ABOUT THE JOB

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our Technical Writing Team. In this position, you will review new features with Product Management and develop product documentation and learning materials including user HTML based documentation, reference guides, design guides, installation manuals, help documents, code Snippets, and video-based overviews and tutorials. You will lead projects and mentor other writers. This position requires effective planning, scheduling, research, writing, and collaboration skills.

Ideal candidates will be self-starters, accountable, driven, ethical, hard-working, personable, and persistent. We are looking for someone who has been around web-based, multi-tiered systems. You do not need to be an expert in the software development lifecycle, financial reporting & budgeting systems, databases, programming languages, APIs and the like, but exposure is expected, and this is the world you will live in. You must be effective working independently and with a team.

Minimal travel required, typically once per quarter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Development, Quality Assurance, and Product Management teams to understand OneStream XF Marketplace solution features to translate them into user documentation.
  • Produce documentation which conveys complex technical ideas to a potentially non-technical audience.
  • Ensure all documentation follows proper publishing and grammar standards.
  • Produce release notes, installation, and upgrade guides for major releases.
  • Create and edit videos for use on our Learning Management System and in our documentation.
  • Reorganize, rewrite, and update existing documentation in MadCap Flare.
  • Create documentation from scratch for new products.
  • Lead and mentor other writers.
  • Help define writing projects and determine priorities in coordination with manager and other writers.
  • Develop and establish Technical Writing Best Practices, Content Outlines, Style Guides, Processes, and other Technical Writing guidelines.

QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who has been around web-based, multi-tiered systems. You do not need to be an expert in the software development lifecycle, financial reporting & budgeting systems, databases, programming languages, APIs and the like. However, previous exposure is expected to be successful in this realm.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Formal Education and Certification

  • BA/BS Degree in English, Technical Communications, Technical Writing, Communications, or Journalism. Exposure to Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance is a plus.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant experience, such as technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing including experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.
  • Experience with programs such as MadCap Flare, SnagIT, and Camtasia.
  • Ability to work with company stakeholders across functional competencies and management levels.
  • Ability to review and correct materials for content, style, grammar, spelling, and compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Familiarity with accounting terms and systems is a plus.
