About Us: Lessonface.com is a vibrant online platform that connects music and arts enthusiasts of all ages with expert teachers for immersive and inspiring learning experiences, called by the LA Times "the best option for teaching music online." For over ten years, we have been committed to fostering a creative & equitable environment where music and art students and teachers meet and interact, and we have a large and growing truly enthusiastic community as a result. Now, we're seeking a talented UI/UX Designer to join our bootstrapped team on a contract basis and take our platform to new heights.

Role Overview: As UI/UX Designer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the user experience on Lessonface.com. There is near-infinite room for impact in our expanding universe filled with enthusiastic users on both the student and teacher sides. You will be a key part of a small, passionate and engaged team improving our music and arts education platform. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with leadership to conceptualize and execute design solutions.

  • Update and improve the existing user interface, creating designs that may reference modern design trends, but are not solely trendy, nor generic.

  • Design and prototype new features that enhance user engagement and satisfaction, ensuring a consistent and intuitive experience.

  • Assess user research and help to gather feedback to inform design decisions, incorporating user insights into your designs.

  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to illustrate design concepts and workflows.

  • Ensure responsive design principles are applied, allowing for a seamless user experience across various devices and screen sizes.

  • Participate in usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback, striving to continuously improve the user experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a UI/UX Designer, with a portfolio showcasing your design skills and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, or similar software.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, with an ability to translate user needs into elegant design solutions.

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript concepts, enabling effective communication with development teams.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, self-motivated mindset to work effectively, without a lot of oversight, within a fairly flat team environment.

  • Familiarity with the latest design trends, interaction patterns, and user experience best practices, ultimately moderated with an core appreciation for timeless concepts that transcend trends.

  • Appreciation for great teachers and music and arts education.

Contract Details:

  • Duration: Ongoing

  • Location: Remote

  • Compensation: $40-$100/hr, for 10-20 hours a week, depending on your experience level and availability

  • Start Date: September 15, 2023
