Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of our Ethereum software engineering team focusing on automation of validator infrastructure and building great staking products. OPUS is our product suite which offers a one-stop-shop product for staking Ethereum. For users, it offers a portal where users can stake and see their rewards, and check the status of their validators. On the backend, we have a platform that automatically launches, manages, and monitors these validators.

OPUS consists of a React/Next.js frontend and a backend written in Rust. It is backed by PostgreSQL and Hashicorp Vault, and runs mostly on Google Cloud, with some bandwidth-intensive parts running on bare metal.

Your main role will be to design, develop, and deploy software systems to advance our product as well as other staking services.

Responsibilities

1. Design and develop new features. Discuss with internal stakeholders to clarify how our next feature should look, discuss with fellow engineers how it should be implemented, and then drive implementation to completion.
2. Support and collaborate. Review and discuss engineering designs, review code, help fellow engineers, and mentor them on a technical level.

We want to accelerate product delivery (there’s so much to build!) so we’re looking to bring on high agency and experienced frontend engineers to work on high impact product features / frontend infrastructure. * High performance spreadsheets → our primary UI is a collaborative realtime spreadsheet. It needs to be highly performant (60 fps) and support millions of cells of varying types.

How we work

On the engineering team, we follow the ShapeUp methodology. We break projects into appetites  of either 2 or 6 weeks. Instead of an estimate for how long something will take, these appetites are a strict boundary on how much time we’ll spend on a feature. If it doesn’t ship in that time, we don’t automatically keep working on it. This encourages us to build something minimal but high quality first so that at least something of value ships to users. As an engineer, you have the flexibility to cut scope to ensure something ships. This allows us to  consistently ship features to users every 6 weeks and avoid marathon projects. If you want to follow along on one of these projects, I tweeted one whole feature end to end.

Between cycles, we generally cool down and work on bugs, refactors, etc. We also use that time to plan the next cycle. Features specs have strict boundaries but malleable internals. This encourages engineers to change the scope while building to ensure we deliver something by the cycle end. We stay away from very specific long term roadmaps. Instead we have a general direction we want to head in, but every 6 weeks, we’ll re-evaluate what’s up next.

We’re the perfect size for engineers who want to build stuff and ship without distraction. We prefer smaller teams of independent engineers that love their craft, over larger inefficient teams with management overhead.

Job Overview

As an experienced Software Engineer, you will be working on Shogun and empowering merchants to create exceptional ecommerce experiences. You will have the opportunity to work on a team of high performers and to ship things fast.

Who You Are

• Recent experience developing production Ruby on Rails APIs in a professional environment, that includes:
  • Review of documentation concerning upcoming features and breakdown the work into manageable steps
  • Completion of assigned work with minimal to no assistance
  • Identification of gaps in upcoming feature documentation and comfortable asking your Engineering Manager, Product Manager or Designer for more detail
  • Ensure work is properly covered by unit and integration tests
  • Provide assistance to fellow team members as needed
• Proficient in writing thorough documentation to guide our fellow Shogies, partners and merchants.
• Familiar with common software design patterns, and their use in conjunction with Rails APIs.
• Willing to take ownership of different sections of the application, becoming the go-to person on the team for all aspects of it, from planning and stories to QA and support questions.
• Proficient with managing work with Git and GitHub
• Comfortable working in a 100% remote environment and can be trusted to work with high agency

Need to Have

• 3+ years of strong proficiency and professional working experience using Ruby on Rails
