About the Role:

A founding blockchain engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of foundational components of Omni’s stack, spanning infrastructure and backend, while also having responsibilities to collaborate with the wider engineering team to improve our overall architecture and code quality.

While full stack engineers are focused on smart contract and application development, blockchain engineers are focused on node software and infrastructure. However, these are not strict rules – our team is small and flat, and there will be opportunities to contribute across the stack.

Responsibilities:

• Develop our core software stack from the design stage all the way to production ready implementations. Primarily in golang.
• Design, build, maintain, test, and improve our node software and coordinating agents to power our distributed networks
• Implement and optimize CI/CD to improve build and test times. Detect and improve performance, stability for microservices.
• Improve the design of peer’s architecture through thoughtful, professionally communicated feedback.
• Write performant SDKs and documentations enabling clients to interact with the Web3 APIs
• Contribute to open source projects and play a role in building out the crypto ecosystem at large.

Requirements:

• 3-7 years of experience in a backend software engineering role
• Significant experience with a systems language like Go (preferred), Rust, or C++
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Extensive experience managing the software development life cycle for medium to large projects
• Experience building SDKs, APIs, or otherwise building and maintaining a production system at scale
• Experience with AWS, GCP or similar cloud providers

As a Tech Lead you’ll be working directly with the CEO/founder (who has served as tech lead so far) as well as your technical team and others in the company - depending on what needs to be done. 

Our stack is the LAMP stack; we use MVC and are moving towards a modular monolith. We don’t use micro-services, Kubernetes or complex cloud offerings. We try to keep things as simple and stable as possible. Boring tech has fewer bugs and requires less maintenance which also equals happy developers.

Your personal desire should be to strive for simplicity. The code base is structured to make it easy to understand and simple to troubleshoot. We aim for code readability, even if this sometimes means more verbose code. We don’t code abstract functions trying to anticipate future needs we don’t yet know anything about. Usually we are wrong about what the future holds, and those abstractions make it harder to adapt the code. Coding to solve concrete well-known problems simplifies things both now and in the future. Our code architecture is sort of inspired by DDD. Each module is loosely coupled and isolated. 

Here is an example of what this might mean in a daily life: 

You need to code something that should cover the needs of 15 scenarios. After a week of intense thinking you come up with a single nice function following all best practices that handles it all. It will most likely be utterly incomprehensible to anyone but you, and you won’t understand it yourself after 6 months. When a bug surfaces in one of the 15 areas and you fix it, you end up breaking three of the other scenarios because consequences are hard to predict and see. What about the automated tests? It passes those with flying colors because the bugs are new. Instead your natural inclination and instinct should be to create 15 different functions with a good deal of overlap (by violating DRY). It is easier to code since you just handle one situation at a time, but a bit tedious. Others understand it, and when something breaks three years down the road, a fix only affects the intended area. Code review is much easier. 

You will discuss such things with the CEO/founder and part of the role is to protect and promote this architecture - and over time help bring it to the next level. 

You are a responsible person with a keen eye for details. When you say a ticket is ready for deployment, it means it is ready for deployment. You’ll ensure that the code has been properly reviewed and that it has been tested. You’ll need to test critical aspects yourself even if QA says it is ok, and it passed automated tests. The CEO will deploy the ticket to production.

About Active Learning

In machine learning, data curation is only part of the battle to create a successful model. Once data is labeled, it is used to train, validate, and test models with the goal of production deployment. Upon validation, an engineer may discover a model may perform well at predicting one particular subset or class of data, but struggle on another.

We support vendor risk assessments, security audits, and accessibility reviews for internal and external platforms. We also keep track of remediation and mitigation plans to comply with PCI, PII, SOC2, ISO 27001, and WCAG. Our team provides endpoint support for our two sites in PR and works closely with our IT counterparts in the US offices to leverage knowledge and best practices.

The Opportunity: 

As a Full Stack Engineer on the Software Development Team you will prepare, guide, and execute design strategies based on best practices and company standards to improve our products for the students we serve. You will develop code that is aligned with our AWS North Star goals, and you will research new technology to enable future application migration to a modern tech stack. You will help to maintain applications and work to identify opportunities that enhance business process effectiveness through technology. You will guide and execute the troubleshooting and resolution of problems within the production, quality/test, and development operating environments.

In this role, you will: 

Development and implementation (60%) 

• Execute the construction of new or existing software developments.  
• Perform unit testing and coordinate end user testing of software for company applications. 
• Coordinate the deployment of new or existing software developments. 
• Communicate complex technical information to the Software Development Director in a timely, concise, and coherent manner. 

Strategy and design (30%) 

• Prepare design strategies based on best practices and company standards for new or existing software design and architecture.
• Research new technology and prepare recommendations. 
• Design solutions that follow College Board’s security policies and accessibility standards 
• Facilitates and translates business needs into business requirements and systems designs. 
• Drives the agile delivery of user-centric applications by preparing storyboards and mockups. 
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of industry trends and evolving technology to recommend strategic improvements for the continuous maintenance and optimization of our systems where applicable. 
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies. 

Maintenance and support (10%) 

• Provides technical assistance in primary areas of competence and task management support. 
• Provide technical support to third parties regarding the use, understanding, design, and implementation of College Board products, providing end user and on-site support when required. 
• Provide timely, through and audience appropriate communications in response to inquiries, and when proactive and preemptive actions are needed inform team members and management. 
• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required. 

About you, you have:

• Bachelors in computer science or engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience 
• Experience in legacy technologies like C#.Net, VB.Net, JavaScript, PHP, C#, SQL, etc.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS, Business intelligence (BI) tools like SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and automated testing software 
• Experienced in Cloud Computing, DevOps, and Microservices and experience working with AWS resources such as Lambda, S3, Step Functions, EC2, and RDS 
• Knowledgeable and passionate about processes that promote quality, operational efficiency, and business continuity within our software systems. 
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English

The role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced SGX engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of Intel SGX architecture, its security features, and have hands-on experience with programming using SGX SDK.

Responsibilities

• Developing a fast EVM environment that can be used within an SGX
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop and deploy SGX solutions
• Build and maintain brand-new products for searchers, miners, and retail users
• Contribute to the roadmap of the product
