What success looks like in this role:

E-Billing, Outside Counsel / Vendor Management, Technology / Data Management

• Serve as the internal owner of OGC’s e-billing operation, including assisting with onboarding of vendors and outside counsel, management and enforcement of OGC’s Billing Guidelines, and directing outside counsel regarding e-billing and related matters.
• Ensure that OGC has updated and reliable data in its case management software.
• Lead extensive data collection and reporting process for risk management and insurance reporting requirements.
• Serve as liaison with USC’s Information Technology Systems in implementing and utilizing legal technology systems.
• Provide education and support to OGC staff in use of technology tools for matter and law firm management.

Financial Management

• Monitor legal spend for OGC, including proactive reporting to determine trends in terms legal spend and case types, and progress against budget, goals, and benchmarks.
• Help to manage OGC’s budgeting and internal financial reporting, including the preparation of regular reports and presentations regarding budgets and spend.
• Collaborate with the Finance Department in developing, managing, and forecasting the outside counsel budget.
• Compile and analyze data in order to produce dashboards, success metrics, analytics, and reports for various audiences.
• Own law firm and consultant engagements, including reviewing and negotiating agreements and rates consistent with Billing Guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities Might Include

• Manage a variety of short and long-term special projects for OGC as determined by the General Counsel and directed by the Associate General Counsel.
• Oversee the development of the web presence and functionality for OGC.

Reporting directly to the Head of HR, you will work closely with the Compliance, Regulations, AdminOps, and Operations Teams to drive strategy for our legal geographic expansion processes such as state licenses, city registrations, project permits, and customer & subcontractor contracts. Additionally, you may also support decisions and provide guidance around company insurance, review company contracts, track and monitor compliance and advise on legal and compliance issues.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable running a team and building playbooks and lean processes at the ground level.

Responsibilities

• Research and create a strategic plan to meet the national compliance needs which vary by state and city
  • Ensure state/city licenses and registrations are obtained on time to support geo expansion
  • Ensure state and local compliance across customer and sub-contractor contracts pre-geo launch
  • Develop scalable processes for city registrations and project permits with TAT that give us a competitive edge

• Under attorney supervision, you may be asked to draft basic pleadings and correspondence, interview potential witnesses, and assist with investigations, strong communication and writing skills are a must.
• Under attorney supervision, you may serve as a point of contact for our clients in both complex litigation and direct representation. Your tasks may include conducting intake interviews, scheduling legal calls, and helping to update clients on the status of our advocacy.

Your work may include reviewing and coding evidence for pending cases, conducting basic, factual research, and drafting program-related outreach; so, you will need to be able to internalize the aspects and needs of a project on both a macro and micro level.
• Computer + social media skills. The paralegal will do web-based research and use Microsoft programs, scheduling platforms, and specialized litigation software. You will also be involved with social media strategy—including staying engaged in the movement landscape, uplifting others’ posts and creating original content for the project.
• Ability to work well with other people and alone. Under attorney supervision, the ideal candidate will be comfortable interacting with potential and current clients, court personnel, cooperating and opposing counsel, and the wide variety of people who contact our organization. While teamwork is really important at CREEC, you’ll also do well here if you’re a self-starter within parameters defined by attorney supervisors. You’ll have opportunities to take ownership of projects that are assigned to you and to suggest strategies, so you should be willing to take initiative, and work independently when advised. Lastly, although we try to maintain contact with our team through email, chats, and weekly check-ins, this is a remote position that lacks the in-person interaction that one would get if working with colleagues in a physical office. The ideal candidate will be aware of and comfortable with the unique challenges of a remote environment, including in onboarding, fostering connection and collaboration with a long-distance team, and time management.

Salary & Benefits

This is a non-exempt hourly position, with a 7.5 hr work day and 37.5-hour work week. A paralegal in the Denver area, with 5 years’ experience, would have a pay rate of $34.68/hr. Actual pay is commensurate with internal pay scales at CREEC, and is based on years’ experience, geographic location of the candidate, and other factors.

Minimum Qualifications

Summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced paralegal to join this fun, collaborative and people-first business. The position is based in the US and may either be remote from the US or work from the Group’s local offices in NV or TN. The Legal Department formed a paralegal team to centralize the paralegal work for most of the Company’s operational and contract legal requests. The position of Paralegal Gaming will be responsible for providing day-to-day paralegal support to in-house counsel in multiple jurisdictions regarding gaming and regulatory business and legal issues with different levels of complexity including, but not limited to, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, processing, revising, tracking, and filing of agreements as well as providing assistance with litigation, corporate governance, special projects and performing other operational assignments for the Company and its subsidiaries.

What You’ll Do

• Under direction of in-house legal counsel, develop low and medium effort legal documents that require minimum independent drafting (mostly by utilizing Company approved templates or modifying same), processing, revising, tracking, and filing agreements; including, but not limited to, game sales and leases, system sales, sponsorship agreements, development agreements, agreements for professional services, information technology, intellectual property license agreements, and non-disclosure agreements
• Under direction of in-house legal counsel, develop high effort legal documents that require significant independent drafting (either creating such agreements from conception or by utilizing Company approved templates), reviewing vendor agreements, processing, revising, tracking, and filing agreements
• Draft corporate consents, resolutions and other corporate documents, coordinate appointment and removal of all corporate officers and directors
• Provide litigation support by preparing quarterly litigation reports, coordinating document production, issuing and tracking legal holds, corresponding with insurers regarding pending claims and facilitating the execution of affidavits and subpoenas
• Lead or assist with real estate, marketing, development, licensing, financing, corporate, and commercial special projects
• Conduct basic, intermediate, and advanced legal, regulatory, and business-related research for in-house counsel and clients as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 5 years’ paralegal experience at a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or equivalent legal experience, with extensive drafting experience and broad exposure to negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts
