The purpose of the Legal Assistant Consumer Litigation position is to support all aspects of the Company’s management of contested litigation.

Outcomes and Activities:

• This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at an office location if requested by the team member.
• Manage the intake, initial assessment of, and timely and compliantly responding to all contested deficiency lawsuits, claims against the Company, attorney letters (Contested Matters) and subpoenas.
• Provide recommendations and support on Contested Matters to Company attorneys
• Timely escalates potential issues to Company attorneys and outside counsel. Receive, log, review, investigate, and make recommendations on Contested Matters and subpoenas served on the Company
• Monitor and report on the status of Contested Matters to ensure that they are properly categorized and responded to in a timely and compliant manner
• Manage discovery requests, including preparing initial response and finalizing with the support of Company attorneys
• Oversee aspects of the Company’s relationship with law firms
• Assist as needed in investigating and responding to other consumer complaints

Hopper is seeking an experienced international transactional attorney to join its growing global legal team as Associate Counsel for its Fintech and Cloud Business.

In this role, you will report to the Deputy General Counsel and work closely with the growing Fintech and Cloud legal team, product leads, and other senior business partners to drive and execute commercial contracts with Hopper’s B2B partners around the world. In doing so, you will provide innovative solutions to cross-border remittance issues arising under complex commercial contracts that will govern the provision of Hopper’s travel and fintech services to airlines, banks and online travel agencies and their respective customers. Primary Responsibilities:

• Negotiate, draft and close the distributed fintech and Cloud contracts that contribute to Hopper’s success. Research indirect tax issues in foreign markets to address questions from prospective B2B partners that arise in contracting. Devise tax efficient solutions to withholding issues, taking into account Hopper’s corporate structure. Achieve optimal results in B2B contract negotiating across a wide range of legal topics, such as intellectual property, sanctions compliance, payments regulation and data privacy. Partner with business development on commercial negotiations.
• Advise product teams on a range of issues in developing innovative product structures, including new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting Hopper’s B2B distribution of fintech products, travel portals and website services (a new area of growth for Hopper).
• Help scope and build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new products, including drafting and maintaining terms and conditions for products sold on Hopper’s sites and its B2B partners’ sites.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Qualifications

• J.D. degree (and membership in good standing) with at least one state bar.
• Proven experience in supporting B2B SaaS Sales Teams and advising on privacy legal risks, with a strong knowledge of pertinent privacy laws, especially GDPR and CCPA.

Position Summary:

KIND seeks a paralegal to support KIND’s delivery of legal services to KIND clients across KIND field offices and teams through a range of case support tasks in coordination with our attorneys. The National Team is comprised of attorneys and paralegals who fill a critical role at KIND by deploying remotely and, as needed, in person, to work with field offices experiencing staffing vacancies. Members of the National Team also work across KIND to help identify trends and patterns. KIND supports children returning to their home countries by connecting them to essential support services and sponsors gender-based violence prevention programs in Central America to protect children in countries of origin and transit.

KIND is also building upon its expertise in the protection of unaccompanied children to encourage the development of pro bono initiatives across Europe in partnership with European NGOs.

Position Summary:

KIND seeks a full-time Paralegal to join its Family Separation team within the organization’s Legal Services component. The Paralegal will be part of KIND’s legal strategy, technical assistance and training arm within the Legal Services team and will report to a Senior Attorney on the Family Separation Team. The Paralegal will may work remotely, or can be based in any one of KIND’s field offices.

The Paralegal will work alongside the Managing Attorney and the rest of the Family Separation Team, to provide legal and administrative support to assist children and families impacted by family separation and other emerging legal and policy changes affecting migrant children seeking safe haven in the U.S. The Paralegal will provide litigation assistance, data management, legal support, and office administration in a cutting-edge area of work on behalf of highly vulnerable children. The paralegal will undertake case support tasks in coordination with attorneys, including conducting client intakes, legal research, preparation of immigration forms, drafting affidavits, maintaining files and data, hearing preparation, social services referrals, and other related duties.

Essential Functions:

• Provide legal, administrative, operations, and program support to attorneys working on family separation matters;
• Conduct client phone screenings and intake interviews and draft intake memoranda, and conduct initial assessment of case referrals received against case acceptance criteria and program priorities;
• Provide support for on-going FTCA litigation and administrative claims, including tracking cases and dates of filing, communicating and coordinating with pro bono and non-profit partners, calling clients, and providing support in preparation of documents for filing in federal litigation;
• Provide support to attorneys on in-house cases, including conducting legal research and country conditions research; filling out immigration benefit and other standard forms; submitting case file records requests to government agencies; drafting affidavits and basic motions; assisting with hearing and interview preparation; maintaining case files and data entry in case management database; and other tasks as needed;
• Serve as point of contact for clients, proactively ensuring that case files and case management system reflect current contact information and status updates on case developments and child’s wellbeing;
• Provide support to pro bono attorneys during case placement and assist with administrative and planning tasks related to pro bono attorney training and mentoring;
• Ensure that client and case information is kept up to date in the case management database, and assist in data reporting for internal reports and for external reports to funders;
• For direct representation cases, conduct regular check-ins with the child, particularly in cases in which case adjudication is delayed; update attorneys regarding new developments, as needed;
• For pro bono cases, assist in case audit efforts, ensuring that updates from pro bono attorneys regarding case status and child’s wellbeing and timely and accurately recorded;
• For cases involving detained, forcibly separated children, screen referrals and assist in locating detained parents, as well as facilitate communication with detained parents and family members in the child’s home country;
• Help assess the needs of repatriating separated children for social services in their home country and make referrals to KIND’s Reintegration and Repatriation program as needed;
• Support KIND’s role in communicating with and assisting members of the expanded class of parents who were forcibly separated from their children and have been recently identified through litigation;
• Provide remote assistance to the Managing Attorney for the Family Separation & Special Programs team, particularly on maintaining case data, conducting phone screenings, and making referrals to potential clients;
• Liaise with Social Services Coordinators regarding social services needs and referrals; assist with social services projects depending on office needs, including expenditure and tracking of emergency assistance funds; and work collaboratively to achieve programmatic goals where legal services/social services intersect;
• Support internal budgetary tracking; ensure appropriate tracking of client emergency fees and other expenditures; logging of expenses and receipts; reporting expenses for grant tracking purposes;
• Review, edit, and format guidance documents, narrative reports for funders, and other documents as needed;
• Assist with editing and/or translating Spanish language documents. Coordinate external interpreter resources where needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree;
• Advanced fluency in Spanish language;
• Minimum 1-year experience working with children, at-risk youth, immigrants, refugees, and/or vulnerable populations;

You will report to our Corporate Counsel and work with our LPC team at our New York City headquarters or remotely.

What you will do:

• Maintain and file corporate records (including resolutions, board of directors changes, annual reports) and assist with the contract execution process and the implementation of a new contract management system.
• Provide administrative support for documents and activities related to new corporate entity formations and other corporate activities and restructurings.
• Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of template corporate governance policies, standard legal contracts, and matrixes and playbooks for standard legal workstreams.
• Research regulations, laws, case law and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, blog articles and legal advice.
• Assist with coordinating with outside legal counsel and other third-party vendors used by the LPC team.

What you will need:

• You hold a Bachelor’s degree.
• You have 2+ years of relevant corporate paralegal experience in a major law firm or mid-sized technology company.
• You have a strong proficiency in Google Suites, including Word, Excel, and Gmail.

Job Summary:

This is an in-house counsel role with the Legal Department’s Dispute Resolution Services – Corporate Litigation group, which principally manages class litigation and complex litigation challenging the company’s policies, practices and procedures. The primary duties of this role include managing complex litigation and legal issues faced by the company and its subsidiaries and affiliates, as well as providing advice and counsel to the business with respect to emerging legal issues and risks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing lawsuits and other legal disputes, including overseeing outside counsel in defense of such matters
• Interviewing and retaining law firms/ outside counsel, including managing budgets
• Reviewing and developing appropriate strategies for assigned matters
• Reviewing and revising pleadings, motions and significant case filings
• Serving as strategic legal partner to business, providing reports on substantive developments in legal matters, as well as advice and counsel on risk mitigation strategies and legal compliance
• Developing strategy for and participating in mediations/settlement conferences
• Preparing/reviewing settlement agreements
• Analyzing, responding to agency charges, and representing company at agency hearings
• Internally overseeing discovery process, including reviewing discovery requests and developing strategy and responses, collecting and producing internal documents, coordinating e-discovery, and interviewing information custodians and/or fact witnesses
• Assisting with preparing fact, corporate and expert witnesses for depositions, arbitrations and trials, and attending depositions, as appropriate
• Attending court appearances, as appropriate, including significant hearings, trials, mediations, and settlement conferences
• Actively participating in cross-functional teams to assess business practices and procedures and proactively counsel on emerging issues and legal/litigation risks
• Preparing and presenting various internal and external reports on significant litigation and legal issues
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

• Ideal candidate will have 7+ years of complex litigation experience; class litigation experience is required; insurance experience is preferred.
• J.D. from an accredited institution and active state bar license in good standing
• Motivated self-starter with legal acumen and business knowledge
• Collaborative team player
• Ability to communicate views effectively, verbally and in writing, and represent position to internal and external stakeholders, including senior level executives
• Leadership experience with assignments and cross functional projects
