01 — Overview
**Industry Problems
**Restaurants often have staff who have worked with them for years (sometimes decades) whose work goes unnoticed and unrecognized. This dynamic can lead to people feeling unseen and unvalued. When this happens, staff will get burnt out and want to quit.
**
Product Solution**We are creating a web app to positively reinforce restaurant staff so they continue to work hard at their jobs. The app will give managers the ability to create tasks, allow makers to complete tasks, and for performance to be tracked and rewarded. Makers will appreciate the app because they will be incentivized to keep working hard and at high quality. Managers will enjoy the app because they will have the ability to easily organize their kitchen staff’s work and see helpful analytics on their staff performance.
02 — Scope
Role
We need a frontend Vue 3 developer who can create an Ionic app from screen components in Storybook. Our app is using the Ionic framework with Vue 3 and has already been initialized. We have a dedicated UI developer (Josh) who creates the screen UIs from designs in Figma. Your responsibility would be to take those UIs and give them functionality, creating the finished product by integrating with backend APIs written by our backend developer (Dhanish).
**
Expertise Required**- Vue 3 (not just Vue 2)
- Progressive Web Apps (PWA), especially current cross-platform capabilities
- Calling a backend API (HTTP)
**
Proficiency with**- Typescript
- Asynchronous code (async/await, or promises)
- CSS Custom Properties (aka CSS Variables)
**
Helpful experience**- Ionic Framework (v6)
- Firebase / Google Cloud
**
Bonus points**- You have experience with Storybook
- You've worked with state machines (XState)
**
Budget**We will be payed per epic. More to come in next phase of the onboarding process.
**
Utilization**You’ll be expected to complete a mutually agreed upon set of tasks per one-week sprint until the epic is completed.
**
Timeline**Each sprint needs to be finished in 1-2 months
03 — Project Process
**
Method**This project will be organized in a one-week sprint structure. We will hold the following meetings to help stay aligned and on track:
- Monday morning Sprint Review and Planning to look over the work that we’ve accomplished, address any inefficiencies, and identify the tasks we will focus on next.
- Frequent text-based stand-ups to make sure we are all on track and not blocked
**
Project Leads**- Anthony Rajski — Product Owner
- Josh Loya — UI Developer
- Dhanish Mehta — Backend Developer
04 — Next Steps
Step 1
Developer to send a 3-5 minute video which shows a demo of a web app made using Vue. Video should include:
- A look at the front-end functionality
- A look at the code
- Comments on what role the developer played in creating the app
NOTE: Developers who do not submit this video will not be considered as highly as those who do. Sending this video shows you've read this far, demonstrate the value of collaboration, and respect the hiring process we're implementing.
**
Step 2**Company to share the repository and API documentation for review.
**
Step 3**An optional skill assessment to ensure developer has the expertise needed for the project.
**
Step 4**Sign contractor agreement and begin the project.
The basics
- The stack: Postgres, Node.js/Express.js, React. Currently running on Heroku, eventually AWS
- The product: We're building the first subscription intelligence platform that empowers finance teams to get real-time snapshots of how their subscription business is performing!
- The way we work:
- This is a remote job - work anywhere you want, and in any timezone on earth (or outside earth, whatever).
- We are an asynchronous team - we don't do scheduled meetings, and rely on each team member to pick their own schedule and to communicate clearly in writing and with recorded videos. Hear from our co-founder Michelle Lee on what it's like to work asynchronously (click here).
- We operate completely autonomously - no one will tell you what to do, we'll just tell you the goals and you will figure out how to work towards them with the rest of the team.
- The role you'll play on our team:
- You'd be one of the first seven engineers on the team.
- You'll work on
- Backend: database design and implementation, complex data management problems, API design and implementation, writing tests
- Frontend: building features in our react app, HTML/CSS + styled components, building amazing user experiences, writing tests
- Frontend and backend: building and iterating on our product, collaborating with designers and founders, and making a product that users will love.
- Like all start-ups we're scrappy, but not scrappy on compensation: Subscript is committed to paying our awesome team members at market-rate, including benefits.
**Our interview process
**Our interview process is designed to focus on your skills as a software engineer, and your ability to communicate clearly. We're a fully asynchronous company, so that's how we will communicate in this interview process too 🙂.
- We'll ask you to work on a small code challenge
- After reviewing the short code challenge, we'll ask you to work on a ~90 minute exercise while recording a loom (or other screen recording) video.
- If the video interview above goes well, we'll want to learn a bit more about how you communicate in writing - we will ask you to put together a technical design document. This is one of the biggest ways we communicate at Subscript, so we want to see that you can work well with that!
And finally, hopefully we'll send you an offer. And hopefully you'll accept!
**Requirements
**- You're an excellent engineer (you write high quality code, you write great tests, you ship quickly)
- You're a great communicator via writing, and via recorded videos.
- You're excited about working on a globally-distributed and erse team, in an incredibly unique culture where autonomy, accountability, and ownership are equally as valued as your skillset.
- That's it!

- Completely flexible work schedule - work literally anytime (and anywhere) you want!
- Benefits appropriate to your location (health/dental/vision in the USA)
- Company wide retreats multiple times per year

Why join us? ❤️
The team is really cool and ambitious, the offices are amazing - we don't have any 😂, you can work from wherever you want on our beautiful planet 🌍* and you get to participate in sharing smiles (this is an opportunity to sell a product that doesn't keep you up at night!).
* If you want a ticket to the moon 🌗 it's still expensive but we should be able to help reserve a spot for you ;)
But also...
It is an opportunity...
* To play a major role in the growth of an ambitious company
* To join a company whose mission is to put people at the heart of its business and to have a real impact on the lives of its customers and their community (owners, travelers, family...)
* The opportunity to contribute to a culture that combines performance, ambition and well-being. A culture so strong that our A players would never consider working anywhere else.
Smily is also...
* A team always in great spirits taking on a global market populated by dinosaurs 🦖🦕or uninspired companies that are just there to take advantage of a market opportunity
* Waking up in the morning with the feeling that you're making millions of people's lives better and helping them achieve their dreams
* The ability to work from wherever you want (by the pool, in the woods or on your stand-up desk)
* A remote culture from day one: we're always experimenting with new ways to make telecommuting as warm and cool as possible. For example, some people challenge themselves to do sports or meditation.
* A company culture based on autonomy
* Being surrounded by A-Players
* A guarantee of being pushed to progress
* A growing company, synonymous with development opportunities!
But that's not all, because we put team well-being at the heart of our strategy:
* Flexible locations: you're encouraged to work from wherever inspires and suits you best. Whether it's to enjoy the best kitesurfing spots 🪁🏄♀️ or spend more time with your family.
* Flexible hours: what's important to us is the value you bring much more than the time you work - even if you will be required to maintain moments of sharing and communication with the team ;)
* Your own boss: we are partners and work as equals. Our relationship does not work out of a sense of obligation but out of a common will and effort to strengthen it on a daily basis.
* Team building / Team retreats: we meet in a corner of paradise on our planet to share good times together, discuss our vision, celebrate our victories and brainstorm the next crazy challenge.

Interview process
How to apply?❌ Any copied and pasted, non-personalized applications will go straight into the trash.
⚠️ To get to the end of the recruitment process, each candidate might be asked to set up calls with their previous managers. If you're not comfortable with this idea: don't apply ⚠️
TO APPLY
Simply fill out a short questionnaire by clicking on "Apply for this position". We will ask you to attach your C.V. (we will not consider incomplete applications) :
In its early days, Google did 12 job interviews.
Apple still does between 9 and 12.
We do 4.
Some may think that's still too many, but for us it's the right balance to make sure the job is right for you.
Because we don’t want for you or for us to realize in 3 or 6 months that this job is not for you: we want to do everything we can to avoid that sort of situation, which is always uncomfortable. For you and for us!
The recruitment process is as follows
* 📃A quick 7 or 8 min questionnaire - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BPzeoeOgiSO2kL36vXsBC0KJBUEJe7XBv4guu45WFso
* 📞 ⚙️A 60 min TECHNICAL interview to align with what would be expected of you and assess your specific skills
* 📞🌟A 60 min CULTURE interview by Zoom or phone to further understand your background and check in depth alignment with our values and culture
* 📞 👥A 60 min TEAM interview with your future team to ensure the desire to work together on a daily basis
* ⚠️ 👥 Reference Calls: you may be asked to arrange at least 3 calls with former managers or clients for us. We do this because it provides assurance for you and for the team to be surrounded by A-Players, and it's also a way to get to know you and facilitate your onboarding.
* 👪 Welcome home!

**About us
**We’re a bunch of like-minded people who love e-commerce and Shopify. We’ve built several SaaS apps for Shopify that are used by more than 10.000 businesses all over the world.
We don’t consider ourselves as just a startup, a regular "9-to-5 company", or a corporate. What we are, though, is a dynamic company that combines the best from each world. - Ability to take responsibility for complex tasks: provide technical analysis based on business requirements, gather necessary feedback from your colleagues, implement it, and successfully deploy your solution. Ideally, you should love to work this way.
- Have good communication skills, be proactive, capable of open discussion, present and defend your solution, as well as accept constructive feedback. You’re self-driven and goal-oriented.
- You have experience working remotely. We have an office in Karlin, Prague that is fully available for you, but our team is remote-first.

- We operate as a truly remote-first and async-first company. Anyone can freely choose a place and time of their work. We care about the outputs and results.

About Flashbots
Flashbots started in 2020 as a research and development organization formed to mitigate the negative externalities and existential risks posed by Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) to smart-contract blockchains, starting with Ethereum. We build products to maximally decentralize public blockchains, redistribute MEV, and empower users. We work closely with our community to ensure that our products have a positive impact, are secure, and can be used in production at scale.
Our Impact
Since the launch of Flashbots, we have had an immense impact on the world of cryptocurrency. The Flashbots Auction was launched in alpha in January 2021 and was quickly adopted by almost all Ethereum miners. Prior to Ethereum’s Merge in 2022, Flashbots launched MEV-Boost, a temporary solution for out-of-protocol proposer-builder separation. MEV-Boost has since been adopted by over 90% of Ethereum validators and has significantly influenced the Ethereum PoS ecosystem. Now, Flashbots continues its journey with the introduction of MEV-Share as we continue our journey toward SUAVE.
Our Research
Flashbots Research is an independent arm of the organization that aims to become the hub of MEV research. In addition to conducting in-house analysis, Flashbots Research collaborates with external researchers at other institutions via an external grants program. Flashbots Research continues to publish seminal research on MEV, covering a wide range of topics including cross-chain MEV, EIP1559 and MEV, how ETH2 affects MEV, SGX and privacy, and more.
