About you
You’ll consider yourself to be a mid-senior level developer with solid technical ability and good communication, but what really sets you apart is your interest in product engineering. You’re not interested in pumping out leetcode, but instead you’re looking for a rewarding, creative environment in which to write, prototype, iterate and ship where your work has immediate real-world impact on doctors and patients. Carebit sees itself less as a tech startup and more of a product-led studio, where customers come to us with their problems and we use our platform, features and tools to solve them. Our staff often visit customers to see how they work, feeding back and getting new features designed and shipped for them.
You’ll be user-focussed and empathetic, and won’t think twice about arranging a video call with the customer to find out their motivations behind a feature request and digging deeper into the problem. It’s likely, as we have found so many times, that there’s even more gold to be found down there if you just keep looking. You’ll enjoy shipping quickly and the rapid dopamine hits from solving customer problems with grateful feedback.
The role
We have a really exciting roadmap already planned out for 2023 which you’ll help deliver, but equally some of our best features come from prototyping and tinkering. We believe 10 small tweaks can easily surpass 1 big feature in terms of utility, so there is plenty of time available for that too. We encourage taking the time out to refactor, optimise and write tests - this is a platform we are building for the next 100 years.
You’ll be working closely alongside Dominic, our founder and CTO. He’s worked with startups and product studios like BCG X and built Carebit from an internal tool into what it is today.
A typical day might consist of discussing customer issues on standup, and perhaps taking a couple to work on during the day. We love quick wins at Carebit. Alternatively, you might choose to get your head down for a few hours to really focus on a big feature from the roadmap. As you might expect from a company founded by a software developer, we don’t do bureaucracy and constant interruptions at Carebit!
The culture
Ultimately, we want Carebit to be a great place for curious, autonomous people to do their life’s work. We know how important time and space is for creative thinking (as well as the freedom to try new features and prototype new ideas in production), so that’s what we make time for. This isn't an environment where you’ll be told what to do: there’s a strongly collaborative element but we’ll trust in you to take ownership and take a key role in product at Carebit. If you enjoy that, you’ll feel right at home here.
Skill requirements
- Proven ability to take a brief idea from a customer to a designed, shipped and tested feature that wows
- Ability to see the big picture when building a feature (e.g. how it can be made modular or flexible to accommodate changes in future, or where else could it be deployed in the Carebit application?)
- A keen eye for UI and UX, colour, simplicity and hierarchy
- 3+ years of Rails and Ruby experience (we’re on Ruby 3.1 and Rails 7)
- 3+ years of React + JavaScript ES6 experience
- Experience with AWS and Docker desirable
- Infrastructure knowledge a definite bonus
- Personal startup/side project experience desirable - even if it never took off or went anywhere! We'd love to hear about it.
Benefits
- Salary in the range of £70-80k + annual bonus
- Fully remote within 4 hours of UTC (if UK based, we usually meet up in London every 2-3 months)
- MacBook Pro, ergonomic chair and anything else you need to do your best work
To apply, please send your CV with a cover letter telling us about your experience in product engineering and development specifically. Ideally this will include examples of your work if possible, or describing your development process from idea all the way through to design and development.

We’re searching for an experienced senior developer with infrastructure experience to join our team. You’ll be focused on maintaining and improving the infrastructure of our application, and improving the application itself by developing new features and second-level customer support as needed..
Our current front end stack: Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Redis, AWS (RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, EC2, S3), Vue.js, Angular (legacy code being replaced with Vue.js), Ansible, Linux.
A typical day could involve:
- About 60% of your time would be spent on improving the app by adding features and improvements.
- Another 30% would be maintaining the infrastructure of our applications, and proposing and implementing improvements where needed.
- The last 10% would be handling customer issues/queries.
- Sharing infrastructure/application maintenance knowledge to share load and increase redundancy.
- Providing 2nd level support when a developer with production access is required.
- Standing in for our CTO/Co-Founder when he’s on leave.
- Being part of the on-call rotation (out of hours) via PagerDuty.
This is a rare opportunity to lead the infrastructure in a small but profitable company and work directly with the CTO. You’ll learn how our current infrastructure works and will be free to explore and suggest ways to improve it.
To be effective, you’ll need the following:
- Several years experience as Senior Software Engineer or Lead. We expect you to have ‘owned’ the infrastructure in your previous team(s).
- Strong skills across Linux servers and database maintenance, PostgreSQL and Ruby/Rails internals.
- AWS knowledge is required (advanced experience is a big plus).
- Advanced JavaScript frameworks and HTML/CSS knowledge would be a plus (Vue, React), basic knowledge is required.
- Demonstrated ability to be pragmatic and keep a cool head under stress (when the application is down, customers are complaining, and you have to figure out what’s wrong and how to recover).
- The ability to work independently and make decisions without constant external control, and to find ways to solve issues in one way or another, without getting stuck.
- Highly effective communication skills (written and spoken).
As a remote team, we value iniduals who can take initiative to make things happen, are responsive and conscientious, and who value feedback and can use it effectively.
Why join us?
As a bootstrapped, profitable company, we don’t have to worry about the next funding round or how much runway we have. We offer competitive salaries, a great work/life balance and the support you need, whether that’s a laptop, coworking space subscription, or books and courses to develop your skills. Plus:
- Work anywhere you like. Our team is spread across Australia, Greece, Indonesia, Portugal, Serbia, Thailand, Ukraine, and the USA.
- Arrange your time to suit you. As long as you're doing the ~37.5 hours a week and organising your time to facilitate synchronous work when needed, the 'when' is up to you.
- We encourage you to work on side projects for fun and profit.
- Only a handful of meetings per year and no ridiculous deadlines.
- Remote first culture. We were built this way.
We ensure you get to know your team with Friday drinks (remote unless we’re in the same city) and yearly in-person retreats.
To be considered, apply now (including a short covering note, introducing yourself) and I'll be in touch (Rebecca). We have a streamlined, straight-forward interview process and make decisions swiftly, and we’ll always give you feedback.
Note: This is a fully remote role but we are searching for an inidual located outside of the Australian timezone - we want an on-call rotation where nobody needs to get out of bed.

About Vector
Vector is building a video platform for B2B sellers. Video is the most powerful form of communication - async, digestible and personal. But current solutions are broken and antiquated. They lack beauty, innovation, and serve as \"tools\" versus full solutions for driving pipeline & revenue.
About the role 🚀
We're looking for a Founding Engineer to join us in building the future of how B2B sales teams will leverage video to engage with their prospects and close deals.
As previous Go-To-Market execs, Nick (Co-Founder, COO) and I (Joshua - Co-Founder, CEO) know how to identify the needs of our users and build an enduring company, but we're looking for a talented and equally hungry Founding Engineer that wants to make an epic product & company.
You will play a key role in the early design of our web application architecture and the development of our Engineering and Product teams. You will have the opportunity to not only architect and build systems, but also shape the organization itself. This is a high ownership, impact, and visibility role in building a product that will directly impact the future of Vector. Vector engineers will become an expert on the industry and spend time talking to users, planning our product roadmap, and working on go-to-market initiatives. As an early member of a new team, you’ll also play a major role in shaping the team’s culture and organization to help us scale.
What You'll Do
* Have complete ownership in translating product roadmap to code (we're looking for someone with strong opinions who can level us up, and understands the balance between moving quickly and building for scalability)
* Ship new, innovative technology at a high velocity* Listen to users and help shape what we build* Make recommendations on Product/Engineering team growth (with potential to lead, if interested)* Push the boundaries of browser-side video editing (or at least the perception of \"video editing\"... #HTMLCanvas)* Build scrappy (and eventually scalable) video hosting and serving infrastructure* Innovate with technology like AI voice/video synthesis, real-time notifications, etc. What We're Looking For
* 3+ years building in a production environment
* Experience with standing up a variety of early stage backend concepts: user management, access control, Stripe billing, endpoints/business logic, early stage database design* Bonus: server-side video technologies (FFMPEG, CDN, object storage) - we'll probably use video.api for encoding/scaling so not a dealbreaker* You're okay with monoliths, moving quickly and your brain doesn't explode when your try/catch doesn't have retry logic (at least on day one)* Act like an owner: Autonomy in a role that will supercharge your growth both professionally and personally* Ready to build a culture that will be the foundation of this business for decades* Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with folks who have different working styles* Previous leadership experience to include hiring, onboarding and training a successful team, is a plus* This position is for U.S. based applicants only",
