The role of Head of Data is the first of its kind in our company and will be reporting to our CTO. You, together with your team, will ensure that the various databases are kept up to date and well connected with one another. We are looking for a Data Research Analyst that will help us build a reliable and scalable data base of sustainability information, through research on Companies’ CSR and ESG indicators methodology and quality assurance processes.
The role provides an opportunity to understand the reporting standards that exist and how companies sustainability performance is measured.
Working as a Data Research Analyst you will be responsible for ensuring that we have the most accurate environmental data in order to provide the most reliable sustainability impact measurements. The Data Research Analyst role will include, but not be limited to, the following activities:
- Assist in data collection project management through data analysis, quality assurance and data monitoring using BI, Excel and Python
- Conduct frequent research on ESG reporting standards and assist in the development of methodologies for the collection of environmental indicators (e.g. CO2 emissions, energy consumption, waste generation)
- Mentor and train external contractors and internal team on environmental indicators and sustainability frameworks

Requirements

Job Summary
The Balance Entry Specialist position is responsible for completing historical payroll data transfers for all new clients onboarding with Paycor to ensure the completion and accuracy of the Paycor clients’ tax setup at the client level during the implementation process. The Balance Entry Specialist is responsible for identifying quality issues and data discrepancies regarding tax treatment of earnings, deductions and employer memo codes as well as tax liability vs. deposits based on historical detail. The Balance Entry Specialist will communicate these concerns with the Implementation teams on an ongoing basis. Other key responsibilities include data file manipulation, data extraction from prior provider systems and transfers as well as problem-solving assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate collection of required documentation for Client level historical payroll data*
- When necessary, extract data from Clients’ current payroll systems in the form of standard and/or custom reports
- Ensure all payroll data is recorded, balanced, and reconciled to the Client level support*
- Troubleshoot potential tax mistreatments of earnings and deduction types. Communicate results as required*
- Educate Implementation Consulting team on acceptable historical documentation, tax impounds, and on-going concerns regarding Clients’ data*

Tackle New Automation Opportunities
- You’ll work directly with the team to seek out opportunities to further automate data services for clients. This will include seeking out automation opportunities outside of finance and accounting workflows. This may include automating parts of their marketing processes, field scheduling, inventory purchasing, etc. Over time, you’ll build out a team to scale the process automation services for clients
- Internally, you’ll work directly with the CEO to help implement and integrate a new CRM into their proposal and workflow management tools via thoughtful use of tools like Zapier. You’ll tackle other interesting challenges internally including more building systems for more real-time margin presentation and budget-to-actual analysis
- Fluency in Python and JavaScript and a strong understanding of low-code tools such as Zapier and Integromat. What you don’t know, you can learn quickly

As our first Data Engineer you’ll have the opportunity to shape and own the development of our data platform, working closely with our Data & Insights Manager to understand our data needs and support data-driven decision making throughout the business.

We don’t expect you to have worked with these exact technologies before, but this is the stack you’ll initially be working with and primarily responsible for. You’ll have the chance to influence how the stack evolves over time.
We use Snowflake for our data warehouse, loading data into it with Spark jobs managed by AWS Glue and written in Python. We have a variety of data sources, but mainly our data comes from our site’s analytics events (via RudderStack), operational MySQL database and 3rd party services like Stripe and Paypal. We use a few different tools for visualising and analysing data, including DataBox and Amplitude.

Hopefully you’ll have done some of the following before:
- For this role we’re looking for someone who’s comfortable owning our data stack, ensuring it’s secure, reliable, maintainable and fit for our needs. Ideally you’ll have set up or worked with a modern data stack before.
- You've worked in a data team, know what great looks like, and would feel comfortable drawing on your experience to shape and define our stack
- You’ll have experience with engineering practices like version control, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and observability.
- You’ll have worked with people in data analysis roles to understand data requirements, define data models, and provide clean, transformed data ready for analysis.
- You’re able to make pragmatic decisions over where it’s better to use off the shelf tooling and where to build things ourselves.
- Your verbal and written communication skills mean you can communicate well with a range of people primarily working remotely.
