Why this role exists: Mahway is looking for an experienced Product Designer who will work with our (small, 10+ person) team to design and shape the future of our newest ventures. You can untangle hard conceptual problems and have sharp intuition for how people use products (UX)
You can create compelling visual designs (UI)
You’ve had a wide variety of experiences in a “translation” role (e.g. helping business people and designers work together by understanding both sides of the table)
You thrive in a remote-first work culture
You have sophisticated aesthetic sensibilities but are willing to sacrifice for the sake of speed

You understand interaction design and can make figma prototypes (to better captivate investors)
Qualities:
You are a structured thinker
You are a strategy-driven designer
You are empathetic, self-aware, and introspective
You are comfortable with ambiguity, uncertainty, and “half-baked” direction
You are comfortable “killing your darlings” and pivoting within projects and goals

In the first 90-days:
You will work with our EIRs to develop solutions for market problems (examples: defining product concepts, critical features, user stories, MVP definition and exhibits, concept drawings, roadmap, and feature sequencing)
You will create smoke test websites using no-code tools and landing page builders
You will direct visual designers to create brand and marketing assets to support your work
You will participate in making sure the R+D OKRs are met

We originate business ideas in-house, validate them, develop them, hire the founding team, and raise capital. We tend to focus on fintech, B2B vertical SaaS, and health tech, but we often explore outside of those focus areas.
Why this role exists: Mahway is looking for an experienced Product Designer who will work with our (small, 10+ person) team to design and shape the future of our newest ventures. You will help the R+D team take ideas that we are talking about and turn those into concrete reality through end-to-end design including ideation, prototyping, user stories, mockups and some road mapping.
Mahway originates biz and startup ideas from scratch and we are looking for someone to create and build with us to help get our ideas investor-ready (and approved).
Required:
8+ years of design experience (background in UX/UI and some PM preferred)
Certs from NN/g or equivalent appreciated
You have an expert level of problem-solving, and systems thinking as shown through a history of work and an exquisite portfolio
Skills:
You operate within agile and design thinking methodologies
You’re a Figma power-user
You are a good writer and an excellent communicator
You can explain your designs, and design strategy, to non-designers in a way that enables them to make high-quality decisions
You can express complex concepts visually
You are scrappy and can operate quickly under project constraints
You understand interaction design and can make figma prototypes (to better captivate investors)
Qualities:
You are a structured thinker
You are a strategy-driven designer
You are empathetic, self-aware, and introspective
You are comfortable with ambiguity, uncertainty, and “half-baked” direction
You are comfortable “killing your darlings” and pivoting within projects and goals
You have strong opinions but hold them loosely
In the first 90-days:
You will work with our EIRs to develop solutions for market problems (examples: defining product concepts, critical features, user stories, MVP definition and exhibits, concept drawings, roadmap, and feature sequencing)
You will create smoke test websites using no-code tools and landing page builders
You will direct visual designers to create brand and marketing assets to support your work
You will participate in making sure the R+D OKRs are met
You will help to define business ideas and get them understood, approved, and funded
Spend 2-3 days/month in LA with the team for coworking (travel+lodging etc covered)

SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Web & UX designer to join an established branding & design agency that specializes in food & recipe websites.
You must be an expert in Adobe XD & Figma and consider yourself both a right & left brain thinker; someone who loves the technical aspects of creating component libraries while also having a knack for branding & design. As the UX designer, you will work with the owner/Creative Director to spearhead strategy documents, create wireframes, and handle client revisions.
While this role doesn't require logo & branding design skills, it is an added bonus and would be compensated accordingly for the right candidate. Additionally, you will not be coding/developing mocks, as this will be handled by my developer but you should have experience and interest in collaborating with the developer to make the end product pixel-perfect.
This position is a fully remote, Independent Contractor position with 20-40 hours/week for the right fit. Projects will be paid on an agreed project fee (not hourly). You must be willing to sign IC agreement form, which includes a non-disclosure. For the right fit, there is an opportunity for this to turn into a full-time, salaried role.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or similar. To be considered for this role you must be formally trained in graphic design and have a strong understanding of typography basics as it relates to size, contrast, and readability.
Ideally, you have a minimum of 2 years post-grad experience.
Expert-level skills using Adobe XD and Figma and experience creating component libraries.
Proven experience with accessibility and the WCAG 2.0 Guidelines.
Specific experience creating & maintaining a component library to ultimately decrease the design and development time by creating an organized system of UX elements.
Priority is given to someone who is passionate about and has experience with food & design! Our clients are mainly food bloggers, so having a base understanding of cooking and baking is helpful to better understand their needs.
While working hours are flexible, you will need to be available for weekly meetings and be reachable via Slack between the working hours of 8-5 pm CST.
You Must Also Have A:
High comfort acting as lead designer and taking initiative.
Knack for a modern, upbeat, and colorful design. Many of our clients are women, therefore the design style leans more toward that aesthetic (we don't do much black and white, edgy type design). Be prepared to share samples.
Team focus and be willing to adapt based on feedback and design restrictions that are presented to you.
Collaborative mindset with openness to receive feedback. We are a team and are looking to provide the highest quality to our clients.
Clear demonstration of personal and professional alignment. We are looking for someone that is passionate about web design (both UX & UI) and the idea of translating branding into a beautiful, pixel-perfect website.
Keen eye and detail focus with a commitment to pixel-perfect design and execution
Forward-thinking and problem-solving approach to every project.

Who We Are
At The DataFace, we empower people, brands, and organizations to tell great stories with their data. Over the past five years, we’ve worked with tech giants, non-profits, and research teams to make complex data more engaging and approachable.
Our team is hyper-collaborative; we're often in Figma together, workshopping ideas until something sticks. We believe that the best creative work is the sum of multiple perspectives, and invite all team members to have a hand in crafting a project's trajectory.
Because we're self-funded and profitable, our agency can be selective in the projects we take on. We lean towards those with social impact, where we can utilize our data viz skills to advocate for things we believe in: social justice, affordable health care, and climate solutions, among other causes. We also like using client projects to push our technical skills, and won't shy away from a challenge.
We are committed to being an anti-racist, inclusive agency and upholding these ethics in the work we do and environment we foster. We encourage people of color, women and members of the LGBTQ+ community to apply, voice their opinions, and help define the agency’s trajectory.
