Software Engineer - Integrations
Etleap came to be out of the frustration with how much time data wrangling takes away from the actual analysis. We were just tired of spending time building and maintaining data pipelines. Then we noticed, so is everyone else! That is why we’ve created an intuitive ETL tool that easily enables the data analysts themselves to integrate data from any source. This way data analysts can do their most significant work faster than ever before.
Now we are looking to add engineers to our core engineering team to help build the infrastructure and the integrations that modern data teams depend on to create and operate their data warehouse! It shouldn’t take a CS degree to use big data effectively, and abstracting away the difficult parts is our mission.
Are you ready for the challenge?
What you are going to do:
* Be part of the team that is building the next generation of ETL software
* Build fast, scalable, easy-to-maintain integrations that gets data flowing with minimal latency* Come up with novel ideas on how to extend Etleap’s integrations framework, and then implement those ideas as reusable interfaces and componentsWhat we want to see in you:
* You love data engineering
* You write robust and maintainable code three times as fast as other developers* You find reverse-engineering systems interesting* Coding in Java is second nature to you* You’re excited to work in a scrappy, fast-paced environment* You’re down to earth and fun to work with. This is an absolute must! This role is open to iniduals living anywhere in the world.

Why we're looking for you
It’s been a busy year: we've helped our customers build nearly-countless tools to do their business better, raised a Series B, more than tripled our revenue, and overall grown the business. And we've had a blast doing it all. This year, we have even more exciting revenue, product, and headcount goals. Without a seasoned and exceptional engineering team, we risk Retool’s success. You’ll work with Retool’s head of engineering, cross-functional stakeholders, and engineers to understand the hiring bar, but we'll look to you to drive process improvements, hiring strategy, and execution with our technical recruiting team
What you'll do
This technical recruiter will be a foundational team member, joining our small but mighty technical recruiting team. You will be responsible for growing our engineering, product, and design teams. It’s an incredible opportunity to build process from the ground up while also having an enormous impact on our culture. We have big goals this year and to get there, we need a seasoned technical recruiter to identify motivationally-aligned engineers excited to build one of Sequoia Capital’s breakout companies.
We’ll look to you to deliver best practices, source excellent and relevant talent, and grow our engineering, product, and design teams to ensure we hit our product roadmap goals. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hire the people that build the product many of them live in every day; in fact, many Retool employees were former users. There’s incredible opportunity to build a world-class technical team here and we’ll need someone like you drive ahead while keeping the business at the heart of your decisions.
As the company grows, so will our needs. We’ll leverage your skills (and hopefully your network, too!) to grow our recruiting team. You’ll have say in who we hire and how we structure our team.
Who you'll work with
The talent team at Retool is small but extremely impactful. Recruiting has historically been a team sport, and we're proud of the recruiting-forward organization we've built. You’ll partner with the team to set goals, ensure a stellar candidate experience, and achieve our aggressive hiring targets.
We’re a erse bunch with a variety of backgrounds: some of us come from industries unrelated to tech and others have grown up on a steady diet of Bay-area companies. We’re a slightly sarcastic, dedicated, and hard-working group (who also loves plants and GIFS) and we’re looking to add folks to help us expand our culture. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
And, it might be helpful to note: we expect to be back in our beautiful Hayes Valley, San Francisco office this coming fall, pending a successful continuation of vaccine rollouts!
YOUR SKILLSET
* 2+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting
* Previous startup experience* Past success in sourcing, project management, and closing* Desire to work in an ambiguous environment and excitement to provide structure* Ability to learn quickly* Desire to work with other team members, but also happy to work autonomouslyIN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:
* Learn the history of Retool, understand the product, and learn about the health of the business.
* Develop relationships with your key stakeholders. This will include your hiring managers, cross-functional partners, and other people relevant to your role. * Learn how to use Lever, our applicant tracking system, to successfully move candidates through our pipeline and ensure data cleanliness and accuracy. * Own the full-cycle recruiting process, from our first touchpoint with candidates to closing them in partnership with our head of engineering, engineers, and peers.* Leverage your metrics to inform your activity needs, which we'll look to you to interpret and present (and manage to).* Learn our sourcing profiles and refine them as needed, all with the intent of hiring the best and brightest engineers and designers, from a variety of backgrounds.* Contribute to Retool's mission to build a erse and performant company.* Drive hiring decisions with your hiring managers. You’ll act as a sounding board and guide through our candidate debriefs post onsites and help the hiring team make a final decision.* Kickoff new-to-the-business roles, primarily within product and design. You'll own the kickoff process and agree on deliverables with hiring managers, interviewers, and so forth. You may occasionally step in to support the growing org by taking on the occasional role outside of technical hiring.* Partner with your engineering team to identify non-traditional ways to reach out to and attract candidates. * Design and deploy new programs, relationships with external organizations, and track their progress.* Help interview and hire Retool’s next recruiting hire.",

🔧 The position
* We love great design. This is a position that doesn't have to fight for \"a seat on table\".

You'll bounce off ideas each other and with the entire team too.* You'll design across Web app, iOS, Android, website and the brand.* Over the next years we'll build up a product design team around you.* Potentially you've been a software engineer before and can develop software on a prototype level. We value deep understanding for nuances in the design-development handover. (E.g. SwiftUI, Framer, JS,..)👟 About you
→ We know that perfect candidates don’t exist. Even if not all of this applies to you, we’d love to learn more about you. 🦄
* You've built designed consumer facing products. We love to build custom UI and UX. Our idea of great design is questioning as many assumptions as possible. And also answering them.

This means high involvement of all team members in the design process.* You love learning technologies as you go. You always want to find the right tool for the job; and don't only follow what you already know.* You care about more than design quality. Whatever you do, needs to have business impact. We are flexible and cover whatever you need to do the best work of your life.* Easy remote work policy: We believe in co-located teams. We have an international team. So if you want to work from home for some time, we are easy. No need to take vacation.* Make a big difference: Take, own and implement decisions to build Gigs from scratch.* Company health insurance policy (in case you are not from Germany and were wondering how it works over here).🤔 Our process
The starting date is as soon as possible. However, we are willing to wait for the right candidate. And will do everything to accommodate your needs.
You'll walk through four stages:
1. Get to know each other: We use this to pitch Gigs and get you excited to join. We'll also use this chance to see whether both our expectations align.
2. Meet the team: You'll get to meet our team members (Hermann, Sebastian). We value team fit over everything else. This also gives you the chance to see whether you'd enjoy working with us.
3. Design assessment: You will share work you've done before (can be a pet project or from a previous job). We'll use that to have a conversation about which decisions you've taken and why.
4. Final conversation: The team and you are going to chat more about the position, what you value, what you took away from the interviews so far, and whatever is on your mind.
We are mindful of your time: Going through all stages can be done within one week. Once you've passed them all we will extend a formal offer.

Cord is a London-based startup building a comprehensive training data solution for computer vision AI applications. We are backed by Y Combinator, the Harvard Management Company, top industry executives, and other leading Bay Area investors.
With backgrounds in computer science, physics, and quantitative finance, we felt firsthand how the lack of tools to prepare quality training data was impeding the progress of building practical AI. AI feels to us like what the early days of computing or the internet must have felt like, where the potential of the technology is clear, but the tools and processes surrounding it are terrible. We have devised a unique methodology for automating the tasks related to preparing quality training data, in effect turning the training data problem into a data science problem.
We are looking for an experienced R&D engineer to help us conduct research on the state of the art of computer vision and solve multifaceted algorithmic problems. You will:
• Experiment with and adapt latest ML technologies to fit into existing tech stack
• Solve idiosyncratic statistical, geometric, and engineering problems
• Work closely with a full stack tech team to assist implementation of research solutions into the product
The role will be exposed to a broad tech stack (e.g. ReactJS, Python, REST & GraphQL, OpenCV, PyTorch, GCP, AWS & CUDA, Kubernetes) and the cutting edge of computer vision and deep learning.
The right candidate will have proven experience conducting applied research in a team environment. Requirements for the role include:
• Passion for solving ML problems
• Strong experience in Python and machine learning libraries such as OpenCV, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Fast.ai, and Keras
• Strong experience in mathematical programming, algorithmic problem solving, and applied machine learning
Cord offers a unique opportunity to be part of a startup with a clear mission and vision at an early stage. You will get to explore and build services for enterprise AI use cases across many different industry verticals such as healthcare, surveillance, retail, and agriculture.
Our work is at the cutting edge of computer vision and deep learning, which also includes working on solving unsolved problems within those fields. We offer competitive compensation and equity options in the business for the right candidate.

I am the CEO of a startup, and we’re working on some really exciting stuff.
It is by no means a sure bet just yet, but we have some great momentum and just finalised a Seed round after coming out of Y-Combinator Winter 21. One of the problems I’m struggling with right now is making sure I am using my time in the best possible way, and that’s why I’d like to hire you.
We are a three person start-up about to hire our 3rd developer and so far it is just me on the business side of things. I need someone that can sweep up the administration of running a business. You help me offload administrative work that is not consistent in volume — so that I can spend more time engaging with customers and hiring awesome people which are the two best things I can do for the company. (great examples of what I need help with include fundraising due diligence, managing our outsourced suppliers, planning a company retreat, etc.)
It is unglamorous work and it will be hard. Basically as hard as being a start-up founder.
How the Role Works
What you get is the opportunity to operate at a high level and gain years of experience in months. You will build a close relationship with the CEO and CTO and be the linchpin that glues the rest of the early team together.
I need someone to partner with, who can be fully trusted with managing my calendar, my email, my phone, my contacts, as well as coordinating aspects of both my professional life. You'll do more and more of the work that I do and in the process learn how to manage and lead a team. My dream is that if I cannot make a meeting, you step in for me no questions asked. Thats how in sync I would like us to be.
I would like to compensate you in the top quartile of the salary range for this position, because I know you will work a lot of hours and carry a lot of my worries as your worries. I work hard to be a good person, but I know you will interact with me in some of my most stressful moments and this might stress you out, too. A good person for this role would be more calm than me.
I would like to compensate you in the top quartile of the salary range for this position and make sure you get equity so that every day our business grows, your wealth grows as well.
I work hard to be a good person, but I know you will interact with me in some of my most stressful moments and this might stress you out, too. A good person for this role would be more calm than me.
I need you to be in the office when I’m in the office, relieving me of administrative work so that I can focus on responsibilities that come with leading the company. Together, we will navigate a time of incredible growth for the business as well as a great deal of personal growth for me as an executive. It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride.
Some of the Things You’ll Do
I am doing many new things now that I wasn’t doing a year ago, so I imagine your role might evolve as well. Here are some things I know I would like to entrust you with managing right away:
* Managing my agenda as a gatekeeper against any waste of time
* Booking professional and personal travel* Making sure all expenses are properly recorded* Coordinating lunches and dinners with my senior team, key customers and partners, and other constituents* Collecting and driving a list of key decisions I need to make each day, such as: things I need to sign, documents to review, important emails, invitations, deadlines, reminders, etc.* Coordinating events in the office where I am hosting.* Taking on random tasks that are important to me but difficult to complete in between a day fully booked with meetingsWhat I’m Like to Work With
I function best in a routine and like to run my day to a schedule. Ideally we check in AM and PM and then get to work in between.
I like to give direct feedback, I will tell you what could be better and I will also tell you what is good. I won’t yell or swear, but I will be brutally honest. If this makes you uncomfortable you’re not going to be happy, so you shouldn’t work for me (I mean, I don’t want to make you unhappy!). If this feels like something you’d prefer, then we’ll probably get along.
I am not interested in doing anything not directly connected to the goals of the company. You will discover very quickly what I think is important and what I think can be ignored. I will be pretty open with you about things I think are worth our attention, and things that aren’t.
The Long Term
I’m cool if you’re not the Chief of Staff forever, but I want someone who will do this job happily and with great focus for at least 1 year. Beyond that, if you discover an aspect of the company you are thrilled about I’d love to promote you into one of our teams and task you with hiring and training your replacement. For the right person you might progress into being the COO, but who knows?
Together, we will build a company and if you want to learn what it’s like to run a company then I invite you to come run a company with me.
Details
Full time role, ideal candidate will already be in Singapore. Salaries are high, with competitive equity.
The Team
I am a former Royal Marine Commando that has built a business in maritime from nothing to 4 million in turnover.
Our CTO has published multiple papers across technology, from Formal verification in cryptocurrencies, human-computer interaction, embedded glucose monitoring to baseline optimization in chemistry and physics. He has also built software and hardware serving hundreds of thousands of users across southeast Asia, in fintech, insurtech, robotics, for companies like National Geographic, Ethereum, and SGX.
Our small dev team has an awesome background, including a team member who was the founding team of a start up with a Billion dollar exit. That is because we are spending the money to hire professionals who operate at a high level. What we are not doing is trying to nickel and dime people and hire people that are just looking for a job. Again this is hard, when they are at work, no one chills out at Greywing.
How to apply
See our CEO, Nick Clarke's, top tips for recording an awesome Loom here.
If you are interested, please reach out with a short Loom video answering the following questions:
1. What should we know about you? Background, capabilities, what you think your strengths are.
2. What interests you about us?3. Tell us a little about the most memorable project you've worked on. What were the hardest parts? What were the best moments?",
