【Company Overview】
At Eukarya, we develop and provide a WebGIS (Geographic Information System) platform called Re:Earth(https://reearth.io/ja))
Re:Earth is a next-generation WebGIS platform that combines high scalability with an intuitive user interface. As a browser-based tool, it includes the first-ever "browser-operable plugin system" for WebGIS. Additionally, Re:Earth is available as open-source software (OSS), allowing us to collaboratively build and expand its value with contributors and present our achievements at global conferences like FOSS4G.
【Current Status and Challenges of Eukarya and Re:Earth】
Since its launch in 2021, Re:Earth has steadily grown in demand among businesses and government institutions, securing nearly 200 million yen in orders within its first six months. This growth continues rapidly, with expanding demand and project scale.
Previously, the name "Re:Earth" referred solely to our browser-based visualization tool. However, as we advanced the Re:Earth project, we recognized the need for a comprehensive web-based GIS ecosystem to foster more open GIS and open data applications. This vision, which we now call the Re:Earth Ecosystem, envisions the addition of components such as a high-performance CMS and powerful GIS data analysis and transformation tools in a fully web-based OSS format, creating new possibilities for GIS usage.
Currently, the Re:Earth Ecosystem consists of: Re:Earth Visualizer: our main visualization tool Re:Earth CMS: for data collection, management, and distribution Re:Earth Marketplace: for publishing, searching, and downloading plugins
However, as these tools were developed prior to the Re:Earth Ecosystem concept, they currently lack a unified UI/UX design. To achieve the Re:Earth Ecosystem’s vision as a cohesive platform offering valuable experiences to users and contributors, a solid design concept with a consistent UI/UX is essential.
To further promote the development of the Re:Earth Ecosystem and facilitate meaningful collaboration with users and contributors, we are actively seeking a skilled UI/UX designer with a strong sense of intellectual curiosity.
【Job Responsibilities】
・Product planning, wireframe creation, and UI/UX design for new products
・Understanding client needs and defining requirements through communication
・Collaborating with the development team, sharing design insights, and handling post-development UI/UX quality testing and improvements
【Team Structure】
You will join the Design Team, which works closely with the development team. Team size: 4 members (including members with advanced degrees in design engineering and backgrounds in design firms)
【Position Highlights】
◎Opportunity for Growth in a Rapidly Scaling Environment:
Join us at a stage of rapid growth, both in team size and product expansion, and experience the excitement of scaling.
◎Diverse, International Team:
Work in an international team with erse members from various backgrounds, collaborating on design and development.
◎Unique Opportunities in OSS Development:
Engage in tasks unique to OSS, such as community expansion strategies and UI/UX planning and execution.
【Appeal of the UI/UX Designer Role at Eukarya】
◎Young and Empowered Design Team
Eukarya, now in its seventh year, is a startup developing and managing its own OSS product, Re:Earth. Our design team has an average age of 30, providing ample autonomy and growth opportunities. The new designer will play a crucial role in interdepartmental communication, collaborating across the engineering and sales teams, and participating in every phase of the project lifecycle. This position is ideal for designers who enjoy working collaboratively and are interested in advancing toward roles like project manager or design manager.
◎Cutting-edge Product Development and Design
At Eukarya, we continually adopt the latest technologies, such as WebGL rendering and performance improvements through WebAssembly. We are also planning to integrate AI into future products. While new technologies present unique challenges, we see them as opportunities for growth and innovation, creating a stimulating environment for designers with a curiosity for new technology.
◎High-impact Public Projects
Our Re:Earth platform has been selected as the foundational system for Japan's nationwide 3D urban model project, Project PLATEAU, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. Additionally, we work with local governments to address issues in areas such as disaster preparedness, community storytelling, and urban planning simulations.

【Company Overview】
At Eukarya, we develop and provide a WebGIS (Geographic Information System) platform called "Re:Earth" Re:Earth is a next-generation WebGIS platform that combines high scalability with an intuitive user interface. It is a browser-based tool that introduces the first "browser-operated plugin system" in the WebGIS field. Additionally, Re:Earth is available as open-source software (OSS). At Eukarya, we aim to offer value to society by building this platform collaboratively with contributors, and we have shared our achievements at global conferences like FOSS4G.
【Current Status and Challenges of Eukarya/Re:Earth】
Since its launch in 2021, Re:Earth has expanded its demand, particularly among corporations and government agencies, securing nearly 200 million yen in orders within just six months. Since then, the demand and scale of projects involving Re:Earth have continued to grow rapidly.
Initially, the name Re:Earth referred solely to the browser-based visualization tool. However, as we advanced the Re:Earth project, we recognized the need for a more comprehensive web-based GIS ecosystem to facilitate open GIS and open data usage. For instance, alongside the existing Re:Earth (Visualizer), the addition of a high-performance CMS and tools for analyzing and converting large GIS datasets, all available as web-based OSS, could create a brighter future for GIS utilization. We have named this overarching ecosystem vision the "Re:Earth Ecosystem."
Currently, the Re:Earth Ecosystem includes: Re:Earth Visualizer: for data visualization. Re:Earth CMS: for data collection, management, and distribution. Re:Earth Marketplace: for publishing, searching, and downloading plugins. However, these components were developed before the establishment of the Re:Earth Ecosystem concept, resulting in a lack of unified design direction.
For the Re:Earth Ecosystem to grow into an outstanding platform and continue to provide value and experiences to users and contributors, a strong concept, coherent design, and cohesive visual identity are essential.
To drive the future expansion of the Re:Earth Ecosystem and foster value creation through collaboration with users and contributors, we are actively seeking talented graphic designers with a passion for intellectual curiosity.
【Roles and Responsibilities】
・Brand design and concept development for both service and corporate identity.
・Graphic design for print media and sales promotion materials.
・Graphic design and illustration related to brand identity.
・Design principles and design system development.
・Character design related to the product.
・Understanding and organizing client requirements through communication.
【Team Structure】
・You will be part of the Design Team, which frequently collaborates with the Development Team.
・Team size: 4 members (including those with master's degrees in design engineering and backgrounds from various design companies).
【Key Features】
・Experience Rapid Growth: You will be part of a company experiencing rapid growth, both in business scale and product development, during its expansion phase.
・Diverse and International Team: Work within a team rich in ersity, composed of members from various countries and backgrounds, allowing you to engage in design and development from a global perspective.
・Unique Work in OSS Development: Engage in activities unique to OSS development, such as expanding the OSS community and planning and implementing UI/UX initiatives that go beyond typical product development experiences.
【Benefits of the Graphic Designer Role at Eukarya】
◆Dynamic, Growth-Oriented Design Team:
Eukarya is a startup in its 7th year, developing and managing the OSS product "Re:Earth." Our design team has an average age of 30, and members are given substantial autonomy, allowing for personal growth. We operate across various departments—engineering, design, and sales—cooperating to manage projects. As a new designer, you will play a critical role not only in graphic design but also in cross-departmental communication. You will be involved in everything from planning to design (concept creation and user story design), making this an ideal environment for designers who enjoy collaborative, end-to-end creation. We encourage designers who wish to grow into other design areas like UI/UX or aspire to roles such as project manager or design manager to apply.
◆Innovative Product Development Using Cutting-Edge Technology:
Eukarya consistently integrates the latest technology into its product development, including WebGL rendering and performance enhancements through WebAssembly. We are also planning projects that incorporate AI. While new technologies bring challenges, they also provide opportunities for continuous learning and improvement. Designers who are curious and passionate about exploring new technologies will find this environment both exciting and rewarding.
◆High Public Relevance:
Our product, Re:Earth has been adopted as the foundational system for "Project PLATEAU," a nationwide 3D city model project led by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. Besides Project PLATEAU, Eukarya is involved in solving various issues for local governments, including disaster prevention, local storytelling, and urban planning simulations.
【Required skills】
・Over 3 Years of Practical Experience in Graphic Design: Candidates should have at least three years of hands-on experience in graphic design, preferably gained at design studios or production companies.

We’re a new type of business phone with a mission to help people communicate better and be more productive.
We’re backed by Y Combinator and some of the best venture firms around including Tiger Global, Craft Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others. Sweat the details in everything you design with pixel perfection, leaving nothing up for ambiguity.
Collaborate with our Product and Research teams and other stakeholders to create beautiful and valuable product experiences that truly delight our customers and help them grow.
Self-identify areas of improvement and opportunities for delight in our product, leading your own design initiatives that can be shipped quickly.
Communicate features, UI details, and user flows to the Engineering team to ensure a smooth handover and pixel-perfect end results.
Help maintain, improve, and evolve our design system, component libraries, and product aesthetics.
Roll up your sleeves, get involved, collaborate, and help us deliver something truly extraordinary!
About you
You have 5+ years of professional product design experience designing for both desktop and mobile platforms, and a portfolio showing extremely strong fundamentals across UI design, user experience, and visual design.

You’re super passionate about what you do, have an incredible attention to detail, and are dedicated to delivering the highest quality in everything you create.
You can stay on top of current design trends and best practices, but also know when to venture off and break the mold.
You're a self-starter and exceptional communicator, able to thrive in a fast-paced, remote, and distributed working environment.
You can be scrappy and versatile when needed, able to wear many hats, and work outside of your comfort zone.
