We’re currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer for our Source Code BE team. The Source Code BE team is focused on GitLab’s suite of tools around Source Code Management. We interface with the Gitaly and Code Review teams and work closely with the Source Code Frontend team.

The Source Code team is focused on building and supporting all use cases related to interacting with the code stored in each project repository. Whether it’s a quick consultation of a commit or deep analysis of the history of changes to any given file, our team is tasked with building and supporting features that enable a great experience.

Source Code is one of the oldest and most complex parts of the GitLab application. We provide the interface layer, via Gitaly, to the Git repositories. A large portion of GitLab traffic, whether on gitlab.com or in private instances, is transported by Source Code endpoints, and we are focused on providing high reliability through performance tuning, SQL tuning, caching and rate limiting.

Upcoming feature work for the Source Code team includes Git LFS, protected branches, approval rules, and CODEOWNERS.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and mitigate performance issues.
• Help with maintaining GitLab Technical Docs.
• Ensure we deliver on our commitments to the market by communicating clearly with stakeholders.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. We use an adapted version of Basecamp's Shape Up approach, which for us means:

• We work in cycles of 5 weeks of focused work and 1 week of cool down.

Our web application is a single-instance, multi-tenant Ruby on Rails monolith supported by Postgres (database), Redis (background jobs), and memcached (Rails caching). Compensation and Benefits

Our anticipated compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets, and the range below indicates the low end of the lowest-compensated market to the high end of the highest-compensated market. The Role

Bitly is looking for a Back End Engineer III to develop, improve and expand the services that power all of our products. You will be focused primarily on building the back end for a new customizable dashboard that provides users with access to in-depth reporting on their Bitly product performance data. This tool will allow users to focus on which insights are most important to them and share their discoveries with their colleagues. These new features will be the key to discovering cross-product connections. This position has high visibility and impact across the organization.

You will work closely with the engineering and product teams aligned within Growth. Your team will most likely be named after an animal. Our teams work primarily in React, TypeScript, and Go. You will report to and collaborate with the Director of Engineering, Growth.

What You’ll Do

• Create, manage, and improve back end services that accurately and efficiently provide clients with the data they need with a variety of tools and languages including, Go, NSQ, MySQL, Memcached and more.
• Draw from previous engineering at-scale experience to influence and steer improvements within our distributed engineering organization.
