About the role

Course Studio is looking for a Design Lead to help deliver amazing products to our clients. This is a player-coach role — you’ll be executing on projects from start to finish and collaborating with other designers and developers to make ideas come to life. Your skillset flexes across both UI and UX and you’re comfortable presenting to clients and advocating for your work. We’re looking for someone who will be a role model to junior designers and can play at active role in mentoring and evolving the practices and processes here.

We’re a remote company, based in Canada, and are open to candidates between PST and EST timezones for this role. Most of our clients are located in North America.

The opportunity

  • Design best-in-class experiences for our clients in the creator economy space. Our view is that the design boundaries have not been pushed in this category. You'll pioneer designs that inform a new and rapidly growing industry.

  • Own the entire design process on your projects, from UX to visual design and branding. We're a small team so you will have plenty of autonomy and ownership of your projects.

  • Guide clients through our process and lead discussions about your work. Sometimes this means being open to their feedback and ideas, and other times it's respectfully pushing back to advocate for your work.

  • Mentor junior designers on the team by providing meaningful feedback, nurturing their growth, and leading by example.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Developers to scope projects and prioritize tasks. Planning successful projects is a team effort.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience, ideally in a design agency setting

  • A portfolio that you're proud of and that reflects both your UI and UX skillsets

  • A natural inclination to ask questions, identify challenges, and lead your team to solid solutions

  • Initiative for staying on top of design trends, best practices, tools and skills. We use Figma here

  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate your design rationale to colleagues and clients alike

  • Ability to multitask and switch context while maintaining a high attention to detail

  • Desire for feedback and continuous growth for you and your teammates

Bonus skills

  • Design chops in other disciplines — video editing, motion design, illustration, or others

  • Familiarity with the creator space

  • Understanding of front end development frameworks (HTML, SCSS)

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive compensation

  • Unlimited paid time off for vacation, sick days, and personal time as needed. We actively encourage team members to make use of this time-off policy

  • Flexible working hours and remote-friendly culture

  • Extended health care benefits

  • Opportunity to grow as the company grows

  • Exposure and learning between Agency and Product business units
