Job Description

Block is seeking a highly motivated attorney with a passion for all things employment to join our Legal organization, reporting to the Head of Employment Legal.

You will:

  • Provide advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of employment law issues in the U.S. and internationally, including: recruiting, inclusion and ersity, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, sick leave, compensation and benefits, privacy, contingent workers, and immigration
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and manage projects with a team-oriented approach
  • Evaluate employment practices, policies, and processes to assess and execute priorities, and ensure compliance
  • Draft and review employment related agreements and templates
  • Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment related inquiries
  • Conduct audits, employment classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts
  • Perform due diligence and advise on employment aspects of M&A projects
  • Assist in managing outside counsel on labor and employment matters, and manage employment litigation as needed
  • Assist in developing and conducting training and education programs for employees, managers, and the People team
  • Collaborate with local counsel to advise the People team and management on international employment issues

Qualifications

You Have:

  • A J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar
  • Minimum 6 years of experience focused on employment law
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented attitude, and superior attention to detail
  • Ability to evaluate risk in light of business and practical considerations and make clear recommendations
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently
  • Experience analyzing and providing advice on federal, stated, and local wage and hour compliance
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a growing legal team and cross-functionally with members at all levels of the organization

Even Better:

  • Prior in-house experience
  • International employment law experience, especially in Canada
  • Employment litigation experience
  • Experience supporting M&A matters

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $245,100 – USD $299,500

Zone B: USD $227,900 – USD $278,500
Zone C: USD $215,600 – USD $263,600
Zone D: USD $208,400 – USD $254,700
