Help fix the legal industry!
The way legal paperwork gets done is filled with inefficiencies, which leads to ridiculously high legal fees. We fix this by building software that automates and streamlines the process.
We're profitable and growing sustainably. We're the most popular way for high-growth technology startups to form, and are also used by tons of top-tier startups for hiring and fundraising. Our software is more advanced than any other online legal service. We've invested a lot in architecture, maintainability, and testing, giving us a significant advantage as we build out functionality that founders and attorneys can currently only dream of.
We're a quiet leader in the legal technology space — if you are interested in changing the legal industry, this is arguably the best place to be.
Notes on our stack and process:
* Our backend is mostly in Ruby on Rails, with very small amounts of Scala and Go as well.
* Our front-end is mostly in Ember.* We use CI extensively for linting, tests, visual diffs, and deployment.* We're not religious about any particular technology — we believe in using the right tool for a given problem. This is a great fit if you want to work:
* ... on a complex product, with a ton of engineering challenges
* ... in a company that strongly values good software development practices* ... at a product-driven company bringing an archaic industry into the future* ... on a beloved product with a lot of usage and visibility in the startup community* ... with bright people who are extremely passionate about their work* ... on a small but extremely high-performing team* ... at a financially sound company that is not dependent on venture capital financingYou must have:
* An inability to write anything but clean, maintainable code.
* A strong aversion to code without test coverage.* Deep experience with building, maintaining, and optimizing large-scale, production Ruby on Rails applications* Significant experience building software as part of a team with strong development practices* Excellent written English communication skillsExperience with Ember is a bonus, but not mandatory.
We've been remote-first since 2013. We are only looking directly for full-time employees - we are absolutely not interested in agencies, contractors, or recruiters.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Business Intelligence to lead and expand our BI and analytics capabilities at Jane. This role will begin by evaluating, improving and optimizing our existing business systems and paving the way for a business intelligence strategy. The successful candidate will be a crucial part of our leadership team, collaborating with stakeholders across all departments to drive data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency.Like with all positions at Jane, this position is a remote position, allowing you to work anywhere you want across Canada. Building a delighted team who can delight our customers is part of Jane’s DNA. In our most recent company-wide health check, 99% of our team agreed that our founders demonstrate people are important to Jane’s success. On top of that, 98% of our team felt Manager cares about them as human beings and that they are supported when needing to arrange time off from work. We’d never claim to be perfect, but we’re working hard to listen to our people and improve each day. We really want the people who work at Jane to love being here, so it's important that we start with a bit about what makes our company unique and try to be as transparent as possible. Our values also provide some insights into Jane and hopefully, you’ll have a better idea if this might be the kind of company you want to be part of. Before we were Jane, our Co-Founders were solving problems for their own clinics not realizing that a few years later, this team would grow to support tens of thousands of healthcare practices in more than 60 countries. Our platform is now helping to modernize the world of practice management software. We enable the likes of physiotherapists, mental health counsellors, chiropractors, and other allied health practitioners to run their practices in a digital-first way through features such as online booking, charting, scheduling, telehealth, and billing along with an evolving library of features. You can see more of them here. Although we’ve grown, still to this day, we’re rooted in solving clinics’ problems and making sure we don’t lose sight of Jane’s vision. We have remained profitable for the past seven years, we’re product-led and growing organically (and responsibly) to the point where 85% of our customer growth is either from customer referrals or word of mouth. Growth like this is unique, especially in the world of SaaS, and it doesn’t happen by chance. We have a brilliant team of over 400 Janers who are doing an amazing job of listening to our customers, building what they need, and providing industry-leading support. We pride ourselves on flexibility & autonomy, some of our team block out their calendars to pick up their children from school (and this is normal at Jane), and we even have a #kids channel in Slack. We’re not a clock-in clock-out system-type environment. With that being said, we’re not going to paint the picture of a perfect environment either. We’re a company that’s scaling quickly, we have many moving parts, many of us are doing this for the first time and sometimes, we don’t have processes in place or clear views which can require a lot of resourcefulness and a passion for problem-solving. With all that to say, if you’re looking for an environment where you can grow, stretch yourself, and work with some incredibly talented people on problems that are positively impacting people's lives, Jane could be the place for you.Compensation Expectations for the RoleJane’s committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $175,600 and a maximum annual salary of $285,400. As you may have noticed, this salary range is quite large, and this is intentional to account for the growth someone will experience in the role throughout their time at Jane (i.e., from building the skills, to accomplished, to highly proficient, all the way to achieving excellence in the role). When hiring talented folks to join the Jane team, we’ve found that new team members are best set up for success when hired with the expectation of being fully accomplished in the role, which for this role would reflect a salary between $208,600 to $219,500. It's also possible to join Jane at a salary above or below this, which would mean a salary below $208,600 typically reflects someone who has all the potential to be fully accomplished in the role but doesn't yet possess all the skills required, while a salary above $219,500 is typically for iniduals who are currently in this role at Jane and had the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our customers, product and company with deep Jane knowledge. At Jane, we pay for growth, which means that you’ll continue to have conversations about your career development with your manager and see your compensation grow over time as you build an amazing career with us.More information on Jane's benefits package can be found here The impact you could have… * You'll own the company-wide business intelligence strategy, bringing coherence to data sources and addressing challenges in accuracy, accessibility, and visualization, laying the foundation for informed decision-making.* Drive the creation of a data-centric culture within our high-growth environment, influencing teams across Dev, Product, Marketing, and Support to prioritize data-informed decision-making and fostering a company-wide appreciation of business intelligence.* Take charge of transforming our existing analytics pipeline, ensuring its efficiency and reliability. We believe it’s important to actively recognize, embrace, and celebrate our differences in order to make Jane an inclusive, equitable, and erse workplace. We want to build a team of people who make conversations rich with perspective and experience. We are committed to listening to every voice in order to learn and grow because doing this will allow us to meet the needs of the erse community of helpers that Jane serves. The core problem, we’re solving with Tiptap
Millions of people around the world are using them right now in their web browsers: Text editors. While the vast majority of users have no idea about the underlying technology, and even most web-savvy people think of a text editor as a simple piece of HTML, most of the content on the web comes through them, and while it always seems like an easy problem to solve for web developers at first, it's extremely difficult and finicky to do well, especially when you need to build more sophisticated editor UIs like Google Docs or Notion do.
That's why we built Tiptap. Transforming this complexity into fun.
About Tiptap
Chances are high that you’ve already heard about Tiptap or used it in one of your projects. Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack)
US-Based Remote
Engineering /
Full-Time
/ Remote
Health care is all about conversations, with over 2B spoken conversations each year between patients and their care teams in just the United States. However, people forget up to 80% of those conversations, leading to worse patient outcomes. And doctors are burning out writing notes in their EMRs instead of focusing on their patients. That’s where Abridge comes in our audio-based standalone and integrated solutions record and summarize medical conversations, anywhere care happens.
About the role:
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team. You’ll play a key role in helping us scale and mature our business by building and supporting new + existing web applications and their supporting backends. You’ll be writing code (mostly Typescript), making architectural decisions, recommending technologies to adopt, and ensuring that our systems scale up reliably and securely.
What you’ll do:
-
- Scale up our business by designing, building, and supporting easy-to-use web applications, including both front-end features and the backend services and data models that power them.
- Make & implement technology decisions that support business needs without compromising security, privacy or quality
- Enhance existing systems to add new functionality, and to improve performance, stability, quality, and security
- Advocate for high standards; make quality-of-life improvements to the codebase; and help limit the growth of technical debt
- Build deep user empathy and maintain a user-centric mindset
- Communicate regularly and effectively within and on behalf of our cross-functional product delivery teams. You’ll work with other disciplines including design, product, machine learning, and infrastructure, and will have opportunities to learn from and contribute to projects across the company
What you’ll bring:
-
- 5+ years experience building, shipping and operating web applications at scale. You’ve seen what works, and probably a few things that didn’t work.
- Experience as a lead engineer on a major component or subsystem of a software platform, or as the lead for the platform itself
- Excitement about working in our tech stack, which is primarily NodeJS (Typescript) and React running on Google Cloud (GCP)
- Ability to act with autonomy & self-direction while working well in a team environment
- Willingness to pitch in wherever needed – as a fast-moving startup we need to do good work, quickly
$175,000 – $205,000 a year
Based on pay transparency guidelines, a reasonable expectation for the salary range is listed, which applies to California, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, and Washington. The base salary range for other locations may vary. Actual base salary will be dependent on geographic location, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and/or other job-related factors. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may also be eligible to participate in a company stock option plan. Salary listed does not include total compensation, e.g. equity.
We value people who want to learn new things, and we know that great team members might not perfectly match a job description. If you’re interested in the role but aren’t sure whether or not you’re a good fit, we’d still like to hear from you.
Life at Abridge
At Abridge, we’re driven by our mission to bring understanding and follow-through to every medical conversation. Our culture is founded on doing things the inverse way in a legacy systemfocusing on patients, instead of the system; focusing on outcomes, instead of billing; and focusing on the end-user experience, instead of a hospital administrator’s mandate.
Abridgers are engineers, scientists, designers, and health policy experts from a erse set of backgroundsan experiment in alchemy that helps us transform an industry dominated by EHRs and enterprise into a consumer-driven experience, one recording at a time. We believe in strong ideas, loosely held, and place a high premium on a growth mindset. We push each other to grow and expose each other to the latest in our respective fields. Whether it’s holding a PhD-level deep e into understanding fairness and underlying bias in machine learning models, debating the merits of a Scandinavian design philosophy in our UI/UX, or writing responses for Medicare rules to influence U.S. health policy, we prioritize sharing our findings across the team and helping each other be successful.
Abridge is an equal opportunity employer. Diversity and inclusion is at the core of what we do. We actively welcome applicants from all backgrounds (including but not limited to race, gender, educational background, and sexual orientation).
