At Pocket, we love what we do, but more importantly we are building something that millions of people love, too. Pocket has become crucial to how over 100M people discover and consume content worthy of their time and attention.
We’re looking for a passionate and skilled iOS engineer to provide technical expertise and bring to life key aspects of our iOS app.
If you are passionate about using technology to improve people’s lives, we believe Pocket has challenges that will excite you. We’re a small team within a well-established organization (Pocket was acquired by Mozilla in 2017), and that means lots of opportunity to build, learn and grow in a variety of areas, collaborate closely with fellow team members from many different fields, and to own things from start to finish that have tremendous impact on large numbers of people.
Our iOS app has been recognized time and again as a leader on the platform. Our users agree: Pocket for iOS is one of the few mobile apps that can claim a decade of near-perfect user ratings. We take advantage of new iOS features as they are announced, and we’re regularly featured by Apple in App Store promotions.
Come work with us and make a huge impact.
What you’ll do:
- Help define the future of our iOS product by partnering with us to re-think, re-architect, and rebuild a formative App Store experience one that’s been shipping continuously since iOS 2.0.
- Create a dynamic, flexible, native user experience that allows our users to discover, save, organize, consume, and share millions of articles.
- Provide technical expertise by proposing new solutions, illuminating risks and trade-offs, and collaborating with your teammates to build consensus and confidence in our initiatives.
- Work closely with our existing mobile engineers to build an extraordinary engineering experience for yourself and your peers.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, designers, product managers, and support teams to create a wonderful product experience for Pocket’s iOS users.
- Contribute daily to decisions affecting Pocket’s future, and its mobile and desktop platform.
What you already have:
- Eight years of general industry experience, and at least 6 years of hands-on experience with iOS development.

- Experience resolving problems, signaling risk, fostering change, and facilitating collaborative decision-making in a cross-functional team.
- Confidence building things natively with Apple first-party libraries and tools UIKit, Core Graphics, Core Data, Grand Central Dispatch, etc.
- Appreciation for how your tools work. You’ve experienced the ins and outs of memory management; you understand the responder chain; and you can explain locks, threads, queues, and semaphores
- Passion for communication partnerships. You take pride in your ability to explain your ideas, and to understand the ideas of others.
What will make you happiest here:
- You’ve partnered with a multi-functional team, or developed on a platform other than iOS.
- You are comfortable driving Git from the terminal, and can comfortably rebase, squash, etc.
- You’ve worked inside of complex Xcode workspaces; multiple targets; app containers and extensions; static libraries; and swift packages.

If you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications we still encourage you to apply!

About Us
Overleaf is a scaleup and social enterprise that builds modern collaborative authoring tools for scientists — like Google Docs for Science. We make an online, real-time collaborative editor for papers, theses and other documents written in the LaTeX markup language.
We have over 11 million registered users from around the world, over 400,000 people use our platform each day and we host over 100 million user-created projects. Our company is growing and we are looking for Frontend Engineers to help improve our platform.
We’ve been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 fastest growing businesses and included in the FEBE Growth 100 list. We were Best SaaS for Nonprofits or Education in the 2020 SaaS Awards Program, and a finalist in the Digital Leaders Impact Awards 2022. We’re part of the Digital Science family of science, health and ed-tech companies.
Our Tech
Overleaf is based on open-source software, and most of our product code is open-source. You can find it on GitHub: https://github.com/overleaf/overleaf
On the front end, we mainly use React. On the backend, we run a microservices architecture, mainly in Node.js using MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Redis, running on Google Kubernetes Engine.
Your New Role
We are looking to hire a frontend engineer to help improve our platform. This is a complex web app that allows users to edit their scientific documents in collaboration with others, in real-time.
We are working on projects that include improved collaboration features for teams, and improvements to our rich text editor to help non-LaTeX users get started with our platform.
There will be opportunities to work on the backend, so both frontend and full-stack engineers are welcome to apply. (We also have openings for backend engineers.)
As part of the engineering team at Overleaf, you will be helping to make Overleaf the go-to place for scientific writing.
How We Work
Overleaf is remote-first — all staff work remotely, and this is part of our values. We also have an office space in London for those that want to use it, and we get the whole team together a few times a year (usually in the UK) for face-to-face time.
Our core hours for meetings are 2pm–5pm UK time; we try to schedule all team meetings during this time, including daily 10–15 minute standup calls and biweekly company update calls.
We always collect user feedback to inform our work. We have UX professionals on our team, and we run many surveys and user interviews. Our engineers work closely with the product team in product trios (PM, engineer, UX) during both discovery and delivery of new features.
Our development process is based on the “Shape Up” model, using 6-week delivery cycles and a 4-week cooldown between them. In each cycle, we have multiple delivery tracks, each with its own tech lead. Engineers move between delivery teams each cycle. We practice code review, invest in automated testing and are big fans of linting.
How We Hire
The stages in our hiring process are typically:
- We will aim to update you on the status of your application within 5 working days from when we receive it.
- We’ll schedule a 30-minute call for a discussion with our Engineering Director to discuss the role and your experience, to see if they look like a good fit.
- We’ll schedule a more in-depth interview, which is typically two hours long. The first hour is discussion, and the second hour is based on a short homework assignment (max 2h outside of interview) or an exercise during the interview if you prefer. The problems are practical in nature - no fizzbuzz, sorting linked lists or code golf.
- We’ll make an offer. We usually interview in batches, so there may be a short delay while we interview other candidates, but we will keep you informed throughout the process.
If you have a deadline, please let us know in your application, and we will try to be accommodating.
Requirements
To do this job well you’ll need to:
- Have 2–3 years of experience working on frontend code in JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Experience with the technologies we use (like React) helps, but you don’t need to know them all; your ability to learn is much more important to us.
- Be based in the US, Canada, the UK or Europe (EU member state)
- Usually be available in our core hours, 2pm–5pm UK time
Benefits
- Remote and flexible working.
- Salary up to £75k per year, depending on experience.
- You would join a small, dedicated and growing team.
- We’re substantially (around 80%) open-source, so your work will often be on open-source code.
- We organize company and team meetups several times a year for valuable face-to-face time.
- We’ll provide a new Mac, PC or Linux laptop, along with a stipend for other equipment.
- We provide a training budget and allocate time for training; many of our developers choose to attend relevant industry conferences or buy training materials.
- We run regular remote hackathons to keep learning and experimenting.
- We run a weekly internal seminar series with short talks from staff about their work or personal projects, new technologies and techniques.
- Additional benefits package varies by country. Please ask us.
We’re an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status. Underrepresented groups often do not apply and we encourage them even if they do not meet all the requirements.
Our Story
Today, from the moment you connect to the internet, most websites focus on learning everything they can about you. In Web 3, the moment you share an Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, or Tezos wallet address with anyone, you expose your entire on-chain transaction history to the world.
To us, this is crazy. We should have complete agency and control over what stories we share and how we share them. We believe the same should be true on the internet. This is why we are stewarding the development of Tari, a default-private digital asset protocol.
Tari is unique with a highly intentional design. Our mission is to make it easy for developers to create and deploy Web 3 interoperable applications that are highly scalable and secure without spending months on audits.
In addition to stewarding the development of this new protocol, we are building the first application that will use it. This app is Yat, a new censorship-resistant internet identity system that enables everyone to use a personalized string of emojis as their universal username.
Why emojis? Over 90% of online users on Earth use emojis every single day. They are genuinely our global language. We use them to tell stories and connect with others in a beautifully simple way. Yats create a system that allows people to own a single emoji or string of emojis that best represents them. Yats are owned by whoever creates them and are an internet freedom product. Imagine a world where we all own self-sovereign emoji identities that are self-directed, deeply censorship-resistant, and cannot be canceled.
What if instead of johnsmith535, someone could be 🔥🐉 or 👑 🎳(kingpin) or 🦄🤖💃? They could use this unique emoji username to do the same things they could do with a standard username, like sending or receiving money, chatting with friends, or creating a website. This would change how we connect. Instead of one-dimensional email addresses, usernames, or phone numbers that say nothing about us, we could express ourselves in truly remarkable ways. The possibilities are endless.
At Yat Labs, we are building an incredibly talented and dedicated team to make Yat the preferred form of self-sovereign identity for everyone on Earth.
Yat and Tari are the brainchildren of Tari Labs; the fast-growing startup focused on building privacy and pervasive privacy technologies for everyone on Earth. They were both co-founded by Naveen Jain (who also founded Sparkart). They are backed by Blockchain Capital, Pantera Capital, Multicoin Capital, Trinity Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Canaan Partners, Slow Ventures, and many more of the best investors in the world.
This role is 100% remote.
About You
- You’re a highly talented Typescript/NodeJs/fullstack engineer and are looking for something different: Perhaps you’ve just exited your previous startup and are looking for the next big thing. OR maybe you’ve worked at a Fortune 500 tech company and are looking to bring your skills to a smaller organization where your skills and experience can really move the dial.
- You like getting your hands dirty with database work and neither Postgres nor Redis make you sweat.
- You have worked on highly scalable, high-performance software platforms, such as crypto exchanges, content delivery networks, ad delivery networks, instant messaging, MMORPGs, or similar low-latency, high-data throughput, and concurrency-focused environments.
- You have an incredible pedigree in delivering succinct, high-performance code.
- You should be comfortable and highly experienced in participating in development, code reviews, producing unit tests, helping with test automation frameworks, and understanding modern continuous deployment concepts and technology.
- You love the startup environment’s nimbleness and can handle the pace and change that comes with it.
- You can provide good time estimates and can deliver high-quality work on time.
What You’ll Do
- Build pixel-perfect, fluid, and delightful UIs across the web and mobile interfaces.
- Carry out code reviews.
- Build reusable components and front-end libraries for future use.
- Translate designs and wireframes into high-quality code.
- Optimize components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers.
- Maintain code and write automated tests to ensure the product is of the highest quality.
Requirements:
- 6+ years building highly performant, rich websites - please share your portfolio with us.
- 4+ years experience with React.js, Redux and Webpack.
- Knowledge of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proficient with git / GitHub.
- Organized, able to be self-managed, and able to collaborate across teams spread over multiple time zones.
- You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take design and wireframes provided by the UX team and author professional and maintainable code that follows best practices.
- But honestly, your portfolio is what counts.
Benefits
- 100% Globally Remote
- Highly competitive compensation package
- Flexible work schedule and paid time to create your work/life harmony
- An international team of highly talented and engaged people from different cultural backgrounds and locations.
- The latest technology and equipment to do your best work from your home office
- Be an OG in a young project that is already making 🌊

- We’ll make an offer. We usually interview in batches, so there may be a short delay while we interview other candidates, but we will keep you informed throughout the process.
If you have a deadline, please let us know in your application, and we will try to be accommodating.
Requirements
To do this job well you’ll need to:
- Have 2–3 years of experience working as a backend or full-stack engineer
- Experience with the technologies we use (like node.js) helps, but you don’t need to know them all; your ability to learn is much more important to us.
- Be based in the US, Canada, the UK or Europe (EU member state)
- Usually be available in our core hours, 2pm–5pm UK time
- Remote and flexible working.
