Your role:

As an Engineering Manager you are an accomplished engineer, having led successful projects as a Senior Engineer or Engineering Lead before directly managing teams of four or more engineers. You are fully comfortable with agile management practices, and proven project managers who have delivered many large projects successfully. As a technical leader you are constantly tracking the team’s efficiency and quality of deliverables at SDLC and regularly adjusting processes and timelines to ensure high quality is delivered. You take responsibility for producing software that is highly available, monitorable, and maintainable over time.

While in this role, you will spend less time writing code, but there is an expectation that you still engage in some technical deliverables such as bug fixes and small features, without blocking or slowing down the progress of your team. In this role your success will be determined by the success of your team. In particular, as a leader you are capable of identifying the most high-value projects and keeping your team focused on these projects. As part of keeping the team focused you will partner closely with Product to manage project scope and ensure the technical deliverables are met. In addition to focusing the team, you are capable of identifying headcount needs for the team and planning and recruiting to fill these needs.

As an Engineering Manager you operate as and are comfortable managing team members with different skill sets from your own. You communicate expectations clearly to all team members, solicit and deliver inidual feedback frequently (not just in the scope of review periods). In addition to strong management skills, as the engineering lead you acts as a leader for the technical roadmap for the pillar. You are able to clearly communicate the timeline, scope and risks to your pillar partners, and lead the delivery of major initiatives on clear timelines. Additionally, you identify areas of strategic technical debt, do the cost/benefit analysis for resolving this debt and communicate suggested timelines for prioritizing this to the management team.

Cody is an AI coding assistant that lives in your editor that can find, explain, and write code. Cody uses LLMs and the Sourcegraph search engine and code graph, providing answers that eliminate toil and keep human programmers in flow. You can think of Cody as your programmer buddy who has read through all the code on GitHub, all the questions on StackOverflow, and all your organization’s private code, and is always there to answer questions you might have or suggest ways of doing something based on prior knowledge.

The Cody Strategic team is aimed at turning the largest, most world-recognizable brands into Cody Champions. We do this by partnering with a small number of highly engaged strategic customers to build product functionality that enables these customers to successfully deploy the most-loved coding assistant, but at massive scale. You will work closely with the ML Infrastructure team, all the Cody teams across Cody’s e2e service stack, and teams across Sourcegraph to bring the best-of-class coding assistant to your favorite big brands. The Strat team focuses on one or two projects at a time, delivers and scales them, and then works to hand them off to the other Cody teams so that it just becomes part of how Cody is operated. About you

You are a full-stack software engineer with at least 2 years of industry experience, equally comfortable with frontend and backend work as needed, with the ability to pick up frameworks quickly and deliver high-quality work. Ideally, you have worked directly with enterprise customers as a SaaS developer. Or perhaps you have worked with internal customers on large cross-functional projects. You should enjoy cross-functional, cross-company collaboration, since that is the bread and butter of the Cody Strat team.

Our Strat customers are typically deployed with complex legacy configurations, and we often need to build bridges into those systems. Much of the Strat work is becoming ML-oriented in nature, as our investment in Cody AI increases and our Strat customers become early adopters. LLMs and their ecosystem are at the core of Cody’s architecture, so you ideally have prior experience working with LLM-based applications, and should be seeking to increase your knowledge of AI/ML as the space quickly evolves.

Requirements:

• Comfortable with developing and deploying software and services on at least one major Cloud provider, with preference for experience with GCP, as most of your Cloud work will be on GCP.
• Comfortable with at least the basics of Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, and systems programming
• Experience with Go (minimum) and in an ideal world, TypeScript, Java, and various scripting languages
• You have used Cody and understand Cody’s current architecture, and you have your own opinions about the directions it could and should go next.

• Postgres. If you have very deep Postgres experience, you may be in luck.
• Node.js. Cody’s cross-client logic is largely in Node.js, and being able to contribute there is helpful.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

You’ll join our web application team and after an initial familiarization process you’ll likely find yourself leading a product-focused project in an upcoming cycle – perhaps bringing to life our project reports with improved charts and visualizations, or adding delight to every interaction of our onboarding experience. What You’ll Need To Be Successful

We’re looking for a strong, seasoned engineer with at least six years experience in leading and shipping successful and demanding projects to a global audience, working as part of a small focused team to deliver objectives, being comfortable managing your time and communicating clearly with other members of the team.

You’ll be excited and eager to work on a sophisticated web application and solve data and presentation problems in a performant manner for our world-wide user-base. You’ll understand the commitment that requires but also the fascinating challenges it can present.

You’d be described by your colleagues as a React expert and are completely comfortable working in an application written with React combined with Redux and Reselect for the state management aspects.

You have a passion for usability and able to account for the needs and ergonomics of both the end users of our interfaces, and the developers that will build them.

With respect to styling, we favor a CSS-in-JS approach that does not rely heavily on utility classes—no Tailwind here!

Alma is seeking a mission-driven Frontend Engineer to join one of our newest teams, Support/Internal Tools. We are dedicated to building tools and services which help our providers more easily manage and grow their practice. In this role, you will be building features that solve real problems for mental health providers. The ideal candidate is able to recognize that successful software development requires communication, experimentation, and iteration.

The Support / Internal Tools squad will introduce tools and resources that decrease providers’ (and ultimately, clients’) reliance on the CX team, and allows for providers and clients to more easily answer questions, or solve problems without the support of an Ops member. We're a small, rapidly growing software agency looking to add another senior-level software developer to our team to help balance our workloads.

About us (the good and the bad

• We're a team of 3.5, so pretty small.
• We're all developers here, so we understand that estimates aren't always accurate, software takes time, and sometimes things take more time than initially expected - all par for the course.
• We're a services company, so there's a wide variety of different things you'd be working on, and there are often changes in priorities from week-to-week and month-to-month.
• We do a mix of ground-up development for startups (creating new web apps from scratch), automation work, and work on existing codebases.
• A lot of our work is MVP & product-focused, meaning we often value shipping small, functional, but imperfect pieces of functionality rather than highly-scalable subsystems.
