We have been remote since the beginning so have processes and systems already in place to ensure we are remote-friendly
- Flexible schedule - You know the times you work best so you can work a schedule that works best for you
- A positive, collaborative, and erse culture
Salary: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 USD per year
**Hello,
****How are you?
****I'm sure you've read hundreds of these job descriptions by now.
****I hope reading this one will be less painful.
****In short: We are growing our product team and looking for a versatile DevOps & Platform Developer.
****We're looking for someone to join our current 2 DevOps developers and help us grow our platform and DevOps systems.
**What might that look like?
**You'll be helping our application - and our team - scale. Initially you'd be taking over the general maintenance and scaling of our server infrastructure. ****What's our stack today?
****We use Google Cloud with their Kubernetes Engine for almost everything we do. Our backend applications are in a microservice architecture and are (almost) all PHP/Laravel applications. We utilized Google's hosted services for Postgres and Redis. All of the infrastructure itself is codified with Pulumi.
****Does that sound interesting? Would you enjoy that role?
**
**If so, please apply. I'd love to talk.
****A bit about us?
****We're a team of ~30
****We are fully remote.
****We don't micro manage.
****We don't do the startup grind thing (and we don't work weekends).
****You'd be working with a product team (not solo).
****We're building some cool stuff. Our product is growing like crazy right now.

We are looking for someone help us running devops and internal tooling. We currently use Terraform to deploy our application to AWS ECS. We have a good setup currently, and we have loads of ideas for where to take it, but we don't have enough time to invest in it whilst continuing to develop our product. That's where you come in. You should be able to take our ideas for where to improve, bring your own ideas to the table, and scale up and manage our infrastructure and internal tooling, taking ownership of the problem.
We are a remote-first company, with no central office. We meet up for offsite retreats bi-annually, previously we have skied near Tahoe and tasted wine in Sonoma. Our Employee Handbook is published here: github.com/EnzymeCorp/handbook
Enzyme is a Y Combinator company (YC S17) with industry traction; we are growing our team to keep up with demand. This is an opportunity to be an early engineer at a startup that has found its feet and shape the engineering culture, and you should have opinions on how to do that.
If you enjoy working with smart and kind people, want to work for a company with a goal to improve peoples' lives, and want an opportunity to both grow with a company and shape that company's growth, we want to hear from you.
Must-haves:
- AWS Expertise
- Terraform expertise, or extremely strong expertise with similar infrastructure-as-code tooling and confidence to come up to speed with terraform quickly
- Ability to write and deploy internal-facing tooling such as self-serve infrastructure dashboards for setting up new environments, metrics etc, in a language that you are comfortable with
- Willingness to be on-call Monday-Friday 8am-6pm Pacific around 50% of the time, arranged flexibly, and the ability to design and manage an infrastructure such that needing to actually be called for an incident is rare!
Nice-to-haves:
- We use Ruby and Elixir, so knowledge of or interest in these would be helpful.
- Experience working within life science or another regulated industry.
- Experience working within a distributed team
- CISSP Certification and Security Experience
