About the job

The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for someone to join our Red Hat Documentation team. The position is for a technical writer, but you will work on far more than documentation. In this role, you will join a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery.

As a Senior Technical Writer on the team, you will define the scope of, quality test, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. Drawing from your passion for both technology and communication, you’ll work closely with developers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers understand our offerings and offerings and find the best solutions for their needs.

The Documentation team maintains their own GitHub repositories, manages their own testing, building, and deployment software, and works with Engineering teams to develop working code examples.

What you will do

  • Work closely with content strategists, documentation program managers, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat’s offerings
  • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
  • Keep up to date on changes of our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
  • Master the use of our internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue-tracking tools
  • Work with Quality Engineering and Development to improve the accuracy of your documentation
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to develop working code examples
  • Participate in customer feedback programs to ensure customer relevancy of our content
  • Devote time to research and understand the product as well as related trends and topics in microservices

What you will bring

  • Enterprise-level technical writing experience, including collaborative writing experience
  • Awareness of agile software development methodologies
  • Familiarity with Red Hat’s products and related industry offerings
  • Understanding and use of version control systems. Comfort with GIT is an advantage
  • Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, proactively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
  • Working knowledge and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line
  • Experience with modular/topic-based documentation
  • Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices
  • Experience in writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience
  • Experience collaborating and directly interacting with globally-distributed stakeholders from erse cultural backgrounds
